LOR won’t delay admission and play a very small role in admission process. LOR may be useful for Engineering Honor application. A separate application after admission to TAMU.

Your son can send official transcript as early as end of Junior year. They will link the application together once your student submits the application in August. If your student attends public school, check the ISD’s website there is likely a link or a process to submit official transcript electronically.

The process starts with submitting application via Apply Texas or Common App, within a week or so, your student will receive AIS/Howdy portal access. Link the STARS (formerly SRAR) and if top10% rank is reported in STARS, there will be a requirement of official transcript. If transcript was sent earlier it will automatically link together. Once official transcript is manually reviewed, general admission will come and your student will be able to make housing deposit.

For engineering, after general admission the status will change to “engineering review” status. If your student has strong STEM vigor (report in STARS), the review will convert to full admission.

Good luck to all of this year’s applicants. My son went through the process of applying for Engineering last year and we will be moving him in on August 19th. The year went sooooo fast! I kept the timeline that I will share below. He was top 10%/Valedictorian, was involved in (3) school sports, band, choir and was working on his Eagle Scout at the time of application. I say all that because other students with different ECs and rankings may have timelines that look different. Let me know if you have any questions and I may be able to explain. Here is his timeline:
Applied 8/1
-Transcript mailed after application
AIS/Howdy 8/6
SRAR linked 8/6
Fee Paid 8/6
All green checks in required section 8/7
7 tabs in Howdy portal and major changed to Engineering Review 8/8
Housing portal login access 9/12
Official university admittance 9/12
Housing Phase 1 complete and Fee paid 9/13 (we had a little snaffoo at with the housing department otherwise this would have been done on 9/12)
Housing Phase 2 complete 9/14
Holistic Review & Scholarship Activity Questionnaire 9/16 (Apply Texas didn’t attach his ECs)
Acceptance packet arrived 9/27
Changed to General Engineering 10/2

she is 1st in her class. She is taking the SAT in September. She needed to get her score up so she has been studying. Her last practice was 1380

Rank is fantastic-congrats!
She will need at least a 1450+, to be considered.
Most BH’ers are NM S/F or a few Commended, and class rank 1-4%.
PLUS out-of-the-park resumes-

*Community Service/Volunteerism
*Class Leadership/high positions held
*Awards & recognition
VERY well rounded

Zero chance of getting Hullabaloo if she waits to apply in September.

The plan is to apply asap–like next week–to get the dorm. And then send the September scores in September

Thank you so much!!!

Today’s first day of application submission is so much quieter than it was last year.

Hi I need some HELP!
I have 520 words on my TAMU transfer essay and maximum is supposed to be 650. Common app is only allowing me 428 words.
Any advice on what to do? I don’t want to shorten my essay?
I read somewhere that I Can I leave it blank or just type in “essay uploaded on AIS”? Not too convinced on submitting application and leaving my essay out.
Appreciate the help. Thanks

Thank you!

Are you entering the Common app general essay, or the TAMU SOP (State of Purpose)? If Common app has a limit, you can either upload to AIS after you have the portal, or use Apply Texas.

Do not shorten your essay.

Hello everyone,
This forum was so helpful for my class of 2026 and 2027.
Back again for the third and last.
I feel like I don’t remember anything and the oldest has been helping.
Thanks again for this wonderful forum.
So is it correct that you can send in the September test score later?

She is not ready to apply. She is hoping to turn it in by end of August or September.
Is it true common app for A&M also?

Ha! I’m in the same boat. I don’t remember anything! My DD is planning on sending in her SAT score in September

Yes, your student can apply first, and send in the scores later. The idea is applying as early as possible to it won’t interfere with 12th grade studies.

Filling out the SRAR and am confused. I transferred high schools halfway through and am not sure how to input data. While the most current high school transcript has all the past high school’s grades and coursework, it is recorded by semester (the current high school records all grades not as 1 final grade for a course but as 2 individual final semesters) yet on the transcript from the past high school, all grades are input as a final grade. When submitting the SRAR which way should the grades be input? Should they be all semester grades (as appears on the transcript from the most recent high school) or should they be half final grades and half semester grades? Will A&M only request one transcript from the most recent high school? Appreciate any help…

EDITED: SAT will be submitted on September 5. I don’t know why I put April in the original post!

Common App submitted. It is fun and exciting. I just don’t remember anything about the process for my son from a few years ago. Now she waits for an email to get in the system, right? How long does it take if the student is auto-admit? Of course, that is just for A&M generally. She put Mays as her first choice, but the SAT score won’t be submitted until April . I’m not sure if she can get into Mays without a score, even as #1 in her class.

Last year my auto admit son submitted his application on 8/1 and got the TAMU system email on 8/6. But he used Apply Texas and the Common App kids had to wait a bit longer. This year might be different though.

Report by semester. If a transcript is by year, you can list both Fall and Spring with same grade.

Each subject for each semester is half credit.

Even though official transcript is optional during application, in your case still best to send both high school transcripts to TAMU.

Wait, is that a typo? SAT wont be submitted until April?
