If you get an Opportunity Major, I’d advise contacting someone and asking them these questions. I don’t think Business can be a double major, but I can’t point to where I’ve read this. Business can be a minor, but you’re not in business classes with Business majors, I believe.
You can’t easily double major at A&M, and I don’t think it’s possible to add a Business degree.
You could add a business minor-watered down courses that Mays students don’t take.
You need to be super familiar with trying to add a major, especially because you are entering with 40 hours-that could work against you, and be terribly costly if you go over the allotted number of hours.
Correct. All minor classes for business are online only. This was even pre covid.
And no way you can double major in business otherwise everyone who wanted business would do this then drop the other major. There’s not enough room at the moment to even make it possible. They’ll add more primary business majors first.
If you get offered Opportunity Major, a great option for you might be INTS - International Commerce track. Take a look at some of the “business” courses that are wrapped up in that. You could get some great international internship (required for INTS) you’d be in the Bush School, business adjacent and set up for a lot of career paths.
If someone isn’t checking their AIS, would they totally miss the opportunity to choose one of these offered alternative options? There’s nothing emailed, right? Asking for a friend.
Hi. I just checked the information for the opportunity major. My daughter’s 2nd choice major, Landscape Architecture, is on the list. It is actually now her first choice since learning more about field.
She received the 3 options (non engineering) and we are waiting for that update like everyone else. We are hoping for Blinn but as much as that is a great program it does present 2 issues.
First, LandArch is a 4 year program with studio classes that must be taken in order and she can’t start until she is admitted into the program. This will add one year of college, and the expense won’t be easy for us. We contacted the dept and they confirmed it will take 5 years if she is admitted to Blinn Team. The other issue is whether she is admitted after completing 2 semesters at Blinn. The change of major information sheet indicates students can be competitive with a 3.0 after 2 semesters. Does anyone know more about this program and how competitive it is? She has been admitted to 2 other schools but wants to be an Aggie and has been most impressed by their program. She is also disappointed because she is really looking forward to starting studio classes. Any information would be greatly appreciated! I am hoping since the program was listed as opportunity she may have a good chance next year.
Hopefully you all hear something soon. Also, there’s PSA, which also offers landscape architecture. I did PSA in Corpus (loved it!) and am now in my second semester at TAMU. https://admissions.tamu.edu/apply/freshman/program-for-system-admission
@AETX this is what someone posted last week, what the offers look like.
She is 1st quarter
21% of her class.
Blinn Team if offered won’t delay a year.
The Howdy session will control what to take (LAND classes) at TAMU, the Math, Science and be taken at Rellis. Advisors will make it work.
Thank Frisco Dad. Maybe the person we spoke to thought we were talking about Blinn and not Blinn Team. I posted notes from the program flyer below. Either way we are just wondering if anyone knows if it’s very competitive to get into the program after 1 year of TEAM. It may be worth it to stay another year because TAMU is ranked considerably higher than the other schools she was admitted to. There aren’t very many programs around here.
To be clear, if your kid gets Blinn Team for landscape architecture, it’s not a transfer to move from Blinn Team to full time A&M student. Your kid will take some classes at Blinn and some classes (probably including studio) at A&M. Just like with engineers who take math and science classes at Blinn and engineering labs at A&M. Once all requirements at Blinn are completed, they transition relatively seamlessly to full time A&M.
You shouldn’t be a year behind. You’re probably right that the person was thinking you were talking about a full time Blinn to full time A&M transfer.
From Team to LAND is through change of major. After 12 hours at TAMU, one can apply during May to June window.
I appreciate the feedback. Thank you!
Is this email or on the Howdy portal?
We found it in AIS. Front and center on login
Have all communications majors been notified? Construction Sciences?
Then I was definitely off on that one. Didn’t realize there were any majors that required a transfer to move from Blinn team.
Around what time does Howdy update each day? Hoping today is Blinn Team update day because it seems they’ve gone through everything else.
Howdy usually updates by 7:30 am. I know last year was 15 days between the 3 options and 7 tabs, but I am really surprised it hasn’t happened yet. Maybe tomorrow or Monday? Yikes.
