Thanks for the rejections but I’m applying again

Hi there. Yeah as the topic goes, I applied as a 2014ers last year but, got rejected by most of the schools.

Here’s a list of the school that I applied to:

Brown (interviewed)
Dartmouth (interviewed)
Cornell
U mich ann arbor (waitlisted)
UCB
UC davis
UCLA
Duke

I used to believe that if the school wasn’t even worth going, there’s no point in applying, but no, I was totally wrong, I just want to study in the states and I don’t really mind if the school’s not that prestigious. So there, I’m applying again this year. And I hope I can get some suggestions from you guys to set up my school list.

My school list
U of Virginia
U of Mich ann arbor
Northwestern
U of Wisconsin Madison
U of Texas Austin
Boston U
UIUC
Chapel Hill
Washington U seattle

I’m wondering if this list is safe enough…does anyone have any other school suggestion?

And there’s something that I’m really worried about. I always know that Brown’s a reach, but I really like this school and even if I had applied once, I’d still like to apply again. Would it make me sounds really obsessive to them?

Lastly, I’m currently a high school graduate and I’m attending Tsinghua Univ. for a year before I go to the US. So how should I be categorized? Homeschooled?

Those who have read so much of my boring lists and ignorant inquiries, thanks a lot. And thank you even more if you’re willing to leave a word here =)

PM’d you. Check Inbox.

all i can say is good luck.

i liked how you put it: “thanks for the rejections but i’m applying again.”

That would make you a transfer student.

There’s not a single safe university on your list. If you would rather attend a university in your home country than a lower-ranked university in the US, this list is fine. However, as an out-of-state applicant, you should not count on being admitted to the state flagship universities.

If you really want to study in the US, here is what I’d do. Go register for classes at a community college in the U.S. And try keep a decent GPA for the first 3-4 semesters. After 4 semesters at college, most of the universitites do not care about hs transcript, toefl or sat scores. you will also save a lot of money.

By the NVCC, Virginia is a low cost; great school and it has guranteed transfer admission to UVA.

Just re - apply you have good scores so why go to a community college? Maybe revise your essays etc or interview skills.

Please be aware that going to another university, whether it is in Taiwan or the US, makes it MORE difficult to gain entry into a US undergraduate institution. Transfer students are accepted at a much lower rate, and often financial aid is not available to them.

I recommend that you choose one of two paths:

Do something else for a year – something extremely interesting and ambitious that will prompt admissions officers to look more closely at your application.

OR

Get your undergraduate education in Taiwan. Do really well, with top grades and research, and then apply to US graduate schools.

Good luck!
