This is kind of off-topic, but did you ever get a chance to encounter Shakey Jake in Ann Arbor before he passed away? :(

who is that?

!!!
Only the iconic image of Ann Arbor… ![]()
Seriously, he’d been around forever. Almost everyone I know who goes to UMich or who has lived in Ann Arbor agrees that he was practically the manifest soul of the city.

what did he do. cuz i did a lot of stuff that i dont quite remember.lol.

To elaborate, he was basically this “homeless” guy who wandered around the streets of Ann Arbor strumming his guitar, always smiling, always willing to cheer you up. He was quite a character, actually. He’s the kind of guy you could just walk up to and love for being who he is and reminding the town of what life is really about… Almost everyone who really lives/experiences Ann Arbor is familiar with him. Anyway, I was just curious to see if you ever met him, because he was a pretty cool guy.

Panic, if you do decide to go to UMich next year, will you apply for the Telluride House? I only recently realized it existed…but it looks so amazing…like TASP, only four years longer :)

Those of you planning to apply to Cornell, what about you?

yeah if i apply to either school it would def be the telluride house. i loved the place, and nope encountered bums but never one with a guitar. sorry.

If I go to Cornell, I’ll definitely apply for the Tell house. All I know about it is that it is free. Is there anything else to it?

you have to show up to meeting. and organize like volunteer events. sort of earn your living, but it isnt like deep springs. it is self governed for the most part. and there is probably a whole lot but i dunno. i’d like to knw what the cornell house looks like though.

Is anyone else in the running for the NMS competition?

what was the florida cutoff?

Semi-finalist last year was something like 212 for Florida.
Your state must be “smarter”* than mine (209).

However much you can put stock in the PSAT definition of intelligence

I’m pretty sure I’ll make it to semi-finalist (I got a 219) unless Great Lake water has been recently purified with some “genius” molecule that everyone has been taking in for the past year… Anyway, I don’t want to sound cocky and speculate.

I am by like, 1 point. We hardly know now, though, considering 50,000 students get “commended”.

o well then i havent a chance in this decade.lol. i got a 198. that is low for CC i know. ill go cry in a corner now. lmao.

Panic -
Commended (the step before semi) has a lower cut-off.
I could only find statistics for California; their cut-off for commended was 200 or something, so you could assume most other states would be lower…
