The Amazing Race!

The clue on the billboard was insane! I would have been completely lost for hours too, but if you had lingered in that general area, you probably would have seen other teams figuring it out and then you would’ve have gotten it. laxmom, I noticed that too - they have all their bases covered, ha ha! Looks like the brother-sister pair almost kill each other next week. I was wondering why it took the blond twin sister so long to get the proverb… They were the only ones there, so it seems like you could have focused better. I think they thought they were last though, so it was probably freaking her out. I keep thinking the passport girls are sisters/twins! They look so alike.

That team was so lucky to get the passport back. I had to laugh, though, when in their promo spot, they were talking about how smart they were and five minutes into the first episode, she loses her passport! How does that happen? Why was it in a spot where it could fall out so easily? If they’re that careless, it doesn’t bode well for them.

I love this show and am so glad it’s back. It’s always hard for me to choose favorite teams this early. Can’t wait til next week!

The tale of the passport:

I was happy to see TAR back, but my goodness, what a busy night for television–TAR, The Good Wife, Boardwalk Empire, Breaking Bad. And then there are those evenings when there’s not a single show I can stand to watch…

Wow, so I guess the Twitter story was real! My daughter and son were doubting the whole story…crazy!

It makes me sad to see the “older” couple struggle so much just to get through the first leg. It just confirms for me that I’d never make it past the first leg if I were to do TAR.

At the finish line, I’m not so sure the grandparents were happy that it was a non-elim!

I can’t believe I missed TWO season premieres last night!!! (AR and Good Wife) DVR, here I come.

The way that the NY Times link describes the passport story is different than how they told it on the episode last night! In the article it says that he had given directions to the girls at the gas station, but on the show, he stated that he’d given directions to the snowboarders, not the girls. Sloppy reporting drives me crazy!

Maybe it’s not sloppy reporting. Maybe he gave directions to both but the show only included the snowboarders. The thing I’m wondering about is where Phil is going to LAX to eliminate them. Why would he if it were a nonelimination round? The girls could have gone back to the gas station and, while they would have been late, they wouldn’t have been elminated.

No, he specifically said that he hadn’t given directions to the girls, just to the snowboarders. Even though it was a non-elimination round, if they hadn’t found the passport, they would have been eliminated because they wouldn’t have been able to travel. They were planning for that eventuality.

The girls DID go back to the gas station to look for the passport, but they didn’t find it, so they went on to the airport. Phil would have had to eliminate them because you can’t travel at all without a passport. The NYT article did get it wrong - the Twitter guy gave directions to the snowboarders, not the girls. When he started tweeting about the race, avid fans on Twitter persuaded him to take the passport to LAX. The girls got sooo lucky!

We are huge fans of Amazing Race! It is a family favorite, and the sad part is this is the first season that our DS is not here to enjoy it with us, as he is a freshmen now at college.

It was a busy night for shows for us as well. We don’t watch the network stuff, but are hooked on the Food Network/HGTV competition shows, which are always on Sunday evenings also.

It’s always fun to see who will emerge. Agree that the grandparents looked like they were moving in slo mo and just out for a good time. I couldn’t see any competitive spirit in them at all, so they will probably be gone next week.

Crizello, since my 2 oldest have left home for college we always have a quickie phone call after Amazing Race is on (and often texts during it) to still kind of “watch” it together!

Ok, I cannot stand the ditzy Las Vegas showgirls…already! Nor the grandparents although they at least made me laugh. So far I like the football player and his wife(?).

Love the show.

I’d like to see a season of teams that were first to be eliminated.

Wouldn’t that be fun! Do you remember the season where one team got eliminated before they even left L.A.? How embarrassing and disappointing that must have been.

they couldn’t do that show because Phil would be waiting around for hours in the dark for the teams to show up.

Any favorite or least favorite teams yet?

I’m disappointed they gave a slot to two people (Ethan and Jenna) who have already won a lot of money (a million each) on a reality TV show (Survivor). I’d rather see an average random couple get that slot since these two already had their shot.

I think the older couple, educators no less, were literally clueless on the episode and will likely not last long. This can be an embarrassing show to be on.

I don’t have a favorite yet.

I don’t have a favorite yet. It usually takes a few episodes for me to develop my favorite teams.

A few years ago they did the thing with the Survivor winners. What’s his name, Rob, and his girlfriend were also on Survivor.

I wish they would do the family version again. I liked it, but I guess not many others did.

The family version did not do well critically and ratings-wise, and was hampered by not being able to leave the US (something about children traveling overseas, don’t exactly understand why).

So glad TAR is back. The old folks will be toast soon if they don’t pick up the pace. I don’t like the two Survivor winners being on the show either. Wonder if they threw in the story about the guy having had Hodgkins disease to make the audience more sympathetic toward them.
