Texas A&M Class of 2031 Official Thread

No need to switch to Common App if you’ve got a good start in AT!

Holistic son…large 6A Central Texas school that is officially nonranking outside of top 10%. But we know he was just barely outside that. Friday he saw the infamous 7 tabs in Howdy and says Mays! Second Aggie for this fourth generation Longhorn. Happy tears but still want to see the official admit!

That’s amazing. Congrats!!!

Can you provide stats for those waiting as well as helping us with holistic timelines.

Will graduate with 12 APs

4 year football/3 year varsity at 6A powerhouse (25+ hours a week year round)

Great stats. Thank you for sharing. So excited for your fam. If he wants to live on campus, be sure you hit res life Asap (could be open) and complete phase 1!

Are people finding this on howdy when 7 tabs appear? No AIS acceptance yet. Not sure how they’re applying before that. I read older posts but can’t tell for sure. Thanks!!

Yes. We have seen them going thru housing in howdy to get into housing app before Ais acceptance.

Saw a post on fish camp sessions today. Would you recommend an earlier session or does it really matter? Thanks so much!

In case anyone hadn’t seen this yet. :+1::+1:

They are all great. Would recommend not doing the last one only because it crams the end of summer. That is my opinion.

Fish camp is a blast. Those that don’t want to go, always come out of it so happy they went (guys and girls alike).

Congrats and thank you for the stats.

As for the core, I think they all have their own vibe and I think that vibe changes with each class. I don’t have any tips/info but hoping someone on here can help you out!

Good luck with Engineering decision!

Banner arrived!! :tada::tada:

Hello all! Last week, my son got his admit (to the College of Engineering) and we’re thrilled about it because A&M has always been one of our top choices. I recently found out about this forum and I’m so blown away by how kind and giving the folks here are. I’m hoping some of you could help us with a few questions

  1. My son is a national merit semi-finalist. We’ve not been on a campus visit, and were hoping to do that after the admit. I then found out about National Scholar’s Day and apparently there’s one next month. We don’t have an invite (not sure why) and have emailed TAMU about that, but I wanted to find out what exactly is different on this day as opposed to a tour any other day. I’m guessing there’ll be some generic info about how NMSF students skip ETAM, etc. that can be readily found on their website. Anything else particularly noteworthy? We’re specifically interested if we can connect with anybody from his intended major. Is that an option?
  2. New Student Conference Q1: Is there any difference between the 1 day and 2-day NSC sessions outside of the fact that the 1-day session is more ‘compressed’? And what does that actually translate to? Are sessions skipped or are they rushed through?
  3. New Student Conference Q2: perhaps a premature question but is it advisable to register for the earliest possible NSC date to have a better chance at registering for the classes you want? In that case, what happens to kids who have an NSC session in June but want to use AP credits to skip classes (with those AP scores coming out only in July) - do those kids have to register for July sessions instead? Any trade-offs to watch for?

If anybody has any questions for me, I’ll be happy to answer. I’m sure we’ll also have more questions in the coming days. Congratulations to everyone else who’s been admitted thus far, and wishing everyone else the very best of luck for their upcoming decisions.

My son applied September 1st, test optional

for AGSM. He is home schooled with an unweighted GPA of 3.88. After the spring semester, he will have 41 dual credit hours (so far 26 completed with a 4.0). Involved in 4H, baseball, competitive piano, and works full time. TAMU ranked him in the top quarter. Wondering if this is even a possible dream for him. His dad and I are both Aggies, and he would love to be one, too! What is a realistic expectation? Is it possible he hears back before February?

I am not sure how he did on the SAT but A&M’s threshold for auto admit for homeschoolers is only a 1290. Could he take the test again?

The 4.0 in dual credit courses is significant. I know of someone who did not get in as a homeschool freshman. But turned around and applied as a transfer admit and was admitted. Just a thought. The wait is hard!

Thank you! His scores were not great (1100 and 22), which is why he chose the test optional route. His dyslexia and ADHD caused some test day hurdles, but his coursework, GPA, and essay show his ability and grit. Transferring is definitely not out of the question, as it is more about direct numbers such as credits and GPA, I’ve been told. He can take a semester to stack some more credits at the community college and try again (and save some money!). But he is still hoping for admission in the fall. I was just wondering if anyone thought his stats were competitive… Thank you for your encouragement!

Saw on Reddit that Mays is already full and no more seats available.

Congrats!! Woohoo! I’ve been to National Scholars Day twice with my sons. One of those times was with my engineer. There will be a meal time and engineering honors students are there to talk to and ask questions of. I believe they took us on a mini tour to show us housing, but it was not a normal full tour. The president also came to the meeting and addressed the students.

I also had to email and ask to be invited and we attended in June both times.

At each NSC they open new course sections so May, June, and July are pretty much the same as far as course offerings. Don’t be too quick to “claim” those AP credits. Wait for the Advisor to help make those choices. (And ask the students at the National Scholars Day!)

“Skipping” ETAM means he’ll get his first choice major, but I’m not sure he gets to skip the required course work of 2 maths, 2 sciences, and the engineering classes they take that first year. Those are not easy classes and be careful about taking the AP credits and automatically being placed in the next level of course work.

We’ve only been to 2 day NSCs.

Mary, I’m a fellow homeschooler. TO is a tough route to take, honestly.

I would say be open to going straight Blinn and then transfer in after a year or so there.

It’s awesome that he did get first quarter and I hope for the best for him! I just got my 3rd and final kid admitted!

I have seen others mention an October 15th deadline for Engineering, but cannot find this deadline mentioned on any official TAMU site. Where is this deadline officially stated? Thank you.
