Texas A&M Class of 2029 Official Thread

If our student took On-ramp classes our school is telling us we have to get those sent from UT. Is this something that needs to be done during the application for admission process or is that later with final transcripts at the end of senior year?

good point… that’s extra pressure! So homeschoolers just go through holistic review and are SAT/ACTs more important?

They’ll actually use score to potentially put them in top 10%. Hard to get but possible. Most home schoolers get assigned top quarter.

So yes, scores are so important. As well as any dual credit.

Not familiar with on ramp classes…

If the OnRamps classes are only in senior year, just mention in SRAR. No transcript needed until after high school graduation.

If OnRamps classes are between 9th to 11th grade, yes the transcript is required. Your student can send between June and August via utdirect. Some OnRamps classes have TCCNS equivalency.

In general, if the TCCNS equivalent is not in your TAMU degree plan, students can go ahead take as many as they want. Because TAMU students normally need those easy classes to boost their TAMU GPA.

@Bb49 BH (Business Honors) most likely impossible if TO. A 29 ACT won’t cut it for BH either-most BH are NMSF, Commended or VERY high scores.
But admission to Mays will definitely happen, as auto admit, given student has application complete in August.

Yes! I recommend taking the SAT or ACT several times. Take AP to show rigor. Have a perfect/near perfect GPA. I have my own kids take several leadership positions as well for ECs.

Thankfully both of my sons have been National Merit Commended too!

Know any stats or other helpful info for getting in?

My son will not be auto admit. Scored 1420 for his 1st SAT in March. Highest rigor at his private school. Will take again in June. Does he have any chance for Mays or Honors (I did not realise auto-admit do not have to go through review like UT).

I think he has a good shot for Mays if applies early and is top 25%. As for business honors… Will definitely need to bring up that SAT score.

Good to know. Thank you!

@ljs1 1420 is a solid score, and should get him into Mays-as long as he has strong course rigor, is close to Top 10%…and applies in August.
It’ll all depend on how many auto admits apply/get accepted to Mays ahead of him tho.

I strongly encourage taking SAT and ACT again, trying to up the score.

Not a chance for BH, if not auto admit, top 1-4%, and NMS/fF/Commended or very high scores.

In case you’re curious..
On ramps are similar to dual credit but the biggest difference is that the student can choose whether to keep the college credit/grade on their college transcript, and they are through UT vs a community college.

Thank you! She did take some last year and this year so that is helpful to know to get those transcripts sent.

He is all set to take the SAT again in June which should bring his score up. He definitely has the rigor. He will apply to UT also, as they have reintroduced the SAT, which might be more beneficial if A&M remains TO.

I was curious so thank you. Very interesting.

Most high school top 10% with good scores can be accepted as freshmen, so engineer honor class for freshmen can be large. Then shrink in second years onwards.

Does anyone know if admissions will use a 5.0 GPA or if they translate it to 4?

They go by ranking not GPA.

For unranked students- they just use the test score to create rank? I know that’s what they do for homeschoolers.
