Interested in the housing discussion group too! My daughter also wants to rush!
@austinmomlv , what @RachelMTAMU94 said.
Fraternity rush is totally different. It’s smaller, not ‘organized’ - no formal recs needed, no dedicated rush week (like sorority rush).
Men’s orgs are VERY popular, also. They are local to A&M, not national.
Definitely try to make connections with guys this summer.
Definitely interested in joining a housing group!
Congratulations to everyone hearing back! Someone on Reddit got an update today with the major listed as General University. Last time, that was an indication of Opportunity Majors. So that would be great if we also see some of those.
Thank you so much for this. I do know that most of the boys in the older grades at his hs that ran in the same sports and circle all rush one particular frat and the boys in our neighborhood at the public hs rush a different frat and he knows boys in both so he will have a place to start for sure. I just didn’t know if it was formal in terms of parent meetings or stuff like that! My daughter is at trinity and they have local sororities and my husband went there as well in a local frat so we are kind of clueless on the big school stuff! He can put out some feelers on snap if he wants I guess! Going to let him drive that bus if it’s all super informal!
Picked both options and just saw a change to Blinn Team, like a few others.
In 5+ years, I’ve never heard of ‘General University’ anything. There’s General Studies, and used to be University Studies (that has been phased out).
Last year, people who had their major changed to “General University” got the Opportunity Majors program.
Here is what I will look at online tomorrow from everyone’s last posts:
ParkWest
12 North
Callaway House - has meal plan, a little more party-ish (My kid may need this to meet people)
Callaway Villas
Northpoint Crossing
Cambridge Hall - Odd Sketchy, closed last year
Modulars? Hullabaloo? -loud train sounds
The Standard - May be higher in price
@Aggies1997 Modular’s and Hullabaloo are dorms on campus, the most popular dorms. Take those off your list.
I’d also add:
Aspire
REV Northgate
Warehouse and Factory
Berkeley House
Before you sign a lease, I would tour in person.
Love hearing good news - fingers crossed 7 tabs tomorrow. I know they’re already on a housing waitlist. Anyone have any idea if there’s any chance of getting off the housing waitlist for the ones that may get in this week? I know someone with earlier housing deposit can “pull” someone lower in the list in but you can’t be on waitlist. Should we assume there is no chance at housing for these getting in this week? I saw that spreadsheet posted before but I feel like it’s not applicable to this crazy year. It said there were still Modulars for early March deposits.
Northside Modular’s and Hullabaloo fill within 1-3 days.
Those on WaitList can not be pulled up, best they can hope for is to make it to Temp List.
It is late, and dorms filled even earlier this year.
I would look off campus at this point.
How sure are we that Major Change = admission?
It’s indicative of what’s happened in years past.
To be safe, tho, I’d still want to see those 7 tabs, have a link to register for NSC…
The Standard is actually a great price! Less than The Rev & Aspire and my daughter actually liked the layout of the 4x4 better and signed with friends!
I’ve been doing A LOT of online research while waiting for some good news. I’m sharing my ‘short list’ and would love to know if my calculations are in the ballpark if any parents already have kids here. I realize some of these are 10-12 month leases, but I tried to calculate the expense by semester for budgeting purposes and will need to add cost of food + dining plan/dollars.
Callaway House seems to be the most expensive by far starting at $8500/semester but includes all utilities and meals
Cambridge Hall - Starting at $4980/sem and includes all utilities (except electric) and meals
Park West - Starting at $4140/sem and includes all utilities
12 North - Starting at $4560/sem and includes internet/trash
Callaway Villas - Starting at $4524/sem and includes internet/trash
Campus Village - Starting at $2850/sem and includes all utilities except electric
What is opportunity Majors program?
https://catalog.tamu.edu/undergraduate/appendices/opportunity-majors/
40 hours with 3.75+ GPA one can pick majors outside the list.
When I checked Callaway House it looked like it was around 30K a year including meals. I’m wondering if I was calculating wrong. Callaway Villas was quite a bit lower.
Except for maybe Callaway House and Cambridge, all others will be 12 month lease.
Parking will be an added cost at almost all places.
