Texas A&M Class of 2028 Official Thread

Just a few years ago 3.5 TEAM guaranteed contract made it very easy to transition to TAMU Mays. Now 3.8 is not so easy, especially considering they force TEAM students to take 6-8 weeks for Accounting 1 and 2. Last Fall only a few TEAM got to Mays, most transition to other majors. The numbers will be reflected in 2026.

TEAM is still a very solid program for almost all other majors. Students need to be open minded on majors and be realistic on Mays chances.

There’s a Facebook parent page for PSA and PTA that is really helpful. They also allow students to join. It’s a private group, but only have to answer a few basic questions. This group was SUPER helpful for me when I got PSA. Texas A & M - Parents of PSA/PTA Students | Facebook

That’s interesting data. My personal take on it is that people coming out of HS and acutally getting into A&M fit in a few different buckets.

*Talent - This is your person who’s just naturally freaking smart. They are studious, but generally they wake up and get As.

*Achiever - This is your person who’s pretty smart, but not as naturally smart as the one above. They have to work hard to get into the highest discussion. Don’t let my categorization fool you - they’re REALLY naturally smart, but not at the same level as “Talent.”

*Talented and Achiever - In my view of both college and the “real world” this person is actually pretty rare. You are incredibly talented AND you’ve shown the work ethic/drive to put in the work consistently; the work few others are willing to do.

My suspicion is the Team Blinn student skews to Achiever. Smart, smart kids who had to learn a work ethic to get their foot in the door. They’re probably, in reality, more college ready than the raw Talent group.

Plenty of “Achiever” getting regular admission I’m sure, and they’re off to the races as well.

Just my $0.02. Again, please no one take this as a slight on the “Achiever” bucket. I think everyone left on this thread knows how dramatically hard it is to get into A&M. Plenty of “Achiever” and “Talent” deserve a shot and may not get it without an alternate path.

My kiddo is definitely more of an Achiever and got TEAM. She is a true holistic review with great grades and her course rigor and grades increased over the 3 years of high school, while also being involved in many ECs that required time management and learning how to study.

Positive vibes for everyone still waiting!!

My kiddo is a BIMS hopeful, like yours. The change of major from Galveston majors to BIMS is the same as internal change of major from CSTAT majors to BIMS. The requirements are here: Change of Major | Texas A&M University College of Arts and Sciences

We also attended the BIMS presentation this weekend and spoke one-on-one with both the professor who presented and Jacob Crough who is one of the BIMS academic advisors. We outlined our personal options we’re considering of Blinn Team vs Oceans and One Health in Galveston. Both agree that the smaller class sizes for the freshman “weed out” classes of OOH sounds like a great choice vs the larger arena in CStat. The only concern is the clubs and student organizations that are available in College Station are not as available in Galveston. Galveston kids will need to be more intentional in seeking out relevant ways to become involved.

ok i am super confused. I applied to A&M college station in late august and had a complete application (according to AIS) on the 1st of september. I did this through applytexas and my major is Chemical Engineering with a back up as Chemistry. I was ranked 1st quarter since my school does not rank people, i have a 4.7(out of 5.0) gpa (i assume unweighted but my school doesnt tell me anything at all so idk), I am in 3 varsity sports one of which i have been in since 8th grade ( i go to a school where there are 30 kids in my grade, and i have tons of clubs and community service under my belt. My school has been identified as a feeder school for TAMU due to the vast amounts of people who get accepted and none of them understand what the hold up for my appliction is. Other people have already gotten in with TEAM and PAS and others were told they need to complete 5 hours in the summer before going to main campus. A kid in my grade who applied to the engineering program does not have as strong of an app as i do and he was absolutley suprised that I havent heard anything. When my mom called, the lady on the phone even was shocked and told me i need to change my major. I have recived emails from TAMU saying that my app is still in review and whatnot so I know that nothing was lost but im at a loss right now. I applied to other schools like UTA and got in on full admisson (without taking a math readiness test) and i applied like 3 days before the apps closed. I recived this desicion like almost 3 weeks after that. Did I do something wrong? I feel like if everyone around me is telling me this is abnormal then I think it may really be.
also i apologize for my spelling or grammar im a bit dyslexic and there is no checker lol

My mom taught gifted and talented language arts when I was a kid. In those years teachers saw the IQ test for acceptance into the program. My mom always told me that she would take a kid with less “talent” and more work ethic every time in the classroom. It’s stuck with me all of these years.

