Texas A&M Class of 2029 Official Thread

That is confusing… everything I’ve seen also says end of Junior year/before application deadline.
I’ve seen some people post in a FB group that they have already sent transcripts to verify rank. I didn’t even think those could be sent before the application was submitted? Now I feel behind already, with waiting until August 1st, lol.

I wonder if it’s because you mentioned there being summer classes so they need those to be included in their rank since those classes are technically part of junior year? Our transcripts and ranks were done in June and won’t change again until after fall semester so does seem weird to have to wait. Curious for what the experienced people here have to say on it all!

Summer grades are included in auto-admit law. The exact law is top 10% before application deadline, which is December 1st.

My son is planning to apply to 1) TAMU and 2) three schools outside of Texas. TAMU is his first choice. Should he apply only via the Common App and submit to all schools? Or should he use Apply Texas (b/c A&M uses the Apply Texas Essay A) for his TAMU application and the Common App for the others?

My daughter applied to Texas A&M using Apply Texas and then she applied to all non-Texas schools using the Common App and it worked out great, but if there is no harm in using the Common App for TAMU and it reduces the work/stress, then I’ll tell my son not to bother with Apply Texas. My gut tells me that Apply Texas is “better” for TAMU admission, but I have no actual evidence to support that feeling.

Common App’s first launch was quite messy as expected. But if one applies early, it really doesn’t matter. As long as everything shows up correctly in AIS by end of August, either platform is fine.

Hi, are the short answer prompts the same prompts from last year?

Yes. Same as last year. This is from the Application Tips section of TAMU’s website - College Readiness | Admissions - Admissions (tamu.edu)

As part of the application, prospective students will be required to answer the following short answer questions. The questions allow students to share more of their personal experiences. As the name indicates, responses should be short and concise. Typical length ranges from a few sentences to a paragraph.

Short Answer Questions

  • Describe a life event which you feel has prepared you to be successful in college.
  • Tell us about the person who has most impacted your life and why.
  • If there are additional personal challenges, hardships, or opportunities (including COVID related experiences) that have shaped or impacted your abilities or academic credentials, which you have not already written about, please note them in the space below.

#2 is aka the grandparent question to admissions officers

No Engineering essay anymore. Interesting.

There is still an Engineering Essay.

For non-engineers, applicants have to answer one long - Apply Texas Essay A and the short answer questions.
Engineering applicants have to do all of that, plus the Engineering Essay - Apply Now | Texas A&M University Engineering (tamu.edu)

Trying to get clarification from TAMU because the main page says:

Engineering Short Answer Question: NOTE – this is NOT a part of the freshman application effective August 1, 2024.

But engineering page says there’s an essay.

Do freshman applicants need to send dual college transcripts at the time of application, or just high school transcript to verify top 10% for auto admit? I realize the transcript eventually has to be sent to claim credit, but not sure if it needs to be sent to fulfill and application.

Yes it is needed to complete the application. There will be a green check in AIS once they receive it.

Right but DS didn’t take any summer classes, my concern is more that other kids did and his rank will likely drop. The registrar said rank is recalculate on August 30th, so as long as he applies before that he should be fine.

Does anyone know what the word limit is for the scholarship questions? And does anyone know what they are yet or do we have to wait for August 1st?

My class of ‘27 nephew didn’t get into Economics major from opportunity major despite 3.9 GPA first year.

me again with another question.

Mine is trying to complete/submit the SRAR (not link it as she knows she can’t link it until app is submitted, but just trying to sign/submit it as complete vs being in edit mode) but isn’t able to and gets this message:

***** Note: *****
Final submission of your academic record cannot be completed until your senior year in high school. Anything that you have entered up to this point has been saved. If you are seeing this message and are currently in your last year of high school, visit the Enter Schools section to update your high school graduation year.

Anyone have any idea why? The dates are all accurate. Graduating May 2025. Unless senior year doesn’t start until August? she said she submitted a help request to them so hopefully hears back soon.

if I remember correctly from my '27 student, that will rectify itself on/after Aug. 1.

Thank you, that’s what I thought was likely the case but good to hear!

She heard back from SRAR support this morning and they confirmed the same about August 1st to submit.

Confirmed with Admissions. No more Engineering short answer.

I’m confused about which question they mean by the Engineering short answer. Is that the one that only opens in a separate tab when you check “Engineering” as a major…it was a 500 word limit I think?
