Rejected haha. Oh well, I don’t regret having wrote those essays. I’m not shell-shocked but hopefully one of my backups work out. Congrats to everyone who moved on to the next round!

If anyone doesn’t mind sharing, I’d love to read your essays. Mine had a few typos and such but I’m happy with them - I’m sure everyone’s essays were great to some extent.

Hi everybody. I just had the pleasant surprise of finding out that I got a TASP interview, so I thought I’d finally make a college confidential account (something I’ve wanted to do for awhile) and find out more. Does anybody have an idea of what the interviewers will ask and what will be expected of me?

I’m really sad right now… I got rejected… Just like leahmarie I feel so stupid because I’ve put a lot of effort in my application… And many people just happened to send theirs and be accepted… Feeling reaaaaaally stupid right now…

Congratulations to every single person in CC that made to the final poll! I hope you all get accepted! You’re definitely brilliant!

Now it’s time to run for my backups… My weekend = JSA + Brown + Phillips Exeter Summer Applications… hahaha Just hope I can get to do something…

My condolences to those of you who were not offered interviews. It is a bummer, and you have every right to mope and feel sorry for yourself for about 24 hours.

Now, to those of you who got offered interviews…
While these are not “mean” interviews, they are substantive and thorough. I strongly suggest that you find people who will take the time to read your essays, and then grill you for 45-60 minutes. Doing as many as three practice interviews with different people would not be excessive. The likely topics are: things you wrote in your essays, and extensions of your positions; the books listed on your reading list; your thoughts about current events (not details, but they would like to see if you are cognizant of the broader world,) and other interesting aspects about you. Whoever practice interviews you–a teacher, perhaps a college professor, a lawyer, any well read adult, needs to be willing to push you a bit. It does not matter if the practice interview is more critical than then real TASP interview ends up being; it is better to be over-prepared than the opposite.

Again, it is not that the interview is likely to be a grilling/interrogation, but they want to see what you have got under the hood, intellectually speaking. You want to be confident, but not hidebound; thoughtful but not arrogant. In addition, do not forget that academics is only one of the three legs of the Telluride philosophy, with the others being self-governance and service. To the extent that you can legitimately show your interest in those as well, you will demonstrate your fit as a TASPer, rather than as just a bright kid who writes good essays.

To those who didn’t make it, especially those who put in the huge amount of time I did I’m really sorry, and completely understand your situation. But the key, though, is that you know that you put a lot into those essays, really pushed yourself, and reached a level of self-understanding that was new and refreshing. You also got great practice for your college essays! Remember, you are brilliant and amazing your sheer ability to push through and finish that app more than proves that *and this was after all a summer program; six weeks are not your life, even though it may seem like it right now. My two cents: get off this thread right now! Seriously, staying here will do little to help you move on. Good luck with whatever you do!

To those you got the interview *congrats! I really wasn’t expecting this, and had mentally prepared myself for rejection. I’m excited and overjoyed, but this isn’t it after all; there’s still another round…
