Howdy. Happy to be here and learn from everyone. My older son used this forum a lot when he was applying 3 years ago and recommended it to me. (He ended up choosing another university.) Now my younger son is applying to A&M and it is his top choice. It is a reach for him and his application has already been turned in so nothing we can change now. Just excited to watch and wait with others. We know he probably won’t hear anything until Spring so just here for the moral support. FWIW here are his stats:
Texas Resident, Animal Science major, 3.9 unweighted, 4.9 weighted (not ranked but probably about top 15%). 9 AP classes, 60 dual credits with an AS degree, 1280 SAT (and he will not take again). Lots of relevant EC with animals, Certified Veterinary Assistant, FFA etc. Four years in band and state finalist for three years.
I already love this group and wish I had joined months ago before he submitted his application
I’ve been lurking for a while but just joined. I am class of ‘95, I have a son who is class of ‘20 (poor kid had to watch graduation online…but his name was put on the jumbotron at Kyle Field!), a son that is a Junior this year, and I have a daughter applying for Mays.
I was told there would be no early action and no official admits until after October 19 because of the new law that allows free applications to Texas public universities from October 13-19. Has anyone else heard this?
I haven’t but my daughter has already received acceptance from other Texas universities so doesn’t feel like a thing but I can understand this position.
Hey there. No EA for engineering this year and we haven’t had it for other majors. Rumor has it that auto admits will officially hear oct 1st. That seems late to me but that is what I have heard from reliable source. However with that being said, it’s common to get conflicting info from Tamu about admissions so we shall see how this cycle plays out.
Thank you for the response. We went on the A&M general engineering and chemical engineering tour on Friday. Mainly for my husband, an electrical engineer with a master’s degree, who was skeptical of the ETAM. However, after hearing more about it, he was more impressed. Also, our daughter is not 100% clear on what path of engineering she wants. She is thinking chemical because she likes chemistry. We will see. However, after the tour, her father and I think A&M would be a great fit for her. Open to TEAB, possibly even Galveston. We will see. She has already been accepted to OSU, Bama, and Texas Tech (husband’s alma matter). But, I don’t know that they compare to A&M.
As far was taking AP Calc BC self-paced, I assume you suggest that to prepare her for first year Calc as opposed to influencing her chances of A&M admission?
If using on line resources to study for AP Calc BC and register for the test in your student’s high school (or a nearby high school) your student can update STARS indicating AP Calc BC part of 12th grade curriculum. It does affect the admission decision.
Being open minded on ETAM is great positive thinking as freshmen.
Math 152 (part of ETAM) can be quite unforgiving. Even your student passes the MPE before enrollment, from pre-Calc (after next summer) to Math 152 (spring 2027) will be mere four months. It is very steep learning curve.
Hi, Texas A&M says on its website that letters of recommendation have to be sent by post or uploaded through AIS. DD applied through common app, where she had recommendations. AIS shows LOR received. Anyone else have this experience? Do we need to resend LOR?
Hi everyone…My son is applying for fall admission and completed his Apply Texas application on 8/11. A&M acknowledged receiving it on 8/13. I paid the fee on the 16th and the STAR was in on 8/25.
On Thursday, he received an email saying all students who submitted an ApplyTexas application need to complete an extracurricular activities form. It also said ApplyTexas “didn’t gather all the information needed”. He included extracurricular info on his ApplyTexas application already. Do we need to be worried that he did something wrong? The wording of the email is strange to me… he’s essentially being asked to re-enter the same information???
Normally extracurricular activities are not seriously considered. One can load an extended resume via AIS. If your student has doubt, your student can send a question via AIS.
Thank you for the reply. The email was from tamu.edu. We called the admissions office and they said its for consideration for scholarships/financial aid. This is our 4th kid to apply and we had not seen that before!
Since high schools can now link Common App to SCOIR as of 2025-2026, can A&M now receive SCOIR documents…specifically LORS? I do not see A&M listed on the SCOIR connections web page.
Currently, the link is not automatic, one will need to open both accounts and opt-in after signing FERPA in Common App, then go to SCOIR to initiate the link.
Some are getting the unofficial acceptance in Howdy, but I’ve been told official acceptances will be Oct. 1st. That seems pretty late, so I’m hoping that is not accurate.
How to see the unofficial acceptance in howdy ? My DD has seven tabs and shows her selected major under overview section . But the status in howdy is still under review
