What misc things on CC are you are thankful for? (you dont have to name names…too hard to remember sometimes)

There was a thread like this not too long ago (can’t find it right now). Wonderful how this community helps each other in so many ways.

Helped me get through the anxiety in wondering if my daughter would get admitted to her dream school; celebrated with me when she did!

-generously shared beautiful insights and celebrations of this earthly life while facing the likely end of theirs (Sunriseast)

-helped support each other as we faced the uncertainties of the Match process

-talked me off the ledge as my Aspie son had a very shaky first year in college (HS Class of '09 thread)

Confession time… I ran across my first pill that this was really difficult with. Unfortunately, I’m on day 5 in the hospital after developing sepsis from an abscess that formed after my surgery - yea, it sucks. Anyway, in all the hordes of blood they’ve been drawing, I evidently came up short in potassium. So they wanted to give me a mega dose in two large pills. I should have heeded my own wisdom that says many times it’s easier to swallow a whole pill that has two rounded ends, than to swallow two halves that have rough, sharp-cornered ends. I opted for the cut in half and really struggled to get the first one down, but was bound and determined to try again. After the second one, I caved and asked the nurse to crush it up in applesauce! That’s how she brought it to me the second day. She told me a lot of people have a hard time getting that pill down. Haven’t heard yet whether or not I’ll have to have it today. Now if the tablet had been gel-coated, I could have gotten it down easily, but it was a tablet.

^^^^ Get well soon! So sorry to hear about the complications.

missy, how is ds doing? PM me, if you want.

I joined CC 7 years ago. Although I rarely post, I am on almost daily. I especially want to thank the people on the Music Major forum for all of the advise and information. We were completely clueless on the whole college audition process and what to expect. I learned what a music resume required, how to find the right teacher and studio, and not to obsess over brand name schools and to find the right fit. I also found out that I needed to host a reception after major recitals - got great tips on food, etc, got information on instrument insurance, how to fly with instruments, etc, etc. I also want to thank all of the people who would jump in and defend the choice to become a humanities major. With all of the negative press and much STEM bias - even here on CC, it was helpful to have people put things in perspective when we were having our own doubts about the money being spent and if it would be worth it. Fast forward to today - with a fantastic 6 years at school and an undergraduate performance/education degree plus a fully funded Masters in performance - my son is packing up to move to a new city for a full time music teacher position. It’s not a Wall Street salary - but he’s doing what he loves and he got to pursue his passion in college. So thanks CC for all of the encouragement over the years.

Thanks to those who have given me advice on what wear to my daughters graduation and other daughter wedding party.
A big thank you to everyone who has given me ideas on what to cook, what to eat, what to read, what to see & where to go.
Last but not least, my deepest appreciation goes to the many friends who have responded to my threads and by message, when I needed moral support.
You really have made a positive difference to me & helped me through some tough times.
:x

I diagnosed my daughters PCOS by reading a thread in the cafe. This was something her Dr was totally unable to do.

This got us headed in the right direction to help her begin to manage her health and see all the right specialists.

Nice thread, btw, m2ck

I had something blow in a DLP TV. I posted on CC and not only got the answer in a few minutes, but I was given the link to order the ez-to-replace part.

Those who have encouraged me during my first post-grad job search…hopefully almost done!
Who supported me when I lost my precious dog last week.
Who have followed my journey since senior year of high school and are genuinely invested in me, tell me I’m going to do well, answer all my questions with wonderful insight, etc.

I joined CC after our DD’s college search; after she was already admitted & attending, but for me CC is like a grown-up version of the old book “What to Expect the First Year”. Remember that book (and it’s precursor “What to Expect When You’re Expecting”)? When you think your child is behind the curve or different, only to discover you are there with everybody else. For me, CC is the equivalent of “What to Expect the First Year of College” (& beyond). Two more kids still to go to college in the years ahead so I expect I’ll be lurking around here for some time.

I love how so many on CC are so helpful. I can’t think of a specific example at this minute (prob will around 1am when I am lying in bed still awake) but I often come here needing advice and finding exactly what I need thanks so a gracious poster who takes the time to answer.
Thank you !!

When my son was accepted and decided to attend Bates, two wonderfully kind parents reached out to me and have been there since then for questions and help and friendship. You know who you are! I’m very appreciative.

Yes - thank you thank you thank you - all of you. My go-to place for all questions of life. I have learned so much reading everyone’s posts.

Going on ten years on CC now! Started with “National merit cut-off scores” to now “where to eat in New Haven”. So glad for CC, even if I don’t post very much any more.

I enjoy this thread. It gives you a chance to reflect back on those moments that made you very grateful for such a high concentration of genuine and helpful people.

Here are just a few I can think of at this moment. I am sure I’ll post more:

Thank you to the posters who exhibit just a peaceful, content vibe on CC. I don’t know how to explain it, your posts are nothing but reassuring, calming, and memorable.

Thank you to the posters who discuss. I’ve learned so much over the years I’ve been here. I’ve matured greatly and you guys have played a part in that. Thank you.

Thank you to that one poster who says the most unintelligible things. Man, the amusement I get when I read your posts three times and am more confused than I was when I first read them is just great. Thank you.

Thank you to the posters who have a witty sense of humor. Got to love the ones that keep you on your toes and even cause you to think over something real fast. Thank you.

Haha niquii, I think we all know who the poster is that you are referring to as saying unintelligible things!

Thank you to Jshain for the tip about Method Daily Granite Cleaner! And to those who helped me with faucet, sink and appliance purchases. And to the former CC member who was my DD’s first private oboe teacher in college. And to Violadad and Bassdad who for years kept lists of music major acceptances (and thank you to the person who stepped up to continue). And thank you to those of you I have met IRL…you know who you are! What a great group!
