For the holistic applicants: Does admissions look at rank, gpa, or test scores first? Which is more heavily weighed? DD is 12% (87/690), has average SAT. I know she’s classified as ‘top quarter’ on the application. Will she get grouped in the ‘top quarter’ or does she get a bump up because she’s close to top 10%? Just trying to understand how that process works.
With what I assume will be close to 90k applicants, I cannot imagine how many students are within the tiniest margins of one another!
I hope you guys hear soon!
I don’t know the answer to your question but have an applicant in the top 13% with a slightly above average ACT, so am wondering too. Do certain majors or schools have higher criteria and place more weight on test scores vs others? Someone correct me if I’m wrong but I think TAMU (as well as most colleges) reweights their GPA on their own system. Hence the reason for STARS. I’m not sure how true it is but I was told back when our son applied in '21 for Fall '22 (he was top 12% at a very high performing HS), that admissions also takes into consideration or adjusts for high performing HS/classes. He did not get into Mays but he got in for his 2nd choice major which was Ag Business. He also submitted test scores when they couldn’t “positively or negatively impact your application” bc it was just after/during Covid and testing wasn’t as readily available. I have no clue how things are now. I’m just over here anxiously waiting to hear back.
I think I do remember during an admissions talk about them recalculating GPA, because I remember the man saying something about they take different high schools and their rigor into account basically so a student wouldn’t be penalized if they only had access to these courses versus another student who had access to all kinds of courses in a larger school. I could be wrong too though. Feels like my brain is swimming at this point and just ready to know officially what we are looking at lol
Also, my kiddo has decided NOT to try for university honors. He is going to wait on Mays admission and the (hopeful) long shot for department honors.
I don’t think my daughter is going to try for university honors either. We’ll just leave that email alone.
Tamu accepts students first then looks at major for availability not qualification for that major. Hence auto typically get first choice. So smaller majors fill up.
Just checking in.. happy Labor Day, yall! How are we feeling? I’m excited thinking maybe “official” things will start rolling this week. I’m hoping anyway!
Hi @Christi1993 Does holistic review have a chance with test optional. Targeting history. Good academics (4.95/5, 6 APs in related subjects with 4s 5s, AP scholar, top 25% bucket in AIS), great ECs (prominent club president, 4 year varsity team sports with all district selections, volunteer work with disabled in school/outside), great LORs (from history teacher and volunteer work at school) and believe to be a very good essay. Submit SAT score that is close to 25% listed in CDS or go test optional?
I think it could go either way, honestly. They say it won’t hurt the applicant but I don’t know definitively if that is true. Having 4s and 5s on AP exams is great and shows mastery of subjects with strong course rigger. The other 50% of the equation (LORs, ECs, essay) sounds strong as well.
It really is a you decision. I would say anything under a 1200 not be submitted (that is truly just my opinion).

can someone please share Howdy screenshot? How it looks with 7 tabs.
My daughter has green checks under AIS. She just checked today. She is not in top 25% of the class. Probably around 30-40% in highly competitive large HS. 1350 SAT. Very good extra curriculars.
She is applying for Architecture and finished her common app mid August.
Any thoughts on when she might have a decision?
Thanks!
Arch is a mid size school, but with majors breaking up where those students go. So a cohort of 500 is then broked up among it’s majors like Con Science. Most holistic applicants find out after winter break. There will be some holistics that find out in October/November, but with a 2nd quarter ranking, set your expectations to end of Jan/early Feb at the earliest.
The SAT is a solid score though!
Thanks so much.. it seems that her SAT is 1320 to be exact. She didn’t send it as she thought it won’t help her case. She is submitting it now.
Dang.. really thought today might be the day based off last year! But nada on our end. Anyone hear anything?
Crickets! But I don’t have a good sense for when engineering review could end for some applicants. (Doesn’t keep us from checking…)
So many checks lol
And I keep running here to see if anyone has reported in lol ![]()
From another group today. I was hoping official acceptances would be today, too!
I see housing applications are opening for 27/28 per the res life page. We still have nothing official (7tabs though) and are unable to log into housing. What’s everyone else experiencing?
I thought they would put out auto admittance before housing opened? @Christi1993 have any ideas?
