memo to all austin facebook group members: i am the person whose profile picture is clearly not of her. be my friend and you’ll know how to i.d. me at the airport.

no I’ve left the group. I guess one is enough
merci

the advice from the UT Austin factota is pretty sound. i think all the seminars last year made groups before TASP started, which was good in getting us excited but in retrospect is unnecessary. factota tried to refrain us from digging around and getting information from one another to prevent us from making judgments about each other before we even got to ann arbor. it’s definitely something to think about, because you could very well read something/see something that rubs you the wrong way, and go into TASP sort of feeling like you won’t get along with x person.

just from experience, it makes it a more valuable experience when you go in not really knowing what to expect from your other TASPers. of course, i can understand if you guys want to know daily schedules/what to bring/what is there to do in the area, etc. i was wondering the same last year. if any of you michigan TASPers (and you guys are the best, don’t let anyone tell you otherwise ;)) have any questions, i can do my best to answer and post what i wrote for devon.

and again, congrats to everyone!

i guess posting the link on here helps :D

well, roamorse, that’s true.
which seminar were you in last year?

well, I just left the group. I guess I’m too excited about TASP

haha, michigan! speaking of which, i need to get tako on here.

While a lot of ppl seem to be excited about being accepted into this thing… can I ask what it this is…? i’ve heard of it, but what exactly is it, and whats the application like??

to illuminar:

soooo, ellen told you that we will have to wait until the end of may for confirmation?

blehhhh, does anyone know how many ppl usually decline their acceptance? o_o
*yes yes, i realize that the thought is quite absurd.

Deadaim and illuminar, remember: It could be worse. You could be down here with me. (waves up to them from Hell)

“I knew it would have to be like this. I hoped otherwise, but I knew.” - my Critical Analysis book (which will always now be tainted for me)

Well, as apparently the only rejected person that dares to show their face, I have cried quite a bit, anethestized myself with ice cream and a zombie movie, paced and yowled like a wounded animal, frantically looked for other summer options, and then finally decided that the healthiest thing to do is say, “Well f*** you too, TASP,” and get on with it. Have fun, you blessed, blessed people. I’ll be down here with the other 61 (excluding the other 10 that made it to the waitlist) people that the TASP gods hate. And illuminar and I sacrificed goats for you, you blighters.

karajanhra, I wouldn’t say sorry or whatever here cos it wouldn’t help anyway. But I’m glad that I get to know you on this thread!! THe fact that you are “only rejected person that dares to show their face” just makes you more special than other people! moreover, a person gets strength through failure (although I’d prefer to call this an experience)! You did get to the interview stage, meaning you are better than 600 and odds other brilliant people! And you are the one who commented most on this thread for “stalkers” like me to read lol. Well, you have college ahead, and maybe many other things that are more important. Good luck
and nice to know you :)

ahhh, no puedo dormir. x__x
can ANYONE answer my questions? por favor?

I got rejected too. :(

And Karajanhra, looking at your posts you seem like a thoroughly intelligent and balanced person. The fact that you were rejected too is the only thing consoling me right now.

i got rejected

Deadaim, there’s no way to know. You just have to hope that God doesn’t hate you quite so much as he hates the rejectees and the 4 other waitlisters of your gender.

Wyomingcowgirl, I base quite a bit of my life on the possibility of a zombie apocalypse. I’m not sure that’s “balanced”. Anyway, all of us rejectees are still fierce and fabulous, despite the fact that I’m skipping half of school today to mope and finish up my emergency applications to a couple other summer things. The facts of the matter are that yes, TASP is amazing and it’s horrible that we don’t get to go. However, TASP also rejected us personally, which means that we have the full rights to say, “F*** you TASP” and make the best of our summers out of sheer spite. Volunteer; look for a workshop; look for a job - just remember that your motivation isn’t just for college applications or to keep yourself from commiting suicide. Your darkest, most human motivation is to say, “F*** you TASP, I’m awesome and I d*** well deserved to be there and I’ll prove it.” Spite’s quite a good motivator. We’re all still alive, despite what we might wish, and we have to deal with being that way. And I have to stop procrastinating and go back to school in time for Physics.

henn g. and deadaim, sorry about my inbox. i cleared out some old messages so you can try pm-ing me again. although, it would be just easier if you pm me your email, so i can send you mine because i don’t check CC as often.

as far as the waitlist is concerned… the best thing you can probably do right now is to forget about it and find something else you can do over the summer that’s just as meaningful. while “there’s still hope!” is a nice thing to think about, there’s really no way of telling if you’ll be able to get off the waitlist so it’s better to keep your options open. that way, if you get in sometime in june, great! if you don’t, then you’ll have other things planned that you want to do.

rejects in da house

w00t w00t

I think I didn’t sell myself enough, like let them know how I really wanted to do it. I didn’t want to kiss up but I probably came off as indifferent.

Eh, sigh

I was waitlisted. If I stay on the list I guess I’ll just volunteer, might pop up on here though. still hopeful though

to the waitlistees: have you guys received an email yet?

roamorse: thanks for your response regarding the waitlistees. >.<

sooo, im guessing that the waitlistees will be unsure about even being able to participate in the program until around june?

i think telluride tells waitlistees for sure by mid may, june would be horribly unreasonable. whether we know if we could attend is another thing.
