According to FAFSA website, 2024-25 opens in December (doesn’t say exact date, but perhaps it is already open?).
Always good to check websites directly.

Are you asking about outside/local scholarships or A&M specific?
You will not get A&M $, unless NMSF, high achieving student from an identified Century Scholar school, member of Corps/FTAB, or perhaps a VERY outstanding auto admit student with an incredible resume.
If not one of these, don’t plan on getting any scholarship $ from A&M, as an incoming freshman.

That makes sense. Thank you :+1:t3: It’s more for my friend. Seems like scholarship $$$ is usually for tuition only and not for Housing. Is that correct? This would pertain to a&m or outside scholarship $$.

There is the Aggie Assurance program which does assure students receive enough scholarships and grants to pay for tuition for low and middle income families.

Just depends on the scholarship.
Here’s the link for 2023-24 Scholarship handbook, to give you an idea (might be slight changes for next year, but not much).

The way scholarship monies go at most schools (I used to work for a UT system school as a scholarship coordinator) is the school will award up to the cost of attendance. (COA) if a student has a grant, a loan, outside scholarship monies, institutional scholarship monies etc. and housing is placed on their bill, then all of those funds will go to take care of any bill balance- tuition/fees, housing, meal plans and so on…. If there are remaining funds and no stipulations then remaining money is refunded to student.

Very true. It is working the same this year as it has for the past couple of years. There are many acceptances before Christmas break, but many - probably the majority - of kids won’t hear back until mid-January to mid-March. I don’t know if they have more applicants this year or not, but everything seems to be working normally. At my class of '26 student’s NSC, they told us they had over 60k (close to 70k) applicants for that admission cycle.

If you are counting on Aggie Assurance to provide a big chunk of money, then you will likely be disappointed. A couple of families we know qualified for that program but were only given $500 in aid.

Has anybody heard anything back for history majors? If so stats? thank you!

I understand. We’re not counting on it. We’re not eligible. But just providing that info for anyone who is and replying to the comment that a&M doesn’t give scholarships except to super high achievers because they also do to low and mid income admitted students via the Aggie Assurance program.

Texas A&M University has provided tuition support since 2008, by pledging tuition coverage to low- and middle-income families through the Aggie Assurance commitment. For students whose family income is $60,000 or less, tuition will be covered by grants and/or scholarships.

Beginning Fall of 2021, the Aggie Assurance commitment was expanded to provide tuition support grants for undergraduate students whose family income is greater than $60,000 but no more than $130,000. Tuition support grants range from $500 - $1,500 based on income and financial need.

As a further expansion to the Aggie Assurance commitment, beginning Fall of 2023, we will be pledging to provide coverage of both tuition and fees for students whose family income is $60,000 or less. Additionally, students enrolled in a degree-seeking program at College Station, Galveston, or the Health Science Center will be considered for Aggie Assurance. Tuition support grants will continue to be available only to students enrolled at Texas A&M University-College Station.

I am an international from China and applied for aerospace engineering. I failed to complete my application for EA deadline (12/15) due to an expired language test score. Now Tamu told me that I will receive my reply between January and March. Seems that I am automatically deferred. Is there a big difference between EA and RD application? I really love this school.

They essentially pushed ALL engineering apps to RD. You are with everyone else!

What housing will be available for late admits, or TEAM admits? You can’t sign up for housing until admitted, so I am curious if any on campus housing options are available for the Jan-Mar admits. Or maybe have to use off campus options?

You should look at off campus options but late admits can still find housing in different ways. For instance, if they find a roommate who has an earlier deposit time, the earlier roommate pulls the later one up. Not all of the top 10% students are going to room with each other or even on campus. :sunglasses:

My son was offered the TEAM option 2 years ago the last week of January, and luckily his best friend was top 10%. They got a room in Hullabaloo. I’m telling my younger son to start looking for someone with a good time slot so if/when he gets admitted, they will get a good dorm

@TamFam like @Lavalocks19 & @LaFinalista have mentioned, anyone paying Housing deposit from this point on will be WAY down the dorm selection list. Students can roommate ‘match’, and the student with the highest selection date ‘pulls’ up the other.

There’s also a cut off date when dorms are guaranteed. It has been the first week in March, but last year was around the 3rd week in February. If a student gets admitted after the guaranteed date, they go on Wait List-no option to ‘match’ with a roomie.

I would definitely NOT pay a deposit anywhere off campus, until student has gotten admission-you’ll be on the hook to pay for a full year. There is plenty of off campus housing.

@52AG82 @Lavalocks19 @LaFinalista Good tips on a roommate “pulling you up”, I hadn’t been aware of that possibility. We’d really like her to live on campus, she was accepted to Texas Tech early and we already reserved a very nice on campus dorm there - while A&M is a bit of an unknown. I know my daughter would want A&M if fortunate enough to be selected, but I’d consider it a loss if she lost out on the living on campus experience. Maybe I give it too much weight based on my own experiences. Thanks again for the feedback.
