Welcome to the hopeful class of the Fightin’ Texas Aggie Class of 2030. In August, the application to apply to TAMU will open up. Use this forum to ask questions, answer questions, support each other through this process, and cheer fellow Aggies on as they get their decisions beginning in September. Just know… the wait for many can go into March or April of 2026, so hang in there!
Never too early to start this process. Get your Extra Curriculars with timelines and offices held, get on that essay after school ends, line up any Letters of Rec you may want (they only allow 2) and look into all the different majors you are interested in. Look at the degree plan, look at any extra requirements you’ll need (like ETAM for Engineering students). Unless you’re auto admit, familiarize yourself with the different pathways just in case. Have back up schools. Visit TAMU… it’s big. You may think you want it, but it may not be a fit for you and that’s okay.
Okay, carry on. Enjoy the rest of Junior year because it’s a fun one!

This group helped me so much with my last 2 Aggies and yet here I am again! Christi, you helped me so much in the past, going through this grueling process.
I am thankful you are still here. My youngest will be applying. Do you happen to know the essay topics? We haven’t seen them posted yet.

Welcome back to the chaos. To my knowledge, essay prompt did not change.

Where is the best place to learn all about Mays? FB group or somewhere else? Youngest is considering a business major and all my other kids were STEM majors so this is all new.
Mainly want to see if Mays is a good fit for dd’s particular goals.
Does she know what type of industry/area she wants to do? Accounting mgmt finance etc?
Is she automatic admit?
As for where to go… can’t get on most Tamu pages unless you’re enrolled or have child enrolled. Take a tour of campus and mays. Use Reddit for some info as well. My son was mgmt pre law and can help answer some questions if needed. There are others whose kids were or are in Mays as well that she can chat with I’m sure (on this site or their parents are)
Auto admit, she does not know what type of business yet. I have a current TAMU senior, just not in business. I will look to redit. We did a tour of Mays and Mays info session already.
Nice. She’ll need to apply early. Even auto admits need to get their apps in early. Sooner the better but by mid September should be safe.
Mays is a great school and many options of majors. Is she interested in business honors?

My son just received his class rank today. 10.5% out of 950 students at large 6A TX HS. What is the official percentage cutoff for auto admittance? Thanks
10.00%
But with this ranking of 10.5 should be enough to hear back in early fall depending on major.
Question. My kid will apply top 20% only, 3.98 unweighted, tons of honors & extracurriculars, first generation. SAT is 1160 & ACT is 25. Should they go test optional. I’ve seen so many parents say do not do this because they will assume they did poorly & I know both of these scores fall at A&M’s 25% range for admitted test scores. I’ve also read that test scores can’t hurt you & only help you if they’re good.
My theory is they can’t unsee the scores. Those are pretty low for Tamu admissions. I would go TO and ramp up the app to best showcase the student. With admissions decreasing acceptances, you should have a solid backup plan and also learn about alternatives to Tamu like Team.
Yes, I know all about the pathways & we would be happy with team or gateway!

I’ve also heard from someone who works there that they aren’t decreasing admissions but just holding steady with no increase. I hope the latter is correct!
His first choice will be Mays followed by Economics.
He will submit as TO. All the standard NHS, varsity sports, club leadership roles, volunteering, and part time work. He will have 33 DC hours by graduation.
He is currently finishing two additional DC classes this week that the district didn’t include in his rank. These classes would have brought down to the mid 9% range if included.
OOOHhhh… that could be new info on SRAR and application to report this. Will they not rerank post summer? Some schools rerank the Junior year in the late summer/early Fall. If it makes that big a difference, then I would at least ask for it!
