Was your friend’s son assigned Blinn Team outright or did he select it from the options?
She’s been accepted to several schools with generous scholarships. But TAMU in College Station is her first choice after an amazing presentation by the Public Health dean. I feel very confident that students who selected Blinn Team only will get an offer!!
Have you heard anything yet?
Blinn Team outright. Construction Science.
So top 13% is # 60 out of 469 students … my kid Sports Management Major
Top 22% is #101.2 out of 469 students … friend Construction Science
Seems like the three options should include Blinn team automatic verses…“Considered for Waitlist… Considered for Blinn Team”
Glad your son is loving Galveston!
Here are some additional points to consider for those trying to choose between Engineering options:
Galveston is full-time acceptance (same as CStat) while TEAB is a conditional, part-time offer with certain requirements that need to be met before being granted full-time status. TEAB doesn’t let you change majors until you complete all the TEAB program requirements first but changing majors is relatively easy at Galveston. This is important as a surprisingly large number of first year engineering students realize engineering is not for them.
You need a min. of 2.0 GPA to qualify for ETAM at Galveston vs a 2.5 at TEAB. For TEAB, you also need a 3.75 GPA at each institution (TAMU and Blinn, separately) for ETAM auto-admit, so getting your first choice major might be easier at Galveston.
Both options offer small class sizes.
Galveston is the most expensive option, due to higher housing cost and you’re required to live on campus. TEAB saves you 3-4K per year during your co-enrollment period and offers flexible on-campus and off-campus housing options at CStat.
My son chose TEAB last year and loves it. He was also able to get into a FLO (Freshman Leadership Org) in CStat and has had an amazing experience. There are 1K+ different clubs and orgs on main campus. There’s truly something for everyone. You don’t need to be in a FLO to succeed. As long as you get involved, you should be fine!
Happy to answer any questions!
The waiting is very difficult but we also need to remember that it’s not just stats. Essays were written, letters of recommendation also have to be taken into account. We are in the same boat as you. I totally get it.
So, while it doesn’t sound like our daughter will end up at TAMU, its definitely been a learning experience. Our son, in 8th grade, only wants to go to TAMU, and our eyes have been opened to how we can tailor his high school experience to give him a better chance of getting in. He; however, is homeschooled. We had serious concerns about his public middle school that the administration refused to address so we pulled him out. I work full time from home so his homeschool classes are taken at a co-op program near us. They do offer some honors level classes, but no AP. I know he can still do DC and he can also still prep and take an AP exam, but not sure how that gets reflected on the SRAR since his classes wouldn’t be technically AP level. Anyone on this thread have a homeschooler that has gotten accepted to TAMU that can offer suggestions, tips, must-do’s to help increase chances of acceptance? As of right now, he’s not interested in going back to public school so we’re researching this whole high school homeschool situation now and any help/advice is welcome.
Our daughter didn’t even apply to Tech because she didn’t want to be that far from home. We’re in Houston so 8 hour drive for us.
Your information is great. My son is no longer at Galveston. He completed ETAM and is a sophomore engineering student at CSTAT. He started in August 2022 at Galveston and stayed one year.
You are 100% correct that it is pretty easy to change majors at Galveston and several kids he knew did. They decided engineering wasn’t for them and moved on to other majors at CSTAT. And yes, it is a surprisingly large number. The same for full admits to CSTAT. Many kids he knows dropped out of engineering at the main campus during their first year.
Also, when my son was at Galveston, they did have the requirement to live on campus, but several people applied for an exemption to live off campus and all were granted. Galveston also gets full, so if you get this offer don’t delay too long in accepting it.
Homeschooler/online Classical Christian schooler here! My son got into Mays in Sept.
Keep your grades up. Study for the SAT or ACT and get good at one of them. Oldest took it twice to get the score he wanted to secure a good chance at A&M -1510. My other son took the SAT 4 times to get the score he needed to get in - 1470. Take high level, rigorous classes especially if your kid wants engineering. They need the classes to look qualified but also to be ready to succeed at A&M. My Mays kid will have Stats, Business Math, and Calc 1. My engineering kid will have Calc II and Calc based Physics. Mays kid -33 hours DC, Engineering Kid - 12 hours DC, 2 AP.
My son got offer straight blinn team no options with a 3.45 on a 4.0 scale and submitted a 1250 sat
@AETX - thank you!! This is great info.
I called and spoke to a couple different departments regarding Gateway. For us the NSC happens during finals, so they suggested posing a question under Contact Us->Ask a question ->NSC Registration. Apparently the head of NSC reads those daily.
OOS Gateway is $8320 tuition + $3,850 R&B for the 5 week/6credit summer program, but as of 2023. No updated #s are out there for 2024. Also apparently the aid and merit letters are delayed until April b/c of the FAFSA. But I was talking to a student in that dept, so if anyone else on CC knows better, please chime in.
Finally, it appears that after graduating from Gateway you still need another 4 classes with a min 3.75 GPA to get out of General Studies and into your major. Lots of risk here for us with an OOS price tag, sadly.
Thank you
Thanks a lot.
I am in the same boat as you. Manage application states to login to AIS for decision but nothing appears. I’ve been told it’s most likely a PSA offer. Pls let me know if it updates for you. Good luck
No changes or updates yet. You?
What changes do you see? My son’s AIS has not changed since 8/1. Does this mean total rejection? I’m baffled by the process this year.
In Howdy, under manage application, it states login in to AIS for decision, but AIS isn’t updatedz Change of major and withdraw buttons are gone which I’ve been told means PSA offer. It’s been a crazy ride for sure. Nothing has updated so far besides that.
At least you have that! Nothing at all here. Hope you hear some good news soon!
