No he didn’t. The Galveston Advisor told him that since he was applying Engineering to just apply to CS since his application would be reviewed by CS AOs. Plus, he listed Food Science as his second choice of majors. We mulled this over quite a bit, but the Galveston Advisor’s advice won out.
I feel like that is not the best advice. If your son is interested in going to Galveston, then by all means apply there. If it is not too late, I would definitely submit an application for Galveston. Galveston has a much higher admission rate than CS and I know several kids that have already been accepted to Galveston but are still waiting on CS. Those kids want to end up in CS but will spend the first year in Galveston and then transition to CS if they do not get direct acceptance to CS.
Thank you for your input. I’m afraid we should have disregarded his direction. I think I will call Galveston this afternoon. They’re still taking applications, but I’m not sure whether he could apply for Engineering.
If you go through the link above, some majors such as Marine Biology, Maritime BA, Marine Engineering Technology are offered directly at TAMUG.
For the 4 engineering offer via ETAM, you can still apply via TAMUG. In ApplyTexas, you will need to select TAMUG and one of the four engineering majors.
Right - their website lays out two options to apply to Engineering. Son chose applying to CS for various reasons. Our conundrum is whether he would get a decision faster applying to Galveston. Of course, we should have asked months ago.
Thank you! I think the Galveston Admissions Advisor was right that all engineering applications go through the same process. I listed Galveston as my preferred location.
My son had 1st choice Mays up until today, now seeing 2nd choice as 1st. So it sounds like a decision has been made. Since Mays is no longer in the list does that mean he for sure won’t be admitted to Mays? I understand Mays may be full, but is there still a chance or when 2nd choice major shows up as first that means Mays decision is a no?
1480 SAT, top 25%
With school being let out for the winter break does anyone know if admissions continues to process acceptances or are they shut down until classes resume in Jan?
He applied right at the deadline I think, so December 1st. AIS still doesn’t show anything formal other than the 2nd choice moving to 1st, but Howdy portal overview does show his 2nd choice under Curriculum Information (Arts and Sciences - Econ).
Mays was most likely full by November, if not end of October. If your son had applied in August, he probably would’ve gotten into Mays.
Econ is a great major! He can always try to change majors to Mays-will need a 3.9-4.0, follow the change of major course guideline and timeline carefully. He should mention it to advisor at NSC (assuming he decides to attend A&M), and take courses accordingly.
*don’t accept any AP credits (yet)! Mays caps change of major at 60 hours.
Son got accepted to A&M this morning, but to his second choice major BS Financial Planning in the department of agricultural economics
His First choice major was May’s business School for Finance
Anyone has info on BS financial planning major
@Olympus3091 Mays is full, no Wait List.
I’m not familiar with BS Financial Planning, but the Ag School is fantastic! AgBusiness and AgEcon are super popular majors, so I feel confident the Financial Planning is solid.
Lots of great opportunities in Ag College + they have great advising.
Congrats!
