Telluride Association Summer Program ( TASP ) 2008

disneyguy:

That sucks, but in all honesty I wouldn’t freak out to much.

They sent the notification because TA is on your side (unlike your school’s guidance department apparently). If I were you, first thing tomorrow go to your counselor and see what is up. Then call TA while you are in his office meeting with him. I am sure if you talk them they will be understanding, and your counselor can answer/verify/assist with any questions TA might have.

Good Luck with this very-little hiccup!

hey, i applied to Tasp and found this thread. I was just wondering, are any of you TASP veterans? if so, did you think you would get into the program. I am really anxious and I hope I get in.

pumpernickel, I am no veteran, but TASP makes it pretty clear that continuance to the interview round is almost entirely based on your essays (grades, ECs, etc. are comparatively minor factors).

Last year’s TASP thread has a lot of useful information also.

I actually already emailed a different counselor, and it’s being taken care of. So yeah, I’m feeling a lot better.

TASP also knows that the transcript is on its way. I can breathe again…

And what happened to this thread’s livelihood? It suddenly died…

Damn that was fast.

:)

Glad that got taken care of.

yeah we just dont have the stamina of last year’s tasp.

and i totally just finished my 40 pages WHOOO! but never again.

hey, i’m online now, i’ll try to enfuse some “stamina” into this tread :). We were talking today in CWI about the World Trade Center. what do you guys feel about it being rebuilt?

hmm… looks like the “Stamina” infusion failed. is everyone asleep already?

just curious what is cwi?
and i feel like they can do it sure. but it would be awkward sort of. like do you make it exactly the same, different, what?
i feel like it wont do anything For american morale if that was the point, and it will not rid any of the pain people have to live with and all that.

I assume CWI stands for Current World Issues.

that is a rather bland and uninspired name for a class. but ok that makes sense.

From an American and “patriotic” perspective (What does the word patriot connote in this day and age? lol) it has to be rebuilt. IT would be considered defeat to not do so, not to mention it must be rebuilt on a large and grander scale then before.

I am glad that they are focusing so much energy on rebuilding, not just the towers, but also a monument and memorial for those who were lost on 9/11. I personally believe the most important thing is that what ever is rebuilt on the site of the wtc is a truly holistic structure and development. Meaning that it not only connects the past and the tragedy of 9/11, but also the future and an useable space effectively and respectively.

another question i thought of-- in english we’re studying pre-transcendentalist writers, and our teacher asked us this: what’s the difference between patriotism and nationalism? is there a difference? is it solely in the connotations?

And I’m interested to know what you guys think about universal health care. Nobody at school really understands the issue fully, and since a woman is advocating it, they have formed a vendetta against it.

My AP Gov teacher didn’t realize there could possibly be a distinction b/n socialized medicine and universal health care…so yeah, hopefully you guys can add more insight to the issue than my class does.

Er, the WTC had a design flaw that made them especially susceptible to an aerial based terrorist attack. Also, is anyone going to want to live or work there or is it going to be thousands upon thousands of square feet of museum.

What would look really, really cool would be if they made a smaller scale model out them out of glass, like that pyramid at the Louvre. A little ethereal, fragile like so much of human life and peace is.

Cafe, I’d say it’s definitely in the connotations. Patriotism comes from the latin word pater, father. It seems a little more about roots and traditions and the spirit of the country. Nationalism has always felt like an assertion of dominance. Not, “I love my country” but “America is the greatest nation in the history of the world.”

I’m against it. How about Tort reform first and see how far that gets us in the way of overpriced health care? Or what about federal medical practice insurance, so when doctors pay for their insurance, they’re paying for medicare/medicaid?

just dropping by.

i feel like the words are the two words are generally the same. people may preceive a difference but i dont. for me they are both a love for your country.

^ i think there is a difference which earilmadith states quite nicely

wow, is like no one on today?
btw, universal healthcare is completely inpractical. who’s gonna pay for it? you guessed it - middle class once again would get the shaft. when i pay income taxes i don’t want to be paying for another person’s health insurance, especially if they’re getting wasted every night at the local bar.

what if it is you gettin wasted at the bar?

Privatizing healthcare hasn’t been the most successful alternative…

i’m not that stupid. if i should ever have the idiocy to get wasted (god forbid), then i should take the consequence. if you get wasted, you should bear the cost, not some other working-class family. period.

agreed, private healthcare isn’t the best alternative, but i thought this was a capitalist country. socialist programs like social security were created during a time of emergency. we’re not in the Depression anymore. speaking of social security, since when has that been a prudent economic endeavor?

sorry if i sound blunt, but i don’t really like sugar-coating
