Application complete! ![]()
Best of luck to all of the applicants. Just remember, it can be a long waiting process. Pack your patience every day!
This forum does help with knowing you are not alone.
Gig ‘Em.
He applied! The only frustrating/concerning thing we had was by using common app first choice major was “business” and I really thought it woulD be listed as “business administration or BUAD” because that was drilled in so many times at tours and things. That made us both a little nervous.
You’re fine! In my experience it doesn’t say BUAD until after you get AIS.
That’s good to hear! I appreciate it!
My son applied Business as well, and Business was the only option (we went through to look for a BUAD, and it wasn’t there).
When someone hears back that A&M has sent the link to start submitting STARS, transcripts, etc. in their portal, please post here date of application and when A&M sent the links.
Also, A&M just added dates for campus/departmental/dorm visits on their website yesterday through December, so if you plan to visit, I would encourage planning and booking the sessions you want ASAP, because they can frustratingly be picked over. One other tip– the Fridays before home football games they offer expanded times. My son is an auto-admit and applied to Mays yesterday (I think he’s guaranteed at this point, but we’re hoping he’ll be surprised since he put in a lot of work to be in the top 10% and other activities), so we’re planning to go down in October since hopefully he’ll get his official acceptance by then, and we may stay over and catch a football game for the full experience.
@Christi1993 is there any you know of that an auto-admit app could be “slowed down” for Mays admission if they did indicate in Common App that they had assigned LORs to A&M? I know they aren’t needed for acceptance, but my son did so just in case he might be a candidate for honors where he thought they might prove useful.
It may be a few weeks before the teachers get them turned in, so wanted to make sure that won’t be a problem with how he selected them in Common App.
Anyone with COSCI experience: I think I heard that the majority of COSCI majors are change of major students (maybe also transfer students)? Does anyone know which majors students are transferring from? (When my 2027 Aggie got accepted to COSCI I think there were around 100 freshen admitted). My youngest son is a high school junior so he won’t apply until next summer. Just trying to see what information I can gather. Thanks!
I believe your app will still be considered complete since the LoRs are optional.
Anyone else experience anything different??
Cosci is a small college. I havent heard of it being mainly comprised of change of major/transfer students tho. I wouldn’t think that would be the case.
Great major!!! Is your older son loving it?
Agree - won’t cause a delay.
What is the expert guidance on scholarship essays? My son is an an auto admit applying for engineering. He won’t qualify for any need-based aid, and he is so unbelievably over essays right now (gee, me too)! Is it worthwhile to do both of the essays just in case even though it seems like merit aid is really tough to get at A&M?
I have 2 current Aggies that were both almost NMSF. (Missed it by 1 pt and 3 points respectively.) Oldest has written every scholarship essay yearly and never received anything. He’s a Business Honors major. My second got a small scholarship last year and none this year.
Hoping after this 3rd kid is in someone will have mercy on us. ![]()
Seems like only NMSF and/or Corps get scholarships to me.
I had heard it may slow things down. Another mom had recommended to wait until AIS access and then post the LOR to the application portal and not in common app (which is what we planned-he is hoping for honors as well), but honestly to me it seems as though that would be the same concept. So I’m unsure as well and curious on if anyone has any better advice.
And ditto on the scholarship end.. everyone we know with kids ahead of ours says not to hope for anything merit related unless NMSF. That is frustrating when they’ve worked so hard. He did do the essays on the off chance, but we are really hoping our local scholarships come through to help out.
Great point! Totally agree. You dont have to indicate you are submitting LoRs. Just upload them to AIS when they are ready.
I’m trying to understand the LOR thing. My son filled out the “Recommenders and FERPA” section of the A&M part of the Common App today, so it shows that he invited his counselor and two teachers. Are you saying that it would have possibly been better to not do that section? He hasn’t submitted the application yet (due to the aforementioned scholarship essays still not written—sigh). It does show an option to remove the teachers but not the counselor. I have no clue how this part works!
No expert here, by any means, but we had the same experience. It made us leave the counselor info in Common App just like you said (I’m assuming for verification purposes). We did not invite any teachers. My understanding is that part is not a requirement for TAMU. Our thought process was we would wait until we receive his acknowledgment letter and AIS access, then upload the LOR there directly to the portal along with transcript and any other needed info.
I also am not an expert when it comes to the common app. We used Apply Texas. The Ferpa is required so that your school can send transcripts and info to all colleges. By inviting teachers, this shows the school that they will come directly to the school and you will not see them. That’s great too and won’t delay your app from being reviewed. However, if you want to use someone other than a teacher, you don’t want to use up both of your LORs, so you could upload LoRs on the AIS once it is set up.
LoRs do not carry much weight in the grand scheme of things. So don’t worry to much on this part. I concur with what @aero2 did.
Hang in there.
Ahh, ok. Thanks!
He is loving Cosci. He’s doing his internship now through December…then one more semester and we’ll have our 2nd TAMU grad! (Our 1st graduated in May with a PPA & our 3rd starts TEAM Blinn in a few weeks).
