Texas A&M Class of 2028 Official Thread

I agree I think PSA however when we spoke to Admissions counselor before they said BIMS not a good fit for PSA and to consider backup University

Does she have other back-up schools?

Yes she got offered CAP at UT and TXST not sure what she will do yet

@52AG82, is Galveston’s Oceans and One Health a major that a student could complete a year and change majors to BIMS?

Yes, make sure your student has the required classes at TAMU

Change of Major | Texas A&M University College of Arts and Sciences Take all 5 CBK classes and do not claim AP credit. Stronger applicants take Math 151 and Math 152 instead of Math 142 and STAT 201. Any DC credit in those 5 CBK (with no choice but to transfer ) may weaken the change of major chance so student may have to take tougher classes to improve chances.

At TAMUG, BIOL 112 is not required for Oceans and One Health but they do offer that class and your student can take BIOL 112 as “Life and Physical Science” core curriculum. Oceans & One Health - Texas A&M Galveston, TX

MARB/MARS classes offered in Galveston are all excellent classes. (Cost to Tuition ratio)

So, that might be an option for @NewtsMom to investigate with her student. :+1:

This is not what was said earlier in the thread. DS has a gateway offer that would put him in general studies. Earlier posters said it is nearly impossible to transfer into Mays - they take 100 transfers in a year and unless you have a 4.0 you won’t get a shot.

So, if this isn’t true, please provide some details. It’s important that this is known, and agreed to here, so that applicants can make informed decisions. TIA.

I said it’s possible and it absolutely is. Coming from a degree plan that allows you to take some courses that are required to transfer to Mays. And you have to have 30 TAMU credits in order to apply. I believe you can be in the same semester of finishing up those credits but it’s best to have it completed in my opinion with a strong GPA.

Also my son had a 3.83 and all As and 1 B in the required courses. He was accepted within one day of applying to change major.

I’m happy to help you look through the requirements to see the best route to position yourself for Change to Mays. As well as position yourself for 2 desired choice

My friend’s daughter, close family friend, got her Whoop! Congratulations for Blinn Team today! Crazy that she has been waiting for it since she selected Blinn Team only end of January. So happy for her.

@PepperMilo no one has said it is impossible to change into Mays, coming off Gateway…but it won’t be easy. Student needs to have a plan, start out taking classes that count towards Mays change of major (don’t accept any AP credits before meeting with advisor) and need to have a 3.9-4.0 (4.0 in required Mays classes).

We have a friend that started out in Gateway; she was in Mays by her sophomore year. It IS doable…but requires planning and a 3.9 - 4.0.

This is the information that has been said consistently.

I have no idea how hard TAMU grades, but at some colleges a 4.0 for 2 or more semesters is not within reach of most students taking serious courses. Again, perhaps the grading at TAMU puts most in that range. That would be good to know ahead of time.

@PepperMilo A&M isn’t easy. A 3.9-4.0 will be tough to get, especially the Mays required classes.
Good news for General Studies, they take all classes at A&M. Blinn TEAM students take required Mays classes at Blinn…and often those are only offered in 8 week sessions, making them very fast paced. (@FriscoDad has stats on recent TEAM students who applied for Mays).

Econ isn’t easy for anyone. It is always online-at least ECON 202 & 203.
If student is a strong math student, then Math 140 and 142 shouldn’t be hard; if they’re not strong, those classes could be tough, especially Math 142.
Acct 229 is tough for most.

My Mays student never took a class that curved…so don’t expect any curves. A&M is filled with over-achieving, wickedly smart & driven students…which pretty much kill curves🤣

Student needs to be focused, have strong study skills and know how to prioritize studying vs social. Seek tutoring early, if needed.

Again…it won’t be EASYbeing brutally honest… but it can be done.

My daughter’s friend who went test optional and chose to be considered for waitlist and TEAM got PSA today. She was top 11% at their large, competitive high school. That blows my mind!

@Txflowers when did she apply, and what majors?

Has anyone from the 3 options Team received the poster and acceptance letter already?

Early September. Communications.

@PepperMilo On getting to Mays (internal transfer) that it is best to discuss strategies with @Christi1993

For TEAM, two years ago TEAM contract for Mays GPA raised to 3.8 at both TAMU and Rellis. The requirement is very tough consider Howdy forces TEAM student to take Math 140/142 and ACCT229/230 at Blinn Rellis. The teachers at Rellis are good, but those four classes are 8 weeks. A few years back the barrier was 3.5.

GDR shows a supposedly simple online ECON202 with low percentage of students getting A (20-30%). While claiming the classes away via AP will not favor the students in transfer holistic review. For TEAM students if they have AP scores 4-5 in Macro and Micro ECON, one will need to hold off claiming AP credits until securing 3.8+ GPA in both TAMU and Blinn in sophomore year.

Still consult with @Christi1993 and find students successfully transition to Mays in last year how they get it done.

Does Blinn publish GDR too?
