Telluride Association Summer Program ( TASP ) 2008

Aww, you all disappeared?

Yay! Panic didn’t leave me!

I’m back…

And Donny! I was wondering when you’d show up again.

Anything interesting to discuss? Don’t worry Donny, I won’t ask you which president you’d sleep with.

lol nice that would be interesting

what you doing hudson.

Have we all disappeared?

nooo
10char

Apologies! Temporarily kicked off the computer by my slave overlords.
Nothing going on. Just listen to some music. Matt and Kim to be exact.
Bad lead singer, but it will always make you want to dance. I listened to nothing but Matt & Kim when I wrote my essays, which, due to the dance effect, I feel was detrimental to my writing overall. :P

Hmm… What is your favorite food, Panic?

random but id have to say black rice ( obviously it doesnt start out black) and chicken. and this fried plantains thing.

Hmm… Warm, dense chocolate cake and this really good grilled chicken my cousin makes. Probably also pizza, with sweet sauce.

Can I be lame and say PB&J?

it is not lame it is hudson. im just highly attached to my mother’s cooking.

What kind of jelly, Donny?

and what type of peanut butter?

If I’m allowed to be slightly cocky, I can honestly say that I’ve raised the creation of a PB&J sandwich to a science/art. (:
I have baking times, jam to peanut butter ratios, and various cutting styles memorized by heart.
No two PB&J sandwiches are the same; each is unique in it’s defining aspects.
This is not a joke.

NO JELLY! This is a rookie mistake. Jelly is too much like Jell-o, meaning spreading it is too much work and it warps the bread, making one side of your sandwich weak and the other, the one with peanut butter on it, normal. This lack of symmetry between the bread slices produces an unsatisfying PB&J sandwich.
You’re better off with Jam. All the taste of Jelly(actually, it’s a bit sweeter), but none of the hassle of tough spreading. As for the brand of Jam, I’m more partial to Smucker’s Concord Grape Jam.

I enjoy both styles of peanut butter(crunchy and smooth) as well as the intermediary of the two, organic peanut butter. If you have never tried organic peanut butter, you’re really missing out. It has the consistency of smooth peanut butter but it maintains the small grains of peanut present in the crunchy style.

I love that my longest post ever was on the science/art of PB&J sandwiches.

High five. Do you have an all-time favorite, general preferences, just want to expound on your experiments…?

Ah… When I make my sandwiches (This is probably blasphemy to your ears and eyes, and I apologize if you have to gouge them out after learning what I do to my poor sandwiches) I use smooth peanut butter, a light coat on both sides, and raspberry jam, well mixed before spreading. I cut diagonally, and by just compressing the sandwich with a butter knife to give it a really nice, clean edge. The double PB-ing gives it longevity for packing purposes. I also like strawberry, and can’t stand grape. Too sweet.

omg i can imagine you have statistics on this…

My m.o. is to slightly toast two pieces of wheat bread, which can be switched for other types of bread, but I’m partial to the wheat, in my mini toaster oven for about a minute. After that, you whip the peanut butter up a little bit with the knife to make it more spreadably. After which the Jam can be added either on top of the PB or on the other empty slice of bread. Recently, I’ve been experimenting with putting the Jam on the PB, and i like the new effect.
Cutting is entirely up to how i feel at the moment. If I’m in a hurry, which is 92.76% of the time, no cutting, but if i want to eat a leisurely lunch, I just have fun with it.

TMI?

Live and let live. Right, Cira? I don’t dwell into the realm of non grape jams, that, I feel, changes the fundamental form of the PB&J sandwich. Kinda like playing baseball with a tennis ball; technically, you’re playing the game, just…really weird.
