Texas A&M Class of 2028 Official Thread

They did not get in to A&M after selecting Blinn Team and Waitlist. One was Psychology and one Animal Science. Both now attend UARK.
My daughter applied for Kinesiology Motor Behavior.

Dearest Mother,

Our battle against time continues. We’ve stayed legion for twice a fortnight, seeking refuge from those who possess the answers we seek. They remain silent. Our resolve is tested, possibly fractured, but not broken.

Scout missions suggest resolution in the coming seven days, but we know not if they possess quality intelligence, or perhaps just the latest gossip discussed 'round the open fire.

Nonetheless, we persist. I shall write again soon.

With love, from the front lines,

Your son

Dear Boy,

Hold fast on your quest. Those that hold the knowledge will eventually give you what you seek. Whether in 7 days, or alas, another fortnight. If the answers aren’t what you hope, you can always redirect the forces toward Lubbock or Galveston, or even Tarleton. Those paths may lead you to the same reward in the end.

Sending you strength and resolve as you wait,

Mother

I would say it’s a little early to be drinking. But it is Friday, and having had one kid go through a prolonged delay for an admissions decision I get it.

I was disappointed there were only 3 posts this morning when I opened up the thread but OMG I have never laughed so hard. If your kiddos are anything like y’all, then I say we definitely have an outstanding Class of 2028.

Maybe someone from AO will read this and think “Can we cut these folks some slack?”

I wonder if there is a way AO can check to see how many times we have logged on and checked status. I think I hold the record! My thought process… maybe it will show 7 tabs at 7am…9am… noon… after 3… 7pm… right before I got bed…

Thank y’all for keeping up the humor. I need it!! Thank God my kid has his dad’s patience…he told me he didn’t plan to hear until March 1st and that was that!
Meanwhile , I’m here seething and fretting. Are we even sure of the March 1st date? I know once we see those tabs, everything will be forgiven :smiling_face:

I think someone heard March 1st at Aggieland Saturday and that’s become our new “Hey, yeah, that’s it!” Hope is a dangerous drug…

Yeah, Blinn Team Guy said they “should” have all their decisions by March 1. I assume that’s always subject to change, because clearly this year isn’t like past years.

I really think TAMU is doing a disservice to its applicants by not being more transparent about the procedures/deadlines surrounding the process. Information would alleviate so much anxiety.

Unfortunately, and at least this is how I’ve made peace with it myself, we’re on the wrong side of the supply and demand curve here.

They have no “need” to be more transparent because, well, what’s the adverse affect to them?

And of course, like all of us, I’m willing to deal with whatever as long as my kid gets admitted. So as anxious as I am, since we’re still in the running, I kinda don’t care. I just know that they have a process and not all things are, nor will ever be, known to me. Plus, I make the presumption that they’re doing what they’re doing for a good reason. Just isn’t convenient/healthy for us.

Correct. A&M is in a position of power and know kids are waiting in rows to get accepted.

At the Eye of the Tiger event at LSU, and they just said this year has been their most competitive class ever. Highest ACT, SAT, and GPA class to date. Highest amount of applicants as well. From that statement alone, Universities all across the board are dealing with this surge and are only accepting the cream of the crop.

I know the wait is excruciating, but we are still in the running. Our kids have had exceptional success to be where they are.

It seems all colleges are reporting more applications. I’m wondering how much of it is from students applying to more schools.
I also kind of think they may want to hire some more AO’s!

Here is the scoop I found on Facebook Aggie Parents Page for 3 options:

We went for a visit this week and met with admissions both at RELLIS and at TAMU campus and got the following information. Choosing “both” does not affect your chances of either. The TAMU waitlist is a numbers game. They are waiting on the students that got offers to accept or decline by 3/1 (that was the suggested date) however because technically they don’t have to decide how til 5/1 there may be a longer wait. Add on top of that FAFSA delays this year and the fact that last year they had too many freshman and admitted the largest freshman class ever they only offered I think she said 2000 of the three options becauee the campus was so crowded last year. My daughter asked if there was anything she could do to improve her options of getting off waitlist and they said no the application had already been reviewed and now it was just a numbers game and to wait.

A couple of other things noteworthy they do not offer opportunity majors program this year. If it gets to your students spot to get off waitlist for TAMU they will try to offer 1st major choice if full will go to 2nd choice and if full they will contact the student and offer admissions for other majors available before moving to next student on the waitlist.

I hope this helps someone.

TEAM said they hope to have their students notified in March BUT suggested if you wanted to go straight TEAM to discuss with other admissions which we did and they said didn’t affect the both as notes above. TEAM felt TEAM was a great opportunity and the advisor was awesome.

That’s really helpful info. I posted a response on Reddit about this. This sounds like a change from prior years. Wish I would have known because we went Blinn only and now Blinn isn’t good for my daughter’s major. TEAM is great for most but I wish we could switch to waitlist. We also should have researched better. I actually did read the change of major requirements but somehow I didn’t completely get it at the time. She has other schools but TAMU is really the best of course!

My only problem with their comment on waiting for people to accept or decline offers is that it makes no sense. They have NEVER done anything like that. They offer X amount to yield X amount. It’s a formula. Can’t imagine they are literally swapping one for another for full admissions.

And while they aren’t calling it opportunity major… that’s literally what it is. Whatever is left open… you choose from.
