Texas A&M Class of 2028 Official Thread

That’s what I’m leaning towards as well.

Does anyone know what the acceptance rate for BLINN is? For engineering/computer science major hopeful

Congrats!

Thank you!

Agree with this completely. It might not “hurt” you going test-optional, but it makes your abilities somewhat unknown compared to students who aren’t going test-optional.

Pick Blinn and you’ll probably be accepted in a couple days. That’s just based on experience with kid #1 and what I’ve seen elsewhere over the years.

My guess is that you will get whichever option you choose. These options are likely only made available to some students and, once these are done, TAMU automatically assigns a campus to some remaining students. Last year S23 was informed about getting into TAMU-Galveston through an email in mid-Feb. Hope this helps!

I’m leaning towards BLINN, so if I pick BLINN, is there a good chance I will get BLINN?

I don’t want Galveston or McAllen really; BLINN is the only alternative that I actually like and see myself being in

Sorta makes that decision easy.

Seriously though, Blinn usually fills up first, so make that your pick and just wait a couple days to see what happens.

My son has similar stats, we did TO. He just received 3 options on Sunday. Picked Blinn Team only. Now we wait.

Exactly!

There is no way admission office discloses the waitlist numbers. One can only estimate.

Most TEAM students get waitlist as one of the options. With TEAM about 500-800 enrollment per year last five years, assume 1000-1500 TEAM offer along with waitlist went out.

Engineering for this year only have 4 options, TEAB, McAllen, Galveston and Decline All. No waiting list (or may be a few) for engineering.

Pick Engineering at Blinn, commonly referred as TEAB. Pick fast and get admitted so you can register housing if you still plan on living on campus.

What do you mean by “chose correctly”? Does that mean chose Blinn Team only?

If you do not get offered the three engineering options this week does that mean you will only be offered PSA eventually? I am just trying to estimate if it is over for my daughter. We are still in review as of 11:47 am :frowning:

Last few years they still offer TEAB through Feb.
Half of entire TAMU campus are engineers, it takes much longer time to process engineering.

I am going to make a case for choosing Galveston over Blinn. My son did his first year at Galveston and had the benefit of smaller classes, no parking issues, no issues with buses or getting to class. The dorms at Galveston are much nicer than what you would probably get at CSTAT. The biggest advantage, however, was the fact that it is much easier to get a leadership position and to be selected for clubs. My son was selected for a Freshman Leadership organization and was also involved a couple of other clubs. Getting into a FLO is super, super competitive at CSTAT and it is easier at Galveston just due to the number of applicants. When it came time for my son to write his ETAM essays, he wrote extensively about his involvement with the FLO, setting up for Muster, etc. I think this made a huge difference because he got his choice of majors even though his grades could have been better. Also, he got to know some of his professors and they have given him recommendation letters for outside scholarships. None of this probably would have happened at Blinn/CSTAT due to the sheer number of people competing for FLOs and other organizations. It has been a little bit of a shock for him now at CSTAT when he applies for a competitive organization and there are 2000 applicants for 50 spots.

@PepperMilo wouldn’t count on any scholarship $, as OOS (unless student is NMSF and/or joining the Corps). Hate to be Debbie Downer, but it’ll be TOUGH to get the $4k in scholarships, to qualify for in-state tuition.
A&M doesn’t ‘match’ offers from other schools, either.

For those that have been following admissions decisions for a few cycles, do you recall if the options email for engineering all go out on the same day or if there are waves of them?

Pretty sure same day.

Did your applicant list being open to Galveston or maybe prefer Galveston?

I don’t remember how TAMU words the application, but my son thinks it was something like a preference, so he remembers clicking that he prefers Galveston. I’m hoping that’s why he hasn’t received the choice.
