She submitted common app on 09/17, got AIS access and linked STARS on 9/19, application went to In Review state on 09/21, and Howdy showed admitted to Mays today.

Agree college applications are so stressful.

Congrats! NMSF is wonderful! So many perks! Have you looked into Business Honors? It’s amazing!

Yes, she selected yes for Honors program. Very competitive I believe esp for OOS student.

Looks like son was admitted yesterday - 7 tabs in Howdy (I assume those are My Favs, Overview, Personal Info, Applicant, My Record, Finances, Optional Services). OOS, 1520 SAT, industrial engineering, NMSF, 5 AP’s + several DC’s. He submitted common app around 9/9, when NMSF was officially announced.

Congrats OOS newly admitted. Looks like tamu is following their normal timeline.

So OOS hears before in-state holistic?

NMSF from OOS or high ranking with solid scores, do hear back before most in state holistic. NMSF in state should also hear soon, assuming they are not auto and have already heard.

OOS highly competitive applicants are sought after and most of these students are applying EA or ED to stronger universities across the country. TAMU, of course, wants theses students.

Hi! I have a senior engineering major at A&M, and I’ll be forever grateful to the mods for all the help you gave us back in ’23 when he was applying. My younger son is now in the process of applying and we have a bit of a dilemma. His first SAT attempt was a 1380 (740 Math, 640 English), and his second was a 1410 (710 Math, 700 English). We’re tempted to send the 1380 since A&M doesn’t superscore and we understand that Engineering places significant weight on the Math subsection score. Would love to hear your thoughts on which score you think we should submit!

Submit both. While they will use the highest score, can’t hurt that they see the 740 in math. Also, they do like to see that math and eng are pretty even. So, truly neither will hurt your chances at all.

And great job. Solid scores!

Thanks Christi! The scores are decent but I’m not sure they’ll be enough for him to get into Engineering, especially given how much more competitive it has become lately. He was under the impression that he’d be auto-admit because of his earlier class rank, but he ended up just outside the top 10%, so he didn’t put much effort into SAT prep.
He attends a large 6A high school. By the end of junior year, he had taken 11 AP classes, including AP Calculus AB and AP Physics 1, earning a 4 on both AP exams and 3s and 4s on the rest. He’s currently taking AP Calc BC, AP Physics C, and a few DC core classes. His unweighted GPA is 3.85. His ECs include varsity sports, competitive robotics, and some clubs and volunteering. Do you think his stats are strong enough to receive the three Engineering pathway offer, despite his relatively low SAT scores?

I have zero of Christi’s expertise (this is my first time through the app process as a parent), but he seems like a very strong candidate to me! Lots to be proud of. Best of luck!

Does tamu show the rank as 25% or is there also the number over the total, showing he is just outside the top 10%

He’s still in the process of applying, so we don’t know what rank TAMU will assign him. I’d urged him to apply earlier but he insisted on waiting for his second SAT results. Our school technically doesn’t rank beyond the top 10%. We’re assuming he just missed the cutoff since his beginning and mid-year rankings in junior year were 7–8%. The school is highly competitive with not much room for error… Oh well! I’m assuming TAMU will assign him a top-quarter ranking. When my oldest applied, everyone outside the top 10% seemed to be lumped into the same quartile-based category. Has that changed?

How very kind of you! I really appreciate the encouragement. Best of luck to your kiddo, as well!

If the school gives his specific number like 39 out lf 380 then they will put that and then say top quarter. But at least they would see how close.

He needs to get that app in asap. Doesnt pay to wait. He could have just reported his 2nd SAT but at least his app would be in.
