Texas A&M Class of 2028 Official Thread

If the day we got options was day 1…today is day 27.

I wonder why there have been a few people that were automatically assigned to TEAM without getting the “3 options” like the majority of others…

If I were hip and cool enough, I’d generate one of those Titanic old lady memes. It seems very appropriate right now.

That is what my son wonders as well. Two friends from his school received TEAM a month ago, and were ranked lower than him. He is top 13%, number 60 out of 469 students. One friend was ranked 19% and the other was ranked 22%, and they both got TEAM. He wishes he would have just received TEAM instead of the three options.

I wonder if it depends on the major? Or maybe the student’s stats? Gateway students do seem to have lower stats overall. I think straight-to-Blinn students might have slightly lower stats as well? Those students given the options are very strong students who have 4.0’s and good (but not great) test scores. Again, my sample is kids posting on Reddit and you all. So it is a very biased sample. At this point everything is so different from previous cycles… who knows!?!

Your son’s situation completely aligns with my very rigorous analysis of every comment on Reddit and CC

Yes, those that didn’t get the options, didn’t meet the threshold for full admit. Those that did get the options were probably deemed as full admit ready, just not enough spots. Then they see who’d be happy with just team and move (in the past) those all to team. Then they sift through the rest.

That’s a private FB group, started by a parent. Admissions won’t have any knowledge about it.
I’d reach out to the admin of the page-her name is visible on that screenshot.

One thing that I will say is that those who chose TEAB from the options they got for TEAB, McAllen, and Galveston received their TEAB decision days after the options released for them, so I am a little confused why it is taking much longer for TEAM only students to receive a decision. I am hoping the reason could be because they would just like to send out all remaining decisions at once, but who knows what the real reason is. Let us all keep hoping for the best!!

I think they just knocked out engineering first since many of those students did EA back in October. Just a hunch tho.

You make a great point Christi, but if the ones getting the options were more qualified than the ones that got straight TEAM offer several weeks ago, it seems backwards, b/c those students are in a better position for housing and were able to apply for housing well before it even went to temporary housing, but if this is true and the options students were considered more qualified they should have taken care of these students first so we would have a better place for housing. Wouldn’t you think?

I wonder if Frisco has any insight on why the AO seem to be bucking the previous trends.

I also wonder if it’s because of the choice of majors your son’s friends had. Maybe they applied to less competitive options?
It sounds like TAMU would have ranked them all as 1st quarter since they weren’t top 10%, so I’m not sure their actual HS rank plays into this.
If all applied to same major with similar stats/demographics/etc, I wonder if it just came down to the essay and EC’s?

My son applied for Sports Management, while one friend applied for Economics and the other Construction Science. It may have been the essay, but I really thought he knocked it out of the park on his essay. He mentioned working 15-20 hours a week at Home Depot while taking 4 AP classes and participating in sports. He even squeezed in that he would be a 4th generation Aggie. My hubby, his grandfather, and his great-grandfather all graduated from A&M. It has been so hard waiting.

I will say that some who’ve reported PSA to my kid’s major had a higher SAT score. I’m guessing Top 25% is Top 25%, and they don’t look closely at 11% vs 19% (so many on here talk about their actual number).

My kid felt like they rocked their essays - I read and agreed - but I also think every parent probably thinks their kid rocked their essays.

My kid’s ECs and course rigor were strong…but I’m also guessing most are strong.

At the end of the day, I’m just unsure what makes them draw their line where they do. I’m 100% sure they have a method.

Yes, that’s what I did. I reached out to the parent who is the admin for group.

There are still some EA engineering applicants still waiting since I asked earlier in this forum and some said they were still waiting, so hopefully team decisions come with those remaining EA engineering application decisions soon! They said by mid-February for those still in review for engineering EA so hopefully team decisions will come with those decisions as well.:crossed_fingers:

My daughter, class of 2026 got straight admit to Blinn Team and she had a higher GPA, much higher SAT score and more EC’s then her 2 friends who were offered the 3 options. So who knows how they are picked

Just curious… how did her 2 friends end up? What did they choose and what did they get…
