Texas A&M Class of 2028 Official Thread

TAMU undergraduate admission is 100% decided by admission office, and upon engineering department request, they look exclusively on students’ Calculus preparedness. That’s why having Calculus to prove is very important. Engineering math is very unforgiving at TAMU, each engineering major easily has over 50 credit hours using Calculus.

At this point admission is not likely. If PSA is offered, consider those five or six engineering majors offered via PSA. If your student prefer other engineering majors, Engineering Academy is another option. I advise against taking Calculus I/II in the summer as such a short time is not enough to build a solid foundation.

He does have AP Physics and TAP Precal if that makes a difference

Having AP Physics 1 or 2 is good, but it doesn’t prove Calculus. Only AP Physics C has Calculus readiness but normally only students with AP Calculus first before taking AP Physics C.

May be a bit late but hopefully future students/parents will know, even if school counselor not advising Calculus, students can choose to self-pace via on line classes as long as students register and take the AP Calculus AB/BC test and get a score. Even a 9th grader can try.

If PSA offer arrives, please consider both Academies and PSA if your student really wants TAMU. Transition rate is 70%, your student needs to be very open minded about major. Should you choose either one, ask their advisors if it is appropriate to take college classes in the summer as they may allow you to join the program in the summer instead. TAMU manage both Academies and PSA and have their vigorous standard not the same as regular DC or junior colleges. Self-pacing on line can start any time even right now.

I’m sorry if the PSA option is not what you were hoping for. At least it is good to have a decision so you can move forward. Good luck on whatever path you decide to take.

Yes, it does look like CS engineering is full because Galveston and TEAB offers are coming out. TBH, going TO and not having at least AP Cal AB is going to make any kind of an admission offer unlikely. PSA (if your son is interested in a major offered) or an engineering academy could be a great move because it would give extra time for him to get up to speed on math and science. TAMU math and science (whether at CS, Galveston, or TEAB) is no joke and even the most prepared kids struggle. TAMU knows a large number of first year engineering students will drop out of engineering or leave the university altogether. That is how they have room for all those coming in from TEAB, Galveston, and the academies.

He has already been accepted at UT Dallas for computer science major and at Colorado school of Mines ($$$$$) but had his heart set on A&M. Thank you all for the replies.

Would all of the modular dorms be full at this point?

dorm selection doesn’t happen for several months

So if I were to complete my hosing application sometime in the next few weeks would they still be available when dorm selection comes around? I was told they’re pretty in demand so I was just wondering

@Abie456 dorm selection is based on time stamp housing deposit is paid/phase 1 completed.

Hullabaloo and Northside Modulars fill the quickest, in the first few days.
At this point, your best shot at getting a Modular is either ‘match’ with someone who got accepted in the first few days OR hope to find an empty bed and take total pot luck.

Housing already stated that guaranteed dorms would be full, most likely by mid February (based on someone who paid deposit recently). When dorms are full, it goes to Temp Housing list, then Wait List. Neither are guaranteed, and you can’t ‘match’ with someone if you’re on Temp or Wait List.

Your dorm selection time is based on when you complete Phase 1 of housing and pay the deposit. Hullabaloo and the Northside Modular dorms fill up pretty fast, within the first two days of housing sign up by the students who completed Phase 1 back in Sept/October.

Well it’s been a morning here. My son calls me and tells me he has 7 tabs! I had checked this board only minutes before and was stunned that he would find news before the masses here.

We dig in…no update on AIS…but clicking on all the new boxes and we’re pretty sure this is admission for A&M Galveston, which he applied to a few weeks ago as a back-up plan.

So we’re very excited that we now have an Aggie no matter what, and still hopeful our TEAM only option cashes in so he’s in College Station!

Congrats. The big question for your son might eventually be whether to stay in Galveston or not. I’ve seen multiple people saying their kids loved Galveston so much they decided to stay.

If that’s the way it plays out, then can I can live with that.

And, of course, he calls a few minutes ago freaking out that CS will take his Galveston admission into account and not get offered TEAM. I told him that they were completely different and we don’t need to do anything but wait. Can someone confirm that for me so I’m not believing my own line of crap?

Plus, wouldn’t a student taking a community college class have to take the credit and then have to take other Calc classes at A&M to be eligible for ETAM? Just asking.

I am just wildly guessing here, but if you already selected team, only, my sense is those decisions have been made, and they’re just loading up the system to be able to tell everyone. But to be clear, a wild guess

Agree with this, plus I’ve seen people saying they got both.

I want to agree with your wild guess as well!

Wild guess is correct. They will not penalize you for also applying and being accept to tamug.

I am however surprised team offers haven’t gone out yet. I’m not panicked that were wrong and we led anyone astray but I am surprised.

Congratulations. Do you mind sharing how much merit TAMU offered ?
