Texas A&M Class of 2029 Official Thread

Looks like student 1 got Mays back in October under holistic review. That’s amazing. Congrats if i didn’t already say that back then.

How does student 2 compare and what major are the thinking?

Second son has similar stats (but not as high SAT). He too would like Mays. Im anticipating our wait will be longer this next year.

Hopefully he’s taking prep courses for SAT/ACT and retaking this spring and summer?!

Have him do the Kahn Academy SAT prep course and take practice tests. They are 100% free! My son did that for the 2 weeks between end of school and SAT day and went from a 1230 on first practice test to a 1480 on his one an only time taking the SAT. He dedicated the entire 2 weeks to studying and nothing else. The grind paid off big time!

wow, that’s awesome! I have a 10th grader who will doing some prep this summer but I’m not sure if she should be doing PSAT prep since she’ll be taking that in the fall or SAT prep? Or is it all the same material? My current senior took the ACT

Folks - i am trying to decide between
Texas A&M - TEAB Engineering program (in-state) vs.
Rutgers Engineering program (Honors Program, 10K$ fin aid, out-state)

Any inputs will be appreciated

SAT prep will also prepare her for PSAT! We used Khan as well. Sons both took May SAT, studied using Khan over the summer, then took SATs to practice more for Oct PSAT. Both are National Merit Commended!

He is…scheduled for June and doing SAT prep

If it were my kid, I’d go Rutgers-assuming you can afford it. Direct admit & Honors is awesome!

Great! If he’s not auto admit, he really needs a 1450+, and great resume, gpa, rank etc, to be competitive for Mays.

Did your child get EH? Mine did not. They must have had a really great application pool!

My son is on a similar boat, not decided yet and would like to hear some suggestions. The differences are
both TAMU and Rutgers are out state.
TAMU is General Engineer (for everybody) at College Station, no Scholarship. Rutgers is the Honor College with 10$K.

Admission of Rutgers is by school, not major, you need to claim a major in Sophomore. So basically you don’t have major for both TAMU and Rutgers, but Rutgers seems easier.

Mine didn’t either. They must have! He has a good attitude about it and will reapply later.

Mine did get it but she has already made the decision to go to another school - it seemed strange they waited so late to let kids know because it was definitely a factor in decision making

Hi everybody, I am looking for apartment for my son to start at College Station. Do you have any closed to school? He will go to Engineer, so closed to Engineering building is preferred. Thanks for your help.

Lots of Engineering Classes are near Northgate, so the Rev, 12 North, Otto and others near Century Square would be good. Park West is far (on the other side of campus), but it is on the bus route - Park West helps with roommate matching and is a popular spot for kids who are willing to go potluck. And there are several facebook and instagram pages with posts about sub-lease and roommate opportunities. Your son (and you) should join and search those. Lots of folks are looking to fill a spot for the Fall or connect with a roommate. Google “apartments near Northgate in College Station” and you’ll get a good sense of pricing and availability.

The rise. Aspire. Stacks are directly across from engineering. Then there are a lot more in northgate behind the bar scene.
