Tell me the truth-I can take it!

My last name isn't Bush, so I am clueless about my chances for getting in. I'm applying Early Action, and I have my interview next week. Can anyone shore up my confidence, or let me down gently?

From Utah
Parents graduated from Yale Graduate School
Small, rigorous private school

Grades: unweighted GPA- 4.0, 7 AP classes in 2 years, my school doesn't rank, but top around top 2%

Scores: SAT- 700M, 800V, ACT- 35 Writing, 30 Science, 35 Reading, 32 Math, 33 Cumulative

Extras: cellist, private lessons 8 years, 2nd chair in Utah Youth Symphony; Editor of school newspaper, winner of Best High School Newspaper Story in Utah 2 years; lead in school musical 2002, 2004; co-officer of NHS; went to Take the Lead!, a competitive girls' leadership program at Mount Holyoke, created a successful project for this program (teaching music to underprivilaged children)...Extremely passionate about all my activities, and I tried very hard to convey that in my essays.

Recommendations: My teachers and counselor know me well, and I hope they will convey this in their letters. A family friend/Yale graduate (who was active in the Yale Association) also offered to write me a letter.

I know that it takes something striking to get in, but does hard work and dedication count for anything?

I think you have a good shot. I would just apply to all the Ivies and with your stats, I am sure you'll get into one or two of them. By the way, what is the average SAT score for Yale students? Is it around a 1450? What are the average SAT II scores do you think?

Hey Chuck,
Yale reports their "middle fifty percent" scores rather than the averages. They are between 1390 and 1550. As for SAT IIs, I have no idea. Are you applying too? If so, good luck, and thanks for the positive feedback!

bump bump bump

what does bump mean? I know it's probably a stupid question but I see it all over the place here and I have no idea what it means!

bump=bring up my thread

when you want your thread to be "bumped" to the top!

to be clever, people use such variations as "bumpity bump" "bumpus" and "bumparama"

or theyll add a post of utter randomness,
i had chicken for dinner
or See ya at Moe's

i dotn think bump is that complex as in bring up my thread, I think its just bumping it to the top of the forum.

Whoops I meant "post," bring up my post. otherwise it would be bunt

bunt... yummm... i like bunt cakes

I believe that's spelled bundt. I sense another dessert thread takeover...

My mom makes the best chocolate chip bundt cake ever.

ha, so i cant spell, so sue me. lol
yes,,... dessert thread takeover!!!
im going to get that printed on a T-shirt.
if we go to Yale together and you are teaching me guitar and we are learning piano, can i go to your house one day and eat some chocolate chip bunDt cake? you can come to my house for my great grandmothers famous yumm yumm pudding.

...What kind of pudding?

My dad makes the best white chocolate bread pudding ever.

its called yumm yumm pudding, its... um... its, creamy colored, and tastes kind of like vanilla, its not thick and its kind of fluffy, its sweet and... hm. its yummy!
white chocolate bread pudding... sounds awesome

I check in here, thinking that someone will have commented on my chances...and I find you talking about desserts! That makes my day!

That sounds sooooo good--the name is apropos.

Paloma--sorry! I try not to comment on chances....because I know nothing about them and because everyone is just so darn impressive...but I'll do it just this once, for you:

You look really great! Yes yes dedication counts, have something striking! Teaching music to underprivileged children? That sounds incredible. What exactly were you teaching? How to read music? Sing? Play a recorder? Beatles appreciation? Whatever it was, it sounds awesome.

No, thats not what I was saying. I dont think bump is an acronym for Bring up my post....i think it just means like bump my post to the top of the forum.

Don't worry! I totally agree with you. How do high schoolers know who's gonna get in and who's not?
To answer your question, I teach violin once/week to elementary schoolers. It was/is awesome. So awesome, I wrote my essay about it.
Anyway, continue your convo, it's very entertaining. Best of luck to you both.

bebere and i turn so many posts into our own little conversations we should just create our own thread. lol and i agree with her on everything she said about your chances, i think you have an excellent shot but what do a bunch of high schoolers know anyway

Hmm freakish, it seems like too much of a freakish coincidence...

See the second one from the top: ;/a>

dad is taking a day off from work tomorrow, so I'm going to try to persuade him to make some white chocolate bread pudding with me. You know, father-daughter quality time. If we make some, I'll share it with the board. :p

HAHA victORIA we should!
