Texas A&M Class of 2028 Official Thread

Will do.

I will email ResLife to ask about my standing in the housing list, to see if there is anything that I might be able to do now.

I have an Aggie Mom friend who shared with me her son’s story. He was outright denied TAMU College Station. Forgive me, I don’t remember his major - something science-y - and it may have been a couple years ago. His mom told him to turn around and apply to TAMU Galveston directly, I think Oceans and One Health. He heard back very shortly, like a week. He successfully completed his first year and applied for a change of major. He’s now in College Station with his original, desired major.

EDIT: Obviously, his degree plan aligned very closely to the degree plan TAMUG admitted him to.

This is EXACTLY why we applied to TAMUG, though we did it before we got the options message. His accepted degree plan mimics what he’d need in CS for the first year.

If he falls in love with TAMUG and stays, so be it, but the plan is to do the year and change to CS (if the TEAM option doesn’t come through).

Can someone explain to me why the admissions meeting and office keep claiming that the student gets into A&M first and then the major? They said it MULTIPLE times in the admissions meeting. If that were true, then my student who is in the top quarter with a 1340 on her SAT (yes, lots of APs and lots of service hours) would already be in at least to her 2nd choice major above others who were admitted in the 2nd quarter without submitting a score at all. Even some people in the 3rd quarter. Why can’t they just tell the truth? If I had known, we would have picked a completely different major. Instead, we got stuck with the 3 options with still no answer while many kids much lower ranked were given Gateway.

If this is how it is, it’s how it is, but don’t claim one thing and completely not honor it.

Date of application? Which major? What did your student pick in the 3 options?

I hate to be that person, but at least you got 3 options! My D24 has higher SAT than yours and took AP Calc as a junior, along with 8 other APs and didn’t got 3 options and we’re in review limbo still. I agree that nothing makes sense at A&M.

Best of luck with your options and decision! :+1:

8/2 application, Business

We picked Business b/c that is what she really wants. And on the Business tour, they tell you they won’t even consider you unless you put Business first. I thought it was a low chance of Business but had known people last year with her stats that got in in December. Felt like it was worth a chance and if Mays was full, she could get her second choice, Communications.

She chose Blinn Team only, but I feel like the secret is out and everyone knows to pick that. Seems like that “bucket” must be really full if no one has heard yet.

Had I to do it over again, would have just chosen Communications. All the people we know lower than her that chose that are in. At this juncture, she’s worse off than them…late on housing and might not get anything at all. Will still have to try to get into Mays if she gets Blinn team (would have been same situtation if Comm major).

@LaFinalista, I am very sorry and completely understand your frustration. None of it makes sense.

In various years in the past, from a few days to up to 2 weeks for admission update. Should be ok.

Thanks. I think something is still coming in for her, since we know someone with similar stats who got full admit today, but the lack of housing opportunity is very disappointing, as a former student who loved living on campus. (Oh and we applied 8/1. So… it’s been frustrating for a while.)

Exact same situation here (majors and all) with my daughter. She’s top 7% with a 3.9uw (over 5.5 w) at her current school, but was not in the top 10% at the very challenging, competitive school she attended junior year because it was so small (top 10% was 3 students).

I do wish she’d chosen another major to avoid this wait and anxiety about housing et al, but honestly Blinn TEAM looks great.

Let me know if your daughter decides on Blinn TEAM & perhaps they can chat about a possible roommate situation.

Housing will work out! I’m about to send my third child to A&M. I’ve told him not to sweat the housing. There are plenty of housing opportunities in CSTAT. I successfully (with a bit of effort) got housing in 24 hours for one of my children on TWO separate occasions. If dorms don’t come through, or there is a huge issue with the choice given, there are alternatives.

@LaFinalista has your student tried to find a roomie who has already been accepted? That’s the best way to get a dorm-assuming y’all get accepted prior to Wait List.

I have a few more questions about the temp housing. I heard if you have temp housing you may not be able to select a roommate. Does that mean someone with a higher date stamp can no longer pull you up? Also, does anyone know what the cost is? Is it determined by the dorm they assign you to?

@MMel that is correct-students on Temp List and Wait List can’t participate in dorm selection. Even if they have a friend with a high selection date, not allowed.

Temp Housing students will have a bed :sleeping_bed: somewhere-could be converted study lounge, converted storage closet, might be extra beds crammed into a room-but it it temporary. Could be days, weeks or months. A shower/bathroom is provided, but that is probably down the hall. Temp housing isn’t usually traditional dorm rooms.
As beds open up, students are placed in those openings. Temp List can’t be picky or choosy-you get where they assign you.

Wait List may not find out until June or July 1, IF they will even get a bed…many don’t. Wait List is NOT guaranteed.

You can find pricing for all dorms on A&M ResLife website-

Thanks for the info 52AG82! Do you know if the temp rooms are furnished? Also as far as pricing do they offer a lower rate while in the temp room or does it depend on where they assign you?

I have a question about choosing a major to apply to Galveston. Our son hopes to change major to BIMS in College Station if he gets accepted. We have looked into Oceans and One Health, and Marine Biology and they look similar…any suggestions?

I’ve been told Oceans and One Health is a great path!