To get to TAMU general engineering, rank and scores still matter most, immediately after that is course strength. For CHEN, applying with AP Chem and AP Calculus BC on Junior and Senior will increase chance. Unfortunately they don’t look much on ECs and LORs.
Having backup plan is always good!

@AJGate what is your class rank? Did you submit test scores? What’s the highest level of math you’ve taken?
Never heard of a high school being identified as an ‘A&M feeder school’…pretty sure that’s not a thing.

I’ll second that. My sophomore at A&M Blinn team for Mays path has had something to prove from day 1. She never understood why others with lesser stats got full admit at A&M while she was offered Blinn Team. She knew business was a tough major and she applied 8/1 and waited and waited. Since being in TEAM, she’s earned a 4.0 and will transition into Mays after this semester but it’s because she has had a fire in her belly to prove she deserved that Mays spot she didn’t get out of the gate 2 years ago when she applied. She is smart but has an incredible work and study ethic on top of that and getting TEAM just set this goal of Mays into motion.

My first Aggie went the Blinn Team route. High school classmates used to tease about not being a real Aggie during freshman year. Guess who the only person in that friend group is to still be in the Honors program?

And that tenacity translates so well to the business world……

the feeder school thing has to do with our county. The vast majority of all of our seniors go to TAMU, UTA, Baylor, or the local college 5 mins from where our school is. This is important because last year we had 23 out of 28 students attend TAMU ranging from buissness and engineering to like medical. We are a private college prepatory school with small class sizes and we have had issues with our math department for years. they gave us a math test in 7th grade which I passed and that should have ment I was going to be in the advanced math class but for some reason me and like 5 other students were held back due to the class being full after our teacher graded the first period class first. I tested out of algebra 1 my sophmore year just to be told that I would be able to take the advanced class because there were no spots. I tried taking summer classes that way I could be in the advanced math class but after i went to the comunity college and completed the course, the credits were denied because it was not through DBU, an expensive christain college in dallas. All of our dual credit classes are ran through this college and that was the only excuse they had for me. I am in AP Pre-cal as a highschool student but I am trying to take a calculus class at the moment.

For testing i didnt sumbmit scores which i knew would affect me even if the website said it did not however I am probably one of the worst test takers known to man. My school has no class rank and our classes only know who the top ten are which are a total of 4 people.

@AJGate you answered the big question-why you haven’t been admitted.
Your math level isn’t high enough for Engineering. You need to at least have Calculus. And test optional doesn’t show math readiness.

@FriscoDad is the Engineering expert, he can weigh in on your stats and options.

well the student i was reffering to earlier also has not taken calculus or even pre-cal. He is currently taking personal finance.

And he was admitted directly into General Engineering at A&M? Or another major?

Right now is too late for any plan adjustment, so just have to wait.

There is no reason one has to follow private school STEM schedule. One can even self-pace AP Calculus doing Khan or any on line math self-help so long as to register and take the College Board AP Calculus tests. Many private schools lack the resources of public ISDs so it is common for them to be behind.

The preferred schedule to be good (or surviving?) TAMU engineering is Algebra I at 8th, Algebra II/Geometry at 9th, pre-Cal at 10th, Calculus BC (not AB) at 11th. Differential Equation and/or Discrete Math at 12th. Even completing this series, actual classes rigor at TAMU are still much tougher as professors are not inclined to explain steps in detail (TAs do, but they are not paid high enough to help hundreds of students).

The tough math requirement at TAMU has its reasons, students scoring 4s or 5s in AP Calculus BC can still tank their Calculus III and Diff Eq. And majors like MEEN, AERO, BMEN and CHEN can easily have over 40-60 hours of classes requiring Applied Calculus. The learning curve will be very steep for those with pre-cal only. TAMU does have Math150 for those with pre-cal but a few months proved to be hard for students to catch up and they are planning to move away from that model.

he says general engineering at A&M

Is he the Valedictorian? When was he admitted?
Has he paid housing deposit and does he have an admitted banner?
Honestly not even a slim chance he got in directly to Gen Engineering, without even Pre-Cal (unless maybe he’s Valedictorian). Or is he NMSF?

THATS WHAT IM SAYING! He is not Valedictorian, not top 10, has a worse gpa than I do, is not in hard classes, and was admitted on Thursday of last week. The only thing he has going for him is that he is going into the core
