Telluride Association Summer Program (TASP) 2011

5- unimportant. Mine was about 250 words and sucked as an essay, but it got the job done, and I was placed in my top choice seminar.
But it doesn’t have to be generic. I’ve seen some really great ones.

Do we need to cite sources for question 2?

^the essay 2 prompt specifies not to write a research paper so I’d advise against using/ citing sources except for the critical analysis (essay 1)

ahh less then two days! I think I’m done with the essays! pretty good for starting them day before yesterday… and now to revise =[ haha

omg. I got the application the day it came out, and I remember thinking I’d get it done right away and be on top of things. I have been rewriting EVERYTHING since 4 am.

@youwrotethis
I cited one book cuz all my facts was from that book and I honestly felt like if I didn’t have any information to back up my argument, it would have absolutely no credentials…
but that’s just because of the topic I wrote about…I can see in a lot other topics that you don’t have to cite sources in and is totally subjective

by research paper I think they just mean it can’t be an essay with a bunch of facts and no slant/opinion…
but I honestly have no idea, I risked it a little

this is probably a dumb question but is it suicidal (for my application) if I use The Great Gatsby for the 1st essay? I know it’s really generic/cliched, but it was the first book that I could think of, and I have a lot to say about it, it’s one of my favorite books. :/

So if the apps are due at 11:59 Pacific Time…that’s 2:59 Eastern, right?

The goal is definitely to have it in before then, but…

^3:00 AM Tuesday Morning/Monday Night just to be sure, right?

3 am on Tuesday, right.

rawr I’m probably worse in procrastination

0% first
30% second
60% third
60% fourth
0% fifth

the first one is some what holding up back…what did everyone else write about?

~2% first (currently trying to figure out what I want to say)
0% second
75% third
90% fourth
0% fifth
100% sixth

The first one is stressful for me precisely because literary analysis is my strong point - I feel like it’s my place to shine (I’m uncomfortable and unfamiliar with the more personal essays, and have spent the last week obsessing over them, with little to show for it), and I’m afraid of…not taking advantage of that.

For the essay ranking the 4 programs, what are most of your word counts, and how did you go about writing it?

The first one’s hard for me, I keep wanting to turn it into an AP English essay…

My word count for the seminar choice was just around 500 words. I kept essentially going “I like this one because…”. Not the most eloquent, but it works.

And, the application is for sure due by the end of Monday night, correct? It’s not that Monday’s the cutoff that you can’t turn anymore applications, but rather you can turn the application throughout the day on the 24th? I’m getting paranoid about missing the deadline because of miscomprehension :/

The general consensus seems to be Monday/Tuesday night, meaning you have all of Monday.

I think I’m done but I’m freaking hating my 2nd essay mwarghahh what I get for procrastination…

Okay, that’s GOOD, thank you for the extra confirmation :]

Procrastination bites… Any chance for you of fixing it by the deadline?

do we need to cite stuff in essay 1?

If you want to cite particular passages in your text, that might be helpful. Or it might just be a waste of space. Be judicious.

31 hours to go, guys. I can basically guarantee by now that my application will be turned in no sooner than 11:55 on Monday night.

I finally got 5 sorted out and now I’m freaking out about my 3rd essay… its a really long anecdote about middle school drama and I’m worried it’s silly and normal
gahhhhhhhhhhh
