tests

do you guys think soldiers in all the armed forces should take a standardized test to determine relative rank. it sounds immoral but it was just a thought i was having

like what kind of test? SAT like?

well aptitude tests i guess…iq tests maybe…idn just something to gauge their potential/relative intelligence

Just curious… Do you know many people in the armed forces?

A test would do nothing. What determines your rank is doing your job, just like any other career.

yea 3 cousins in the marines. And all im doing is posing the question of how this could be used and could even possibly be used

How do you measure bravery, loyalty, tenacity, attrition, determination etc in the form of an IQ test?

no. the army is a career where rank has to be earned.

it doesn’t matter how intelligent they might be, if they don’t have what it takes to unleash that potential.

Maybe to set a minimum cutoff, like you need a certain number of points on a physical/mental test to do a certain job.
Things like bravery won’t do much for a soldier if he can’t run ten feet without breaking a sweat.
But they probably already have that sort of stuff.

yea fizix has explained what im trying to say…its like you dont wanna put a sniper into the hands of a person thats not capable of handling such a weapon…im really not trying to discredit the soldiers in anyway …like i said i have 3 cousins in the marines…im just saying the possibility of an aptitude test would open doors for potential

fizix, you don’t need to be a rocket scientist to join the army. I think the cutoff is mental retardation, terminal illness, dementia. I am pretty sure those are already a disqualifying factors. People who can’t run 10 ft without breaking a sweat fail the imposed physical fitness standards of joining the armed forces.

Also, the training ensures the soldiers are capable of operating equipment and are in suitable physical and mental condition to do their duties.

For the tougher stuff, they do have aptitude tests, such as the Military Flight Aptitude Test.

don’t they already have one of those? some guy tried to recruit me and he gave me a mock test.

Thats like saying that IQ is the predetermining factor in life sucess, which everyone with open eyes knows is not true.
