I have a top 10 auto-admit, who tanked on his first SAT attempt (he’ll take it again for scholarships, etc). He will be applying to Mays.
Should he submit his app with no score or should he put it anyway? Will definitely be submitting early.
Ooh great question. I’m not sure about this since he wants to submit for scholarships, I don’t think he can apply test optional and then send over scores later for scholly. And I don’t think you can apply with scores and not submit at time of app to have your application considered complete. What I do know is you can turn in scores up til Dec and schollys are awarded after the beginning of the year.
Surely someone on here will know the answer to this. But bottom line he needs to apply in August for Mays just in case it fills up. We know by November it’s full typically (that’s not the apply date, that’s the last admittance date).
Thank you for the response. Regardless of scholarships he wants Mays, so I guess the best overall option is to apply early August with score (for a complete app), then try to submit new scores up until December.
Hope y’all are having a good weekend! This was posted by Wendy Andreen, college career planning on FB. Many have copied and pasted it in other places so thought I’d share here for those that haven’t seen it. I keep hearing/seeing comments that the numbers of applicants “since covid” have drastically increased but wondering what the correlation is between post-covid and increase in applicants? I understand if the numbers decreased during covid years. Or is just that more people have moved to Texas so our population is increasing!
“With over 65k applicants and a reduction of freshman class size, the admission cycle proved to be extremely competitive. “
*24,700 were offered full admission
(20% auto admission top 10)
*375 offered Aggie Gateway
* 1,000 offered Blinn Team
* 500 offered Engineering Blinn
* 500 offered Engineering in Galveston
* 19,000 offered PSA
@FriscoDad here’s the post, with all the stats.
And you are correct, the posted 20% isn’t accurate, based on comments in the thread (that is NOT written in the post…something @Bb49 added).
@FriscoDad are you saying you think that could have included graduates in the 65k app stat?
I’m reading it as 65k applied for freshman apps. Of that ONLY 24k were accepted? That makes zero sense. That’s too low.
And yes I’m rounding.
Tamu has always had an acceptance rate of 60 plus % so I’m confused by Wendy’s info. Frisco… I trust what you say. You tend to be spot on when it comes to data!
Has their typical 60 percent acceptance rate typically been only for direct admits or has that included all the pathways–gateway, team blinn etc? Either way that is a big drop if 24K is accurate.
We are signed up to attend one of the virtual admission/info sessions this week so will be interested to see if they share any stats or if we can ask.
And if the 60 plus percent is all gateways, I would guess that PSA isn’t included since zero access to anything at Tamu until complete requirements. I feel it would be way higher percent if psa was included.
Because PSA + admission total usually very close to undergrad total applicants, that will be 19K+24.7K = 43K. Every year less than 1K of incomplete application.
Holistic admission rate should be calculated by (Holistic admitted / Holistic applied), adding the auto-admit will be skewing the data. Last 5 cycles below, from 2021 onwards about 48%
Question about letters of rec. Do they need to be given directly to the student to upload with their app, or can the student enter in the teacher contact info/email address and then teacher submits them directly? Mine has already asked a couple of teachers for letters.
Is taking the ACT an option? Totally understand if it isn’t! Mine is top 10 percent wanting Mays too and has done better on the ACT than SAT and I think there is another ACT coming up in June.
oh I guess my post does read as if I am asking the question, lol. But I was just asking if @99_Brock_Ag 's student had the option of taking the ACT since they weren’t happy with their SAT scores as I know they can take either!
