Telluride Association Summer Program ( TASP ) 2008

Starving Ethiopians? Who’s crazy enough to think about those people when there’s the SAT, TASP, AP Exams, etc. to think about?

I mean, honestly?

SAT Subject test > Near starvation, malnutrition, and death.

And gahhhhhhh, just looked at my status for QuestBridge. Not a lot of good news. I definitely didn’t receive the counseling thing. Also, I’m pretty sure I failed the Spanish test today, bringing my grade down to a solid B.

The beginning of a weekend of bad news? Ugh.

can somebody please tell me what QuestBridge is…??

If you’re a junior (which I assume you are), QuestBridge has a junior college prep scholarship. (College Prep Scholarship)

If you’re a senior, QuestBridge is a medium with which you can apply to top tier colleges. (National College Match)

The whole program is aimed to promote students from low income students.

[QuestBridge Home Page](http://questbridge.org/)

I am glad we have drawn a parallel between our own conditions and those of 3rd world children living in extreme poverty.

Reminds me of that John Stewart episode a few day a go. The C"rice"is American rice shortage leading Sams Club locations to limit rice sales to 4 bage per visit. Hilarious!

Monday is so soon, sort of scary. Seriously I know what people mean about May junior year… SATs next weekend, school work up the wazoo, and APs (which are way sooner than I thought, or would have liked). Oh yeah and TASP, XD

Hey there! I just found this thread and I’m a TASP applicant. My interview was early April. My interviewer didn’t say anything about being able to call in to find out results, though. How did you know that we could call in Monday?

We all have telekinetic powers. Don’t all TASPlicants?

Nah; some of us obsessive-compulsively read the TASP 2007 thread, found out about calling in on April 20th, e-mailed Ellen Baer, and found out it was April 28th this year.

Alright well that’s great! Only two more days until we find out. :frowning: I’m a little scared. The telekinetic powers would be fantastic though…

“A little scared.” (sigh) Oh, wyomingcowgirl; the stink of lurkerness emanates from you. You have not learned the squealy, squelchy combination of horror, nausea, hunger, stupid optimism, the unshakable belief that rejection won’t REALLY happen to them, and vertigo that only true TASP-thread veterans can understand. Read the thread, my friend-who-anyone-here-would-murder-for-a-slot; it will open your eyes. And your pants.

Just kidding about the pants. Total Anal Sex Party was last year’s thread.

I know it’s nerve wracking, but c’mon, too far.

What’ll you do if you don’t get in? It’s good to keep expectations grounded so that we don’t set ourselves up for disappointment

^ illuminar, I was joking when I said that every one here would murder her. I wasn’t joking about the combination of horror, nausea, hunger, optimism, and vertigo. I only added the necessary comment relating everything to sex. Aren’t I always? …OR AM I! (Invader Zim style spasm)

Ooh, ooh! I wanna help interrogate wyomingcowgirl! I promised the TASP gods I wouldn’t visit this thread tomorrow, so I’ve only got until midnight (10 CC time) here. Wyominggirl:

 1. What were your seminar rankings (preferences) and why did you pick the favorite one that you did?
 2. How do you think your interview went (what happened?)
 3. Why are you awesome, and what are you doing in my house?

Haha okay here goes:

 1. my first was the human rights in the global south one, my second was Africa, my third was the environment, and my fourth was the the Caribbean Dialogues one
 2. My interview went alright. It wasn’t good, it wasn’t bad, it was just alright. I don’t feel like my interviewer really liked me very much but she didn’t grill me. She just asked simple, straightfoward questions about my essays.
 3. I’m really not sure that I’m very awesome. I’m proud of myself for getting an interview but I’m certainly not awesome.

Does that work?

That works. Welcome to Purgatory - the week before TASP decisions. Does this make TASP Heaven? It is a distinct possibility.

Hmmm, does that make being rejected Hell?

Does anyone know how hard they strive to attain diversity at TASPs? Like, do they try and include people from every region of the United States?

…

Cowgirl, please. Please don’t. The last time someone talked about “diversity” on this thread, it resulted in 4.5 pages of rage, sarcasm, faux-Britishness, and downright not niceness from both parties. No, we’re not admissions committee members and we don’t know whether or not being from Wyoming will help you. We don’t know. Now drop it. Talk about something that isn’t in any way, shape, or form related to “diversity”. Like cows. There are cows everywhere. Even on the freeway.

My Physics teacher ran into a cow on the freeway once. We spent 20 minutes talking about it in class. That was a good day.

Was the car totaled?

Okay, okay, I’m sorry. The last thing I would want to cause is faux- Britishness.

There are a couple of cows like twenty feet away from me outisde the window right now. They’re just staring.

Tremulant: I think so. We were mostly interested in what happened when the car hit the cow. cough AS PHYSICS. cough

Cowgirl (by the way, my talking about cows had nothing to do with your name, but I just realized that it’s part of it. What a strange, silly, cow-filled world it is.): Maybe they’re actually metamorphic mole people spying on your mortal ways and judging you. (hiss) Judgiiiiiiiiiing. (cloud of smoke)

Oh my TASP gods, you guys. I just realized that tonight will be the last night that I sit with a minty taste in my mouth and post on this thread at 11:39 PM my time without knowing The Decision. We should make a list of Lasts before Monday (to be continued through Sunday for those who will be here).

1) The last time Karajanhra sits with a minty taste in her mouth while posting on this forum and not doing her physics project while thinking about Whose Line Is It Anyway.

Since they’re being raised for food, I sure hope they’re not TASP gods judging.

Well, my fine feathered friends, it seems I will not visit you again until Monday morning, so remember in my absence: Three blind mice. Three blind mice. See how they run. Into things.

I’m a little bit scared to ask, but what sort of music does everyone listen to? I’m into Swedish pop right now. If your interest is piqued–check out Jens Lekman. Oh You’re So Silent Jens is a good first Swedish pop album. It’s a lot better than american pop.
