Texas A&M Class of 2029 Official Thread

We are wrapping up the Fightin’ Aggie Class of 2028 application cycle and it’s time to move on to the Hopeful Class of 2029. The 2028 cycle continued to be competitive for all majors. On this thread, you’ll be able to ask any and all questions to fellow hopeful parents, parents who just went through this process, prior students of diverse decisions/pathways and others like me who just like to give back with support, info, advice etc.

So here we go. Assuming Applications open on the 1st of August, get your student ready. Letters of Recs, Transcripts, EC listings, Resumes, Test scores, and essays! It’s never too early to get started on what you can. Don’t wait 'til August to write the essay or ask for references.

Also, early bird does get the worm at TAMU. If you are applying to Mays, get your app in early (aug/sep) even if you are auto admit. It will fill up. Engineering early decision has been October 15th. You’ll want to make that deadline. You can always continue to send in test scores throughout the application process. Closes early December.

Ready, set, go! Best of luck and Gig 'em!

Thank you!

When will the essay prompt for this next cycle be available, or is it the same one from last year? Same for short answer questions. Hoping to use summer to get everything prepared so can be ready to go come August!

They typically don’t change if any for the big essay. The short answer questions do tho and they may remove one.

I’ll look around today to see if there are any indicators of what it will look like but may be too early.

They haven’t listed the 2024 prompt but I’m sure they by end of May. Will have plenty of time to write essay. I’d make sure you guys have listed all the ECs over the 3 years and leadership, jobs, travel, etc. Anything that help them stand out. Also note if it’s elected position.

Remember GPA/Rank and test scores are the biggest piece of acceptance.

Thank you!

This is a very nit picky question—but for the auto admit top 10%, could it be anywhere between 10.0% and 10.99%? For large size classes that could make a difference for several students!

Top 10.00%

Question about submitting scores and TO. Would you recommend submitting a score that’s comparatively “low” (think 1260 SAT/ 29 ACT) for being in the top 3-4 % and taking pretty much all AP/DC/honors courses or skip submitting and go TO. Student will be taking tests again so score could improve. Wanting to apply to Mays and perhaps Business Honors (even though that may be a long shot) if that makes a difference!

Are you saying they’re automatic too 10%? If so? Then test score is irrelevant for Mays. But if you’re not auto admit then I’d submit the 29 ACT for sure. It’s solid. Not a guarantee but a good score.

May fills up quickly with mainly auto admits so regardless of ranking… apply first week of August.

sorry to not being clear, yes top 10 auto admit (if all continues to go well for the rest of this year of course!) Good to know 29 is solid.

We’ve heard that about Mays! She plans to apply right away come August, but we’ll have to wait for school counselor to send the transcripts to verify top 10% and they don’t get back on campus until first week in August so hope that doesn’t delay things. I think she can get them from her school portal but not sure if they are official enough to be submitted? Someone on another forum/group mentioned they uploaded transcripts themselves vs waiting for the school. one question of mine just leads to another, lol! thanks for all your help with this!

Once her app is in with her designating top 10% they’ll deem it as such. When school sends in transcript in August/sept they’ll flip the switch and she’ll be fine for Mays. I have no idea on honors except that it’s highly competitive and a 29 probably won’t cut it so I’m glad she’s doing it again.

They accepted into Mays into early November this past cycle.

Great news! I know that getting into Mays will be a huge accomplishment in and of itself with how competitive it is. This time last month I was completely cluess not really thinking about it all until we visited the campus and since then have been researching/learning about this process!

If you think you will be named an NMSF, do yourself a favor and apply super early. And fill out the scholarship application and get the letters of recommendation at the same time. Nothing official says you have to do this, but some of us think you won’t be considered for certain competitive scholarships if you wait till closer to the deadlines to submit. At the least, it can’t hurt. (file this in the urban legend category). Good luck Class of 2029! Right behind you with a Class of 2030 Mays hopeful!

I’m glad you did. Many auto admits don’t realize that certain majors fill up mid fall and they wait til deadline to submit because they know they’ll get in. Imagine the sadness when they realize they’ll be majoring in underwater basket weaving lol

My son would like to try for engineering honors. My oldest just got into Business Honors. Is EH awesome like BH? I couldn’t find a thread about it. Anybody have experience with EH?

One more question. Can one of you gurus tell me all of the pathways into Mays? Is it regular admission or transfer only? I can’t remember if they have a Blinn option.

There is a Blinn guaranteed pathway (at least still have it for the current cycle). It’s extremely difficult.. 3.8 gpa all the way around, 60 hours, certain courses, etc.

I know nothing about EH but maybe @FriscoDad can share his insight.

Mays is only super competitive for holistic kids. For auto-admit kids, it is first come, first-served, so if your child is in the top 10% and applies in early August, they will definitely get in.

Engineering honor has early registration, special job and career fairs and events, international research internship preferences and Howdy’s financial aid portal at times will give little surprises grants based on GPA performance. It will take 3.5+ GPA to maintain the status. About 60% freshmen honor students fall off the requirement after sophomore year.
