Yes, thanks for the reminder, Christi! I’ll make sure he submits everything outstanding this weekend.
As for his rank, no, our school doesn’t provide specific numerical rankings outside the top 10%, though I’m not sure if TAMU normally tries to extrapolate that data on their own. On another note, someone recently advised us to only submit the test with his highest math subscore. The logic was that since the university doesn’t superscore, their system just defaults to the highest overall composite, meaning the engineering committee might never even see his best math performance if it’s tied to a lower composite score. I assume you disagree with this?
Yea, I disagree. A 1410 is substantially better than 1380. Also, both scores will show up and while they can’t superscore, seeing that you can obtain a 740 is evident. Also, anything in the 700s puts you in a firm spot.
Then add in all the course rigor in Math and science. Scoring well on Math in AP. the EC in Robotics helps too.
My gut is submit both. Regardelss, he will get an offer, whether it’s full admit or TEAB or Galveston. What could hold him back, taking 2 months to turn in app.
When does engineering typically start offering Galveston or TEAB for auto admits who applied to CS? Is it truly once CS is full (so Jan-Feb?), or are there some applicants they think would be a better fit for the Galveston or TEAB from the outset of the review process so they get that answer in the fall? Engineering really is a unique beast! Trying to set expectations around here…
In late January they send out the email for those that get those offers.
If applicants apply before the October deadline, then they will hear something, but also possible to hear… your decision has been delayed. You will hear in January.
It’s a crap shoot and hard to decipher what each cycle will look like.
I have a hard time imagining any auto admits being outright denied in the fall because there are so many engineering options that they offer later in the process. I do think it would be useful for a rejection to come early since the students are auto admits to the university and could be accepted to another major if that was of interest to them. I look forward to hearing Christi’s take on this (as always).
Even if auto admit, possible to not get engineering. If the applicant puts both 1st and 2nd as engineering, then they could get the deferred decision. However, since already in at tamu, they can call and ask how to change their choices to something outside of engineering.
I had a student who was top 2%. He got teab. Devastated but, Actually loved it. Did well and graduated from Tamu in 4 years (sooner than most engineers).
If the student isn’t sold on Engjneering, they are auto admits, and already have their decision, make the change sooner than later so there is room in your 2nd choice.
Business Honors email received this morning. Just informational saying they are in review, but nice to know they are on the list for consideration anyway. Just wanted to give heads up for those of y’all looking for it!
My son received it, too. But email says Admissions notified Mays that son would like to be considered for Business Honors. I’m kind of thinking they send it to everyone accepted to Mays that checked they want to be considered for honors. Does anyone know?
In other words, I don’t believe Admissions pre-screened Mays acceptances if student checked on app that they want to be considered for Business Honors.
Curious to know is there a separate application for Bisiness Honors that needs to be filled out other than checking Yes while submitting the common app.
I am curious to know if anyone slightly below the average SAT listed on the email make it to Business Honors. Is it a hollistic type review where they re-read all the essays and assess the entire application before deciding to extend a spot? My daughter is at 1440 SAT (1460 superscore) and wondering if she has a chance.
Business Honors is elite and extremely competitive. I believe they only accept 80 each year. I may be wrong on the actual number. @52AG82 is a Mays Honors guru. Maybe she has some insight on this.
