Ooooops I meant to say “options”, not offers. Maybe someone else can comment how many spots there are.
@TamFam i hear ya! I think the big plus to Gateway is, those offered are usually ‘bubble’ kids-close to auto admit, extenuating circumstances; they’re not super low admit kids who would most likely struggle.
I’ve said it many times, the only guarantee for A&M and UT is auto admit. Students should never ‘put all their eggs in one basket’. Hopefully those offered Gateway have other acceptances, plans in place…so if they’re offered Gateway, they can weigh options. It all comes down to, how bad do they want to be an Aggie, would they rather start at another school in August with their chosen major?
I, too, had a disaster semester in college (all my fault, just having fun), but turned it around thankfully.
Admission stated some TEAB just started rolling out this week. Good Luck all!
My daughter (class of ‘22) got in through Gateway. She had undiagnosed ADHD, so her first couple years of HS she only had a 3.0. After we got the correct diagnosis and proper accommodations, she earned a 4.0 in her remaining HS classes (mostly AP’s at that point), giving her a cumulative 3.5. She wrote a great essay explaining her grades. She had an 1310 SAT and was advised to apply test optional. She completed Gateway and finished her freshman yr w/ a 3.9. She applied and got into Mays for her sophomore yr. I give all this background to say that I think A&M offers Gateway to kids who may not have the best stats, but they’ve demonstrated they want to and are capable of handling the rigors of college. If you don’t think you’re ready to be serious about college I wouldn’t chance a provisional admission like Gateway. While the program offers a lot of support if you need it, if you’re not ready to make college a priority then it’s possible you won’t get that 2.0 to get in for the Fall. Although my understanding is that over the years there have only been a couple of kids who didn’t successfully complete Gateway.
My freshman Aggie had two classmates last semester that were regular, full-admits to Engineering but asked TAMU to be placed in TEAB instead and their requests were honored. They try to work with you if space allows.
If you are applying for a program with studio classes that need to start freshmen year, Blinn Team and PSA may not really work unless you don’t mind spending another year or two in college. Are certain pathways not offered if you are applying for a program where it doesn’t work or do they offer it anyway? Any information would really be appreciated! Thank you!
Which major?
Landscape Architecture. They seem to have a PSA path but it would add one year. Blinn might add 2 years if you can’t start in your major until Blinn has been completed. I don’t know what would happen with Gateway after the summer program.
If offered Blinn Team, it goes through change of major. Most transition in 1 year. Note that GPA needs to be 3.6+ to be safe but it should not be difficult given the required courses are not very difficult. If offered, don’t take anything too tough in the first year. Also don’t claim any AP credits until the GPA is secured after the first year.
Blinn Team offer won’t be given to students with too many DC credits.
hey everyone. i just submitted an appeal on my admissions decision. any idea how long these take to get an update?
Did you do transfer or freshman app?
freshman
My son is a TAMU sophomore (OOS). He was awarded a Maroon Merit with his acceptance letter (for Fall 2022 start). In February 2022, he was awarded departmental scholarships which came from the department directly by email. Those were not processed by financial aid until summer 2022, so we had to cross our fingers on May 1st and hope that those scholarships were really considered “competitive” and would count for the waiver. When the department scholarships were processed the Maroon Merit was replaced by those. Huge relief when the OOS waiver showed finally in his portal in July 2022, just a couple of weeks before we left for move-in. We found out that departmental scholarships to freshman are not typical at all, so no one could provide us with certainty (ie. in writing) as May 1st was approaching whether the ones he received would qualify for the OOS waiver. From our research and understanding that year, I concur with what 52AG82 said about most of the incoming freshman scholarships going to NMSF, Corps, etc…with some outliers as well that are likely dependant on major.
Omg, my kids manage application at 9:30, (checked 500 times a day) just changed to summer 2024 and major shows General Studies.
I know that should mean Gateway.
No 7 tabs yet. Still a little worried. Not what we expected. Figured Blinn Team or PSA was coming, 30 DC, 1st Q, TO, National Champ in AG. Lots of State level EC and leadership stats. (4-H and FFA)
Also, any one have Gateway experience, sure hate to give up summer, but hoping it’s worth it.
What was the admission decision if you don’t mind me asking?
Congratulations! At least it’s not the whole summer (5 weeks).
Gateway is the easiest pathway. 5 weeks 2nd session. Lots of support. Classes are easier. Also prep type classes. I am surprised with the decision tho since has 30 DC hours.
What was DC gpa?
My kiddo was offered the three options this morning. Team only , waitlist only, team and waitlist. Selected team only to potentially expedite the decision.
Found this in AIS this morning. Selected Team only, per advice here. How likely is it to switch to Team for him now?
