I think they say at the Admissions session that they won’t look at a resume. Anyone else know?
I have a vague recollection of hearing that but I’m not sure now, and I see where the Common App has a place to upload one.
Common App is open btw!
Once you submit your common app application to Texas A&M, how long does it take to get access to the AIS system so you can upload the official transcript for Texas top 10% verification?
random question- but did anyone else have issues with apply texas not allowing a copy/paste from google docs for the essays? if said there were non ASCII characters in it even thought there were not. he went ahead and just retyped it all (which fixed the issue) but was wondering what caused it.
ETA: and now it deleted everything and he has to start all over, including typing the essays. sigh. anyone else having issues?
ETA #2: figured out the ASCII situation. he had used italics. hope that helps someone.
The culprit(s) might be “smart” (curly) quotation marks/apostrophes and em dashes (long) and en dashes (medium). If he used those, just fix that, and he can probably avoid retyping the whole thing.
For those of you who haven’t started yet and are on the fence between using Apply Texas and Common App, be aware that Apply Texas overhauled their system this summer and might continue to have some issues.
We weren’t aware of it until our high school counseling office sent their email newsletter and there was a little note in there about Apply Texas “experiencing delays in processing applications” and recommended using Common App instead.
Good Luck everyone in getting those apps in. Can’t believe we are already in August.
Please remember…. You get into the University first and then put into your major if there is still room. This means, early bird gets the worm. And that’ll carry over into everything at Tamu. Please note that engineering goes through a second review (holistic). The student is not guaranteed a spot in Eng even if they are top 10%. So, best foot forward on every app.
Last cycle, Tamu started notifying top 10% in late August (I believe). Holistic review candidates will be later. Much later. Majority will hear by end of January with alternative pathways as well being sent in Jan/feb along with the dreaded options choice. We’ll deal with that later!
Set your expectations now (if holistic). The process is a long process for most. Apply and forget about it once you see that you have all green check marks (in applicant information system AIS). If you hear before Christmas, it’s literally a gift. If you want people to “chance you” on here, be ready for a real answer but know that we don’t really know… just basing off prior years.
Every cycle throws us curve balls. So be ready to pivot your mindset and lean on your patience. Kindness only on this thread, please. Everyone has the same goal… to be a member of the Fightin Aggie Class of 2029!!! Whoop.
Did anyone who used Apply Texas get to pay with the application within Apply Texas? I thought I remembered with my '27 son that we paid with the application. This morning, Apply Texas said the fee would be collected from the school and that instructions would be sent via email. well, looking at TAMU’s site, it says Apply Texas will collect the fee. Really don’t care who collects it, just want to make sure it gets paid so his application goes through.
Just to be clear, do auto admits who are applying to engineering hear something from A&M BEFORE their engineering review? This is our second time around but first time as auto admit.
Yes mam. They’ll tell them Whoop you’ve been admitted and then it’ll be followed by, you’re in Engineering review and you should hear… don’t hold breath.
But I’d say most auto’s now with good scores and rigor will hear back after the early action deadline vs. having to wait til January.
I’m curious about this. You hear it a lot but if you look at the AAE data for the last five years, 100% of those in the top 10% who apply are admitted. This is for College Station, College of Engineering. Am I missing something?
TIA
DLM
How/where do you find those charts? I tried googling but must not be using the correct terms.

It usually comes up with the college name and “AAE” or “AAE data” or “applied-admitted-enrolled”. As far as I know all the schools are supposed to have a version of this accessible.
The A&M link is:

That cannot be accurate. I’ve worked with students and have had top 10% not have the right score or rigor and receive alternative pathway like team or Galveston OR choice of different major.
That chart has to include System Admits. They have Engineering outside the Top 10% with a 54% acceptance rate.
My 2nd son finished his application late tonight and sent it off. We sent off his SRAR and transcript as well tonight. Our oldest is in CS starting his sophomore year hoping to ETAM into EE next semester.
My 2nd is applying to Computing as his first choice. I’ve heard it’s a smaller program so I hope he can get accepted.
He is unranked but homeschooled with a 1520 SAT and 4.0 unweighted (with AP and DC credits) so we’re hoping there’s a chance he’ll get auto admit under the new law. But details on how it might work are confusing so who knows!
We don’t know much about the acceptance into computing, is it the same engineering review and then the major switches to computing instead of general engineering? Or does it go to general engineering and then computing after?
How did you submit the SRAR if you don’t have an AIS log in yet? The instructions say that you have to have a log in 3-4 days after you apply.
Our SRAR was able to be submitted without a UIN number from AIS. If I remember correctly from my older son, that usually comes a couple days after submitting the app.
For those who did apply Texas—did you get an email from tamu with instructions for application payment? With my older son we paid thru the apply Texas page but it is different now with the new updates to that site.
Good luck future Aggies!
