Thank you for sharing! Our side does not look like yours yet but we will keep an eye on it.
Hopefully soon!!
I believe both of these statements can be true.
I think the “hands the [auto-admit] application over to Mays … to either accept or decline” is not really Holistic Review (like Engineering), but it is merely them checking their own college seating chart, for lack of a better term, to see if they have an open seat. If there’s an empty chair, you’re “accepted,” and if there are no empty chairs, then you’re “declined.” That’s how I see it.
That’s so weird. Do you remember who you spoke with? And were you discussing business Honors perhaps vs just getting Mays as first choice major?
Here it specifically states:
"Select business (major code BUAD) as your first choice major. Admissions to Mays Business School is competitive, and we encourage you to apply early. The ENTIRE admission process is managed by Texas A&M’s office of Admissions, not Mays business school. Connect with admissions with any questions.
So we need to figure out why you are being told something different. This has been the same process for several years now (maybe 5 plus). Which is why I verified with my contacts at TAMU and admissions plus the site to make sure I’m not giving false info. BUT you were told this by someone in Mays, so that concerns me.
Thank you - yes, I have her business card and have emailed her. I was not the only parent in this meeting and we all heard the same thing. All of the students in this meeting were auto-admit applicants.
Great. Thank you for sharing this. Let me know what she says. And you aren’t talking Honors, correct?
We are more concerned that the application shows it was “received” on 08/19/2025 yet she applied through common app on August 1st. I think she will be OK with the timing but this delay from Common App frustrated my daughter. The other universities downloaded around the same time as A&M yet they show application was received on August 1st.
Correct - we met with a different lady regarding Business Honors.
This was my daughter’s concern with Common App. There doesn’t seem to be any benefit to have applied early because the first 18 days of applicants got downloaded at the same time. That’s why I felt it was almost being penalized.
I noticed that nowhere on that Mays Undergraduate Admissions page does it mention “holistic review.” And why the emphasis to “apply early” unless they are still operating under the “first-come, first-served” process?
By contrast, compare it with the Engineering Undergraduate Application Process page. It very clearly states it is a “total holistic review process” and the policy “applies to all engineering applications, including Texas A&M automatic admits.” And then it goes into all the factors considered in the review process.
If Mays Business truly moved from “first-come, first-served” to an entirely holistic review process, I would expect to see similar wording on the Mays web page to prepare people.
Mine looked at hers. @BigSky21 , she has an “overview” section, but application still says “under review”
Learned Howdy will update to look like your version once the application is complete with all green checks on AIS. Thank you for sharing!
DD has all green checks, but isn’t admitted yet. It’s still “under review”
Same. The overview tab looks pretty legit! Would be so nice to be all done and official before Labor Day weekend
Ds has all the tabs today and says Mays Business School in Howdy! Whoohoo!! About a month earlier than my 2028er with top 25% and engineering.
Wow. That was fast!!! Congrats.
My son is applying to Texas A&M using the Apply Texas application. On the essays the character limits are different. In the instructions it will say 500 characters but under the box to type it has 3000 characters. Which character limits should be used?
500-750
Do not do 3000 lol
short answer questions are more like 250-300.
and remember, more concise essays that convey the meaning is better than a longer flowery essay with no substance.
Congrats. Please share stats. Thanks.
I shared stats above. He’s homeschooled with a 3.96 GPA (including AP and DE classes). He has a 1310 one-sitting SAT so he was classified top 10% by the new law. He submitted his application on Aug 1st.
He would have been a really great holistic candidate so I wasn’t too concerned about him getting admitted, but didn’t think he’d get Mays.
