Just discovered this thread. DS applied 8/17 to Mays for Business. Stats are UW 3.5 and W 4.49 (AIS ranked in 1st quarter), 14 APs, AP Scholar, SAT 1480. Decent extracurriculars - Tennis JV Team Captain, Varsity Team Manager, Youth Tennis instructor in summer, multiple part time jobs suring school year, summer internship as a marketing intern in a Tech company, guitar/drums for multiple years. Not sure if this is enough for Mays, now in review process. Wondering if you guys think that there is a shot, thanks.
I have a question about changing majors and when to do it. My DD is re-considering her selection as 2nd choice for major. There is a place on AIS where you can “change major” but would that result in a delay in acceptance (even as an auto-admit)? She is thinking she is interested in the Bush school/poly sci. It may be very competitive; I don’t know. This is new.
I’m confused by the question… she’s auto admit correct? There’s no review process. There’s no time delay on acceptance if you change your major. But I would wait til officially accepted then ask to change major. You get accepted to university not major.
I am unsure about that timeline. I know that not everyone who applies and gets accepted to the university gets in Mays or Engineering, for example. So is there a window between an auto-admit general admission and when they do acceptances for specific majors that would be best to make the change?
don’t know what to tell you. Only Engineering has a separate review for the exact major (and I believe in architecture major too). No where have I seen or heard that Mays is conducting a review for acceptance into Mays. If you are auto admit and apply in Aug/Sept your are almost 100 % guaranteed a spot in Mays.
same with pols. If they want to change from mays to pols, they can wait til formal acceptance. If you want, call to verify how and when is the best time to do it. My son changed from ag bus to Econ after accepted and had to email an advisor in Econ to get that switched. But there’s no review process. If it’s open, they’ll move them. And you are right, not everyone gets their first choice, but that’s more for holistic applicants not auto (unless they apply nov/dec)
@FriscoDad@52AG82 have you heard of a Mays secondary review for this year? I spoke to 2 people at Tamu (advisors and admissions office) to verify this. But am I missing something?
My DD’s documents section in AIS portal shows transcript is there , but the status still shows red for transcript under status and hence her application is still under review . She also verified with her school counselor and they said that they sent the transcript . Should she still go ahead and upload her transcript which she downloaded from HAC-the school portal ?
For purposes of engineering, I am curious as to your opinion on what constitutes very close to auto-admit with high scores. My DD is at a North Dallas private school that does not rank, but traditionally, a lot of kids from her school are admitted to A&M. AIS has her ranked first quarter, and her ACT is 31.
I am assuming to prepare to wait to hear until January/February?
Pre-calc. She wrote the supplemental essay about it. Took pre-algebra in 7th in public school during Covid. Transferred to private school in 8th and they required her to repeat pre-algebra (despite making an A). They also don’t allow acceleration. We did not realize how limiting it would be. Taking AP Chem, AP Comp Sci, Honors Engineering senior year.
Sat score 1550, Rank 4/675, I am auto admit but I am still working on my essays and waiting for letters of recommendation. My PSAT is 1520 and the score report says I qualify for national merit, even though I have not received official confirmation. I am looking to apply to the School of Engineering, but I am scared about the rolling admissions process. I have only one supplemental left to write, the essay about “an important life event”, and the scholarship essays that are optional. How soon should I submit to secure a spot in engineering? I have heard that you can submit LORS after your commonapp application, should I submit my application by this weekend if possible?
I am worried that spots for engineering will full up. Is it advisable to submit earlier with poorer essays than revise and wait? I already missed the chance to submit in August for the first batch of decisions.
Essays will not hurt you. Just tell your story. I’m happy to review it if you want. just PM me and I’ll give you my email. I don’t charge… but I can give you some quick feedback so you can get it in.
