Texas A&M Class of 2028 Official Thread

I lead this message with my friendly “I don’t know anything about anything” disclaimer…as I just joined a few weeks ago and have 0 experience other than reading a lot.

I’ve seen a few times that someone would call Admissions, and then post something that they were told. My bet, in every case, is that the question posted may not have been verbatim to the sentiment of that question, the authority/knowledge of the person who responded may be inconsistent, the interpretation of the answer may not have been fully accurate…and you end up with the “I called Admissions” telephone game. About a week ago someone called and asked about the apparent Gateway offers, and someone told them that “there was a glitch” and 3 message boards melted down. Turned out to be wrong…if you thought you were getting Gateway, you did…but you never know how it was phrased.

So, now to my take on this…

The original post on this was something about “Admissions said they wanted to have most decisions done by 2/11, but some will take through March.” That became “admissions will be out by 2/11,” and took on a unique life of its own. My guess is that they’re going to have most decisions very soon (not just because they said 2/11, but because it fits the timeline of past years). This probably includes offers for those offered options, and those who chose the waitlist are likely the ones who have the chance at the longest wait through March.

Again, I know nothing…just my $0.02.

That’s too far away for her. Her criteria was within 2 hours of home…we’re in Houston. That narrowed her choices to TAMU and Sam Houston. I was trying to get her to apply to Tech because they also have a good program, but she said it was too far and wouldn’t even go visit.

That’s really sweet actually. My S24 keeps saying he wants to go far away so he can “really grow up.” But my D22 that is at Trinity, an hour and a half away, never comes home and she is doing plenty of growing up. Love the 2 hours away! :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Well then one option is transfer, below is the transfer course sheet. The required courses seem very basic, so even though the minimum GPA says 3.0, student needs to aim as high as possible.

Transfer admission rate is about 50% for Animal Science.

So if your student is up to it, enroll full time at Blinn or HCC. Then apply transfer.

Is that 50% transfer rate just for animal science or overall transfers into TAMU?

Animal science.

Curious if the timeline advised by Admissions was for decisions on all remaining applications or decisions for those that specifically chose Blinn TEAM as the option? I’m still hopeful for a firm decision on Blinn TEAM this week!

I asked about general admission decisions, not Blinn Team or any other options.

Not Aggie related, but related to a topic that has been brought up on this board and may apply to folks who are applying or have kids applying in future cycles - Dartmouth announced that it is making standardized tests scores mandatory again, although not right away.

My guess is that a lot of other schools will follow suit. And I’d recommend any applicant submit scores even if TAMU is TO in the future because the data demonstrates that the scores are a good indicator of success in college. And, as we have all seen, a solid score can be the difference maker in a holistic decision.

Dartmouth claims that bringing back the SAT and standardized testing could help applicants from ‘less resourced families’ (msn.com)

Any idea how long after 7 tabs a student should expect an update in AIS? Got 7 tabs and a change to General Engineering and Galveston today!

Your student is granted admission to TAMU at Galveston.

Along with McAllen, TEAB and Main campus engineering students, they all compete in the same ETAM pool to get their engineering major in sophomore year.

PSA option came through this evening. Odd time for an update, but glad we got an answer finally.

Just joined! Waiting on decision - engineering. GPA 98.68 rank 147 out of 657. Several AP classes. EC-Robot Captain for First Robotics Team at the school. TO bc his SAT was 1200 and when meeting with engineering dept they said to do TO. His friend got denial last week and a few of his friends got accepted already. Some with lower rank and lower GPA. What are his chances at acceptance realistically? And are the full admit to CS already full for engineering?

Is AP Calculus BC one of those?

Unfortunately no. The school counselor screwed up (and then got fired but the damage was done). He plans on taking calculus over the summer at our local junior college to catch up and then take it again if he gets into A&M.

He does have honors and AP Computer science classes
