Yes, football season/cheer season for us! The waiting game is the worst.
Daughter submitted her Common App and put her GPA was on a 7 pt scale when it is really a 6 point scale. She corrected it in the Common App a few days after submission but I’m sure it was already received by TAMU. She also didn’t tell me about this until AFTER her Stars was submitted stating a 7 point scale too. Both have her correct GPA but the scale is incorrect. Is this a huge deal? She also had already uploaded her resume reflecting the weighted GPA as 6.XX / 7. Once you upload docs in AIS you can’t delete them. She corrected her Resume and resubmitted it (file name has the date so you can see two resumes dated with different dates) with her Weighted GPA 6.XX / 6
She’s holistic review b/c she didn’t play the GPA game. She chose to be part of a selective clinical rotation program that was 2 class periods (on level) but she got hospital experience and has her EKG technician certification as a part of it. She’s in the top 14-15% of a high performing HS, has a lot of dual credit, EC’s, 29 ACT and is wanting Biology or Public Health with plans to go to Med school.
Will the GPA scale be a big deal? I’m sure it’s a common mistake kids make, right? I’m trying not to freak out too much but the waiting is very difficult.
For everyone wanting Mays and stressed about getting into Mays; Our c/o 22 son got in Holistic review for his 2nd choice major (Ag Business), graduated in May (changed to Ag Economics) and is in graduate school now (MSF '27). So if your kiddo doesn’t get Mays right away it isn’t the end of the world. It will be ok. There are pathways to Mays and graduate programs for non business majors (hence the reason to switch to Econ). In the end he’s graduating with his Masters in Finance from A&M.
Best suggestion is sending official high school transcript electronically to TAMU and let admission office review it. It is optional for holistic but at times they will review the data and compare against STARS matrix. Even if your high school treat an advanced course like AP with a higher weight, at times the max (highest achievable) GPA is not 7.0 (should be 6.X). Many applicants submit it incorrectly that’s why TAMU use UW data, and in the end the rank is what matters. Admission office will adjust accordingly.
Marching band season here! My senior is caught up in all the high school busy-ness. I’m the only one who feels like it’s a waiting game!
I’d say this and maybe have her call one stop and explain the situation. I’m sure it does happen. I know that was a huge thing for our school’s group.. the school said 6.0 scale.. but that really isn’t true because that would be every single period an AP class and that isn’t even an option.
Thanks for the intel on Mays MSF program. It is one i love to push foe those wanting finance but didnt get Mays.
Also wanted to add that for non Mays majors, you can apply and start this masters while in undergrad. It can run concurrently startting wnd of sophomore year i believe.
Correct! Our son started sophomore year. It’s a great program! He already has a job when he graduates in May and is working for them part time during this school year too.
Any guidance on what to do with the weighted GPA scale? Is it a big deal? Should we send a transcript even though she did the STARS?
My daughter’s timeline has been a bit different from my son’s who applied and was accepted (Visualization major) 2 years ago under holistic review. This year my daughter enters the TAMU gauntlet as top 10% hoping to get into BIMS or Biology.
She got bit of a late start since her summer was quite hectic and she didn’t get to her essay prompts until end of July through beginning of August.
Tuesday, 8/25 - Submitted her application via Common App.
Thursday, 8/27 - Received netID email, logged in to AIS and linked her STAR.
Friday, 8/28 - STAR marked complete in AIS and official HS transcript listed in ‘My Documents’ but not processed yet. Message on ‘My App Status’ says, “We need your high school transcript to verify your top ten ranking and admit you!”
Since red banner message at the top of AIS says, “Due to significant volume, please allow up to two weeks for your final transcripts to process.” we’re anticipating worst case scenario is that the final “X” won’t clear until Friday, September 11.
Any insights on how long this has actually been taking so far (from transcript received in My Documents to being marked Complete)?
I tried doing a quick search through previous posts and didn’t see an answer - appreciate anyone’s note on this if I’ve missed it being mentioned at some point already!
I would have her call admissions just to get peace of mind.
Not a huge deal.
Did she upload the transcripts herself in AIS and are they showing under received documents? If so, they could clear as early as tomorrow! My daughter uploaded hers one evening, the following day they showed as “received” and the day after that she had all green checks AND 7 tabs!
Thanks for the reply @Bb49 !
Her transcript was actually sent by her HS Counselor to TAMU. She was unsure whether her counselor had actually had the chance to submit it yet for her, so she was relieved to see the update in the AIS showing received in the “Received Documents” section!
Your daughter’s timeline gives us hope that it won’t take a full 2 weeks to process!

She contacted admissions through her AIS portal and this was their response:
We appreciate your interest in Texas A&M. All coursework and grades are taken from your STARS, not your Common App.
STARS doesn’t have the scale, just the weighted and unweighted GPA. Hopefully all is well.
Perfect. They will have the school demographic profile as well so they know what’s what.
Would you consider class rank of 11.9% “just outside” top 10%? My kiddo is ranked 60 out of 503. Trying to decipher if he might hear back in the Fall or if it will most likely be February - April before he gets a admission decision.
Scores? Rigor? Those will play a big part. Good rank tho!
27 ACT, 11 AP classes (including - in process - senior year), applied for BS Econ, great essay (IMO
)
Thank you for the info. 27 is decent but below the slam dunk score of 31 plus. 11 APs show great rigor. Any scores in from those exams? Grades in those classes As?
Essays are great but a small part of the decision process. However, if it shares a unique story… could push a bubble applicant to the admitted sign.
My homeschooled daughter just got her green check on rank with top ten designation. Howdy is still not updated with 7 tabs though. On to the next wait!
Howdy just updated with 7 tabs, and it says admitted to Mays! Feels so good!!
