Sex can be loveless and love can be sexless. They’re two separate things that people automatically tie together, because they seem to make sense together, and usually that’s the way it works. But there are exceptions, and there is a lot of sex without love.

In today’s society, males are probably more encouraged to seek sex without love (i.e. bang hot chicks) while girls are more encouraged to “save” themselves for their true love…there is a double-standard, I agree.

I’d link the Wikipedia article, but there are a few half-risque pics. Basically a dominant female, who can employ things like riding crops, bondage, etc. (Use your imagination!) to assert her dominance over the man. The stereotype is the woman in fishnets and leather lingerie…

Sec: Well, then I think you and I will be friends if we meet at TASP, despite our differing opinions of the disgust level in porn.

D-Yu: My opinion is that porn is as equally degrading as every other form of popular media. Since I am not willing to boycott the movie theater (I love me some Saw), I have no choice but to accept the level of woman degradation in the American culture (if you’re not against something, then you’re for it by passivity). I believe that sexism is a solid fact of the human species that can be explained by evolution and can never be done away with, but that’s for another day. And I will remind you again that I’m a girl.

WolfBane2 I completely support you!
I am for the legalization of prostitution (when it is consensual).
The government should not be able to restrict what we do with our OWN bodies. Prostitution is generally associated with sexual enslavement, etc. but honestly when you think about it’s really just a service. Porn stars like Jenna Jameson are really admirable from an economic standpoint. They see a market, and they exploit it for profit. Simple as that.
I think putting restriction on porn is completely futile.
Porn is a medium of entertainment, whether you like it or not. If you do not like it simply don’t watch it, you shouldn’t punish other people for being interested in it.

Random: That’s the problem, though. You can’t completely legalize prostitution because in many cases, it will always be forced or through pimps. Then again, one could argue that pimping should also be legal if media agents are legal. Both media agents and pimps sell the services of the human body, through song/dance/entertainment or through sex. And you can never ban prostitution because it’s impossible to keep track of money transactions between everyone having sex.

So you treat it like alcohol. Make it legal in registered brothels, regulate the crap out of it and have a huge penalty/punishment for unregistered prostitution.

Earil: Sure, although we all know how well the regulations on alcohol work. It’s the legislative effort that counts. I myself am not particularly concerned about the legality or illegality of prostitution. It will happen regardless (after all, we all know how effectively Prohibition stopped the sale and drinking of liquor). What concerns me more is the fact that in many states, a 17-or-18-year-old can be jailed for having sex with his 16-year-old girlfriend.

And with that I leave you. Please, remember WolfBane2 as the person who started the porn and prostitution debate on the TASP thread.

Completely banning prostitution would be futile anyway…it would still happen. Better to place regulations on its practice and provide prostitutes with more legal protection of rights.

I’m almost officially sick (Feverish even! I never get fevers!) So I think I’m going to go have some cocoa and go to bed… It was a simply lovely debate, all.
