Telluride Association Summer Program ( TASP ) 2008

TEN MINUTES?
That’s awesome. I have to practically fight tooth and nail against the masses(I go to a school of about 2,750 kids) to make it to my next class with the five minutes I’m provided.

Ten minutes is pretty ridiculous. Four is looking even shabbier now! I have to get from room 206 to the cafeteria, get my lunch (A pretzel and milk, since I don’t have time to actually eat anything) and get to room 165 in such a tiny amount of time… Definitely not enough.

You need ten minutes when you have three high schools. The two furthest academic buildings on campus are .25 miles apart, and we need all the time we can get when fighting the hordes of thousands of kids…

A pretzel and milk?! Oh, that won’t do at all Earil. I hope you eat more than that over the course of the school day.

yeah five minutes is not enough. and at my height i almost always get crushed. the fact that i have a humongous tote bag doesnt help either.

I don’t which would be worse if I’m rejected. In March I would feel really sad because I didn’t make it to the interview round. In May the other summer program I’m applying to would have already sent out placements so there’s a possibility that if I rejected that program for the possibility TASP and then got rejected for TASP I would end up with nothing to do during summer. =[ Eeek that would be scary.

Honestly, who here has the patience to wait until March? I know it’s not that long off. Still…

Well, I suppose we really don’t have a choice in the matter. Patient we shall have to be.

Shuffle brought up a good point. Did any of you guys apply to other summer programs? If so, which ones?

It definitely takes a good three of four minutes to walk from one end of my building to the other. If you have to go from gym to math, you’re going to be late a lot… Not much fun. I’m glad I have gym the last period of the day.

Nope! If I don’t get into TASP, I’m getting a job and learning to sew or knit or do something equally awesome. Probably honing my swing dancing skills, and hopefully learning to run. Something out of the ordinary for me. I want to grow.

panic -
I feel your pain. Even though you have joined the masses with tote bags (:p), I am probably one of the few girls left in this world who actually wears and backpack, and it is /huge/, as in, if I have back problems later in life, I will know why. It’s also very wide because I have so many binders and textbooks, so whenever I swing to the side, I have this fear of whacking somebody in the face…

I haven’t applied to any summer programs. I was nominated for Girls’ State, but was too lazy to actually fill out the application, and the deadline passed ages ago…I can’t really do anything that isn’t very cheap or free. I’m still looking into it.

Actually, the first free summer program I discovered was a couple of years ago…RSI. I thought about applying, until I actually paid a visit to the RSI thread and realized that I didn’t have a chance (no lab/research experience, no math skills, etc.)

Wink, that’s usually all I eat until I get home at around 2:30. If I get up early enough, I might have a cup of coffee for breakfast… If it makes you feel better, I eat my “lunch” at 10:40 in the morning. This is why I hate doing anything too strenuous in gym a good four whole periods later. The administration actually tried to tell all the people in my Chem class that we couldn’t get lunch between periods anymore, but pretty much none of us listen because we don’t like passing out in the middle of the school day from not having eaten anything in the seven hours we’re legally held captive there each day.

This is why I’m such an awful snacker when I get home. Junk food is the perfect second lunch.

No backpack or tote for me. Just an obnoxious green purse and my portfolio, also green, and kind of falling apart now. This is what I get for getting the pretty one instead of the sensible one. sigh

that’s why i got a tote. cuz my backpack was like knocking people out, i rather have the thick binder under control and under my arm. i applied for this internship but the time to decide whether i will go (if i get in) is before TASP notifications which bums me out.
all else fails i get a job i guess.

or volunteer again.

My lunch starts at 11:26…we’re luckier than those in the earlier lunch period (10:29!) but I can’t bring myself to eat cafeteria food. I usually make lunch at home. Breakfast usually consists of half a grapefruit and a pop-tart, or, if I’m feeling healthy (and if we have 1/2% milk –> can’t stand 2% or homo) I’ll eat Cheerios or Shreddies…
Some teachers allow us to eat in class…others are fascists about the rules.

Where did you volunteer before panic?

crickets chirp
I guess I check in again later??

I’m kind of around, but since they seem to have disappeared, so I think I’ll go get clean.

AGH! I was having a phone chat with my bro.
I guess I’ll go do whatever it is I’m supposed to do as well.

at a children’s hospital. sorry i was actually filling out a summer program thing at the moment.
and im with hudson i have no idea when my classes are, i just sorta wait for the bell, and cafeteria food is the devil.

i applied for the oxbridge summer program scholarship, which I didn’t get, but wasn’t suprised about. It’s partially based on financial need, and I fall in to that middle class group of people who aren’t very well-off but aren’t poor, and whose parents refuse to pay $8,000 for a summer program…but yeah. My application essay and everything turned out really well, but I think that the fact that only like 3% of people get the scholarship and I didn’t have enough financial need blew that one for me. The worst part though is that I think that my TASP application was pretty sucky so I’m 99% sure I won’t be admitted.
I think I’ll just get a job, do some volunteer work at the local historical society, take art classes, and just hang out. There’s a music festival nearby that I realllllly wanted to go to (radiohead+jack johnson+others), which I wouldn’t be able to do if I was at a summer program, so that’s my comfort. haha.

My TASP application wasn’t that great either, alamode. I don’t like thinking about it.

There is never much going on where I live…I might get a job at Tim Hortons or something and get fat eating donuts. Ugh…I don’t even like donuts. Or I could volunteer at the library and hospital, which I have also done for the past two summers…
