My DH also has the “if you need to reach me please text me…” VM. But, if the call is coming to a cellphone and they leave a VM isn’t their ph# in the phone history?
Yes, but that wasn’t always the case, and I also have the house phone set that way. I don’t want to call back random numbers unless they’ve actually left me a message. I also hate making phone calls. It’s a mild phobia - I’ll make them if I have to, but I don’t like it.
I never answer my landline!
A landline? What is this thing you speak of?
It’s this wonderful device that allows all junk calls and such (like annoying automated dentist appt reminders) to go to it for less than $7/mo (its on VOIP) and we silence all but one of the handsets. We check the VM periodically. Its a lot cheaper than therapy, that we might need if we had to deal with all the junk calls on our cells!
Our landline also works out intercom at our driveway gate and doorbell. Our phone system is old and the only way I know who is calling on the landline is to have the tv on and volume on zero. Few call the line line so I don’t answer unless I know who is calling.
I have my iPhone set for “contacts only” to ring thru. All the spam goes straight to voicemail.
As for calling at 5 pm, I usually call people after dinner time, if I need to call. I figure people are out and about during the day.
Guilty!
I also absolutely hate hearing everyone’s phones pinging with texts. It’s so intrusive. I wish people would turn down the volume on the notifications or ringtone. I have a couple of friends who always have theirs full blast (no hearing issues) and I jump every single time.
We were talking about this issue with friends recently, and one of them said they used to have that setting, but missed very important calls from his brother’s doctor when his brother was hospitalized and had put his (our friend) down as the contact person in the forms!
It just goes to voicemail. I just got one a few minutes ago from a spam number, but if it had been my brother’s doctor I would’ve seen it too and could’ve called back. I always check to see who called. I have never missed an important call. I have gladly missed a jillion spam calls.
I don’t answer a number I don’t recognize. But the friend said his brother’s doctor was calling from his personal cell. It might have only shown a number and not a name for all I know. Yes it went to voicemail but it took a few callbacks from the doctor to finally get his attention. My cellphone voicemail transcribes the messages. This was (for him) probably before that feature was available
So back to topic, I do appreciate it when someone texts and then asks if I have time for a call (my son’s MIL just did that). We happened to be at lunch (rewarded ourselves for taking stuff to the recycling center in the rain) and it wasn’t a good time for a call. Was able to text back that I’d call when we were in the car, and then did the same courtesy- texted her first and asked if she was available.
I deleted some posts. If a user whose post was deleted wants more information, they can text me. All other forms of communication will be ignored.
Since I had to post a note anyway, I’ll take the opportunity to voice my assumption that the discussion of landlines (whatever those are) has concluded.
My bil is a physician. His number is completely blocked. Comes up as no caller id. Even for us who have his phone number in our contact list.
We know to answer but it looks like spam. No way to know who is calling you.
I’ve missed a phone call from a doctor. I still had a land line that only got spam calls. Even though I had my cell number as the primary to call.
It was a difficult 24 hours until he called back and I sat by my phone. Because your doctor doesn’t just call for no reason.
IIRC there is something that can be punched in (like *87 or something) these blocked #s to come through? Maybe that is dinosaur landline stuff, not sure. One of my Dr.s # comes in with the name of an associate in his practice (who is now retired) so I know it’s him or his nurse. I actually have his personal cell # but do not use it. But yes, it’s too easy to miss an important call.
Great typo! I know what you mean, but it did make me chuckle. Please leave it!
