Telluride Association Summer Program ( TASP ) 2008

Blasphemy! You must sell your soul and all your worldly possessions to satisfy the hungry TASP god! The AONHT (Association of Obsessive Neurotic High School Teens) commands it so!

Canwemoveon, we get our decisions by e-mail and then by mail, but you can call in on April 30th to find out before either of those.

“AONHT (Association of Obsessive Neurotic High School Teens)”
Sounds like a brief description of CC to me

Just had my interview like an hour ago. At first I thought it went well but then I got rambly and stumbled on a couple of questions… I probably ended up sounding like a racist. XD;;;; Unfortunately they kept dwelling upon my science fair project that I brought up in passing; it was a big failure, though, so I didn’t really know what to tell them. T_T

Right after it ended I had a generally good feeling, but as time progresses I’m gradually feeling more pessimistic. Meh. :(

Interview on the 13th!

Don’t know what to expect

“Right after it ended I had a generally good feeling, but as time progresses I’m gradually feeling more pessimistic. Meh”

That’s exactly how all the interviewed I talked to felt and I felt the same, but only the interviewer knows whether it was fine or “meh”

What do you really do at TASP?..From the website I don’t see why its such an exciting program other than its selectivity.

You go to seminar, you meet new people, you wander the town, possibly read a book, definitely do a project (not in that order, of course). The atmosphere is just amazing, it is hard to describe because it varies from person to person. Overall the website can be deceiving, unless they had like video words and sparse, minimized photos do not do TASP, nor would it for any program, justice.

Also how does selectivity relate to excitement? I’m honestly wondering.

I think it would be an incredible opportunity to study a topic that has an enormous impact on the developing world (Cornell II) under world class professors in an intimate environment surrounded by incredibly intelligent peers. The interaction between peers alone would probably justify my excitement towards the program.

What program did everyone apply for? I applied for Cornell II, which I feel got more applicants than others.

My order was

1) Cornell II
2) UT Austin
3) UMichigan
4) Cornell I

ive said it a few hundred pages ago but again:

Cornell 1
Cornell 2
UT Austin
UMich

Few people liked Cornell 1, which gives me a slight thread of confidence, but at the same time I wouldn’t expect too many CCer’s to really jump at it anyway.

my order was cornell ii, ut austin, cornell i, michigan. i had an incredibly hard time choosing the order because i absolutely could not decide between cornell i and texas, though i thought i would bring more to and get more from cornell ii than either. ultimately i ranked texas above the other cornell seminar on the grounds that i know nothing whatsoever about the caribbean and thought i would contribute more to texas.

my interview was a year ago today. :frowning: oh tasp nostalgia.
good luck taspplicants–you have no idea what you’re in for.

My oder was:
Cornell 2
Michigan
UT Austin
Cornell 1

Most of the people I know had cornell 2 as their first choice, does that mean it’s harder for an appliant with such orders or do they simply put you into your second or third choice. Summa summarum, do they make the decision with respect to the seminar choices?

I just chatted with a 2007 Tasper and she said they make the decision first and then decide about which seminar to put the student in
Now some other thing, what are your best rejection-depression medicines?
I’ll probably weep bitterly, well it’s childish ( still better than getting drunk though) but I’m serious…

Henn G, do you know whether they make the decision right after the interview or just before they decide what seminars (at the end of April?) I THINK I remember musechick (Aida) from last year saying that they rate the interviews on an A, B, C scale (A=almost guranteed, C=you’re out), but I can’t find her post for details and she didn’t respond to a PM.

Squee! We’re gonna know in 23 or 24 days!
Oh God, 23 or 24 MORE days. (face plant)

I’m not sure, the interviewer sends of the report and using all the information in it and your essays the taspcom makes the decision. I believe they make everybodies decision at the end of April, but I’m not sure. I’ve read about the A B C rating, but like you, I can’t find where I read it.

they have to write up the report, then they go over the reports as a whole and decide who stays and who goes. though i dont think they will decide to pick someone over you if your first choice was a popular one, i think they do consider the numbers when they choose a person.

^ i saved that a while ago when i was perusing interview tips fromm last years thread. i THINK that was musechick’s post… so credits to her if it is! :)

april 30th = asdlfadkjshfalkdh. i REALLY don’t know what to expect. if i (miraculously) make it… this is probably what i will look like.

haha. pre-interview result drawing:

Well, booted from RSI, so TASP’s the last straw for me… my confidence is pretty much nonexistent. I’m guessing I probably got a B on the interview?
