Telluride Association Summer Program ( TASP ) 2008

lol karajanhra
where did you dig that number (2.8x10^-35 chance) from? random?

I put a lot of 0s and a 2 and an 8.

I get what illuminar’s saying. I know that decisions won’t come 'til April 30th, and yet I can’t stop looking at this gddmn thread.

i had my interview in princeton today, with a past factota who flew in from michigan and two tasp alumni who were currently attending princeton. they were so smart. it was over an hour and super intense, and i was terrified. i hadn’t prepared at all.

me: blah blah blah
interviewer #1: but what about this?
me: blah blah
interviewer #2: and this?
me: uh…
interviewer #3: there’s another hole in your logic here
me: head explodes

and repeat until the end of the interview.

so yeah. i’m fairly sure i didn’t make it. less competition for the rest of you. :)

oh xphage … so sorry (yeah I hate to say that too) :frowning:
I’ll have mine in 8 hours :/

this’ll be over in 5 hours

Ennneige

I guess your interview is in a few hours now. DONT WORRY. Jay is one of the most friendly approachable guys ever. He is the Chair for TASS and all of us met him last summer. Yes he is a guy. Have fun and good luck, I am sure you will do great!

xphage:

Wow, your interview sounds pretty intense. However, that isnt necessarily a bad interview. Obviously I wasnt there, but the whole point is for them to break your argument down, pose opposing arguments and exploit weaknesses in your essays. Also dont worry if you have changed your views or go off from your essays. While the essays are your written work and it is your job to defend and represent the arguments made in them. The essays just truly serve as conversation starters. While your interview may have not seemed like a conversation at times, lol. The essays really just framed one of the most intense yet rewarding conversations you will ever have.

All of your interviewers were in the same place a few years before and I am sure you did fine!

If I were you I would go pick up another hobby between now and the 31st, lol. What a long month.

Thanks Giantredlobster. He just called me to delay the interview for 2 more hours. That’s fine but my right-eye contact just evaporated, leaving me in a half-blurry vision now lol

AW. GOOD LUCK EVERYONE! (:

i don’t know… i really don’t know what my interviewers thought of me. they nodded a lot and laughed a few times, but i felt like i sounded REALLY stupid.

one of my “broke-out-in-a-sweat” moments:

interviewer: should ?
me: thinks YES b/c lalalalalalalalala (i rambled - eeek!)
interviewer: but
?
me: oh… uhhh. NO, THEY SHOULDN’T b/c lalalalala.
me: (ohcrap) i just contradicted myself, didn’t i?
interviewer: yeah…

and then, i think i had a breakdown at one point.
i was like “omgomgomg. that’s… difficult.”
and then, they asked me a question about the count of monte cristo.
i couldn’t remember mercedes’ son’s name!!! i was like “was it arnold? aaron? I KNOW IT STARTED WITH AN AAA!” then when i got into the car, I was like “ALBEEEERT!!! NOOO!” i can’t believe i forgot…

even though i felt like i fumbled a lot, my interviewers were really really nice! i wouldn’t mind talking to them again… i felt A LOT more at ease than i’d expected to… i just hope that they didn’t think of me as a complete illiterate dunce… ><

Uh-oh…maybe I should go prepare for mine hahah these all sound so intesne! ; ) I haven’t read some of the books on my list for a WHILE. And are we all supposed to know about the count of monte cristo? 'cause I haven’t read that. I am now fervently hoping that that was on your book list heheh :D

Mine was like JJUYA’s except I stuttered a lot (as usual). Jay was really nice but I think he thinks that i’m a little pompous (may be my way of talking makes people think like that). We talked about The tale of 2 cities cos I didn’t read it for school, and I think my memory was much worse than JJUYA’s lol.
Oh we also talked about politics and stuff on my essay.
He was very attentive trying to figure out what I was saying haha and yeah, it was fun whether I make it or not.
Good luck to all of you who haven’t been interviewed yet
I’m gonna purge all the thinking of TASP out of my head :D

In exactly 1 month, we will know whether we managed to jump aboard or just got our hearts recklessly trampled and thrown to the side by the great thundering behemoth that is TASP.

Isn’t April going to be FUN?

Definitely. Ugh, I want to find out now, but I’ve been in such a black mood lately that I don’t think I’d react well to a rejection if it came now.

Have you had your interview yet, lunar?

(sigh) My problem is (anti-jinx voodoo) that I THINK I did well in my interview, but I’m always wrong about when I think I’ve done well on something. Always. So although I say to myself, “You’ll be rejected, you’ve already been rejected, you’re always rejected,” I can’t SUBCONSCIOUSLY convince myself. Therefore I am doomed to haunt this thread for another month and then on April 30th have a 50-50-90 shot of slinking around the forum whimpering with my tail between my legs.

*50-50-90 Rule: Whenever you have a 50% chance of getting something right, you have a 90% chance of getting something wrong.

Wow. 50-50-90 rule thing = story of my life!! I don’t think I’ve EVER gotten any MC question right after guessing from 2 choices. Well, okay, not NEVER, but it’s really a rare occasion.

Hey, are any of you kids Bay Area TASPplicants? I’m doing interviews this year, so stoked! :D

maybe you have giantred tako.
and that’s great.

ahh my interveiw is in less than 4 hours.

50-50-90, I hope that “rule” is nothing but fuss, although I got another pro argument today in the form of a history exam about the question of guilt in the first world war ._.
So somehow we have to figure out how we’re going to bridgeover the time until judgement day on april 31st

I had my interview yesterday, and it went swimmingly, if I say so myself. Even if I don’t get a coveted spot, it was still one of the better conversations I’ve had this year.

had my interview, it was short but so was my TASS one. didnt touch my booklist but we did hit my transcript. :frowning:
overall i was happy with it.
