Texas Tech UMSI

@Peds4ever Congrats! Yes, I am attending.

@2020BSMD thanks! congrats to you as well! do you know if anyone who got in is not taking their spot?

@Peds4ever Based on the thread, one person mentioned not taking the spot.

Hi, I am going to be a junior in high school this upcoming fall and I am considering applying to the USMI program. I was wondering about the average stats for students applying, such as extracurriculars, health care volunteering/shadowing & academics. The website seems kind of vague so do you guys have some advice?

@2020BSMD Hi I was wondering what some of your other ECs were if you didn’t mind me asking?

I applied and was accepted into the UMSI program, but I ended up declining their program. Stats for me were mainly very high rank in my school, pretty much all the AP classes my school has to offer. Good SAT score and 3 perfect SAT subject tests. I did volunteering but not as much as many others. One of my main selling points was research that I did one summer at a local university. Additionally, I have some extracurriculars like sports and academic teams. Outside of that, the most important thing is spending time on your essays. I am sure that some people had better applications than me but if you don’t spend enough time on your essays than that resume is not worth anything.

Just try to do as much medical experiences as you can. Not only will this help your resume but it will also help you understand medicine and understand whether or not it is a career for you.
