The annual what do you really want for the holidays?

I’m thinking about what I want on my annual list. It’s always hard because I have a lot of stuff and the stuff I do want is pretty specific. Maybe too specific lol!

But here we go.
I just got a new stove so I’m hoping my H thinks he’s done.
Kendra Scott layered necklace

Or this one

A really nice toaster with a bagel setting

New bath towels, bath sheets

Air pods but pretty sure I won’t get those as H declared them way too expensive for headphones

This sweater in black

This cologne

So what do you really want?

(The truth is that I will ask for these things and get something close but not exact).
I will ask for Jo Malone but get a cologne that doesn’t work for me. Or a necklace that breaks me out in hives. Or a $20 toaster that doesn’t have a bagel setting. Not that these things are bad but I have a toaster, and plenty of necklaces that break me out in hives and cologne that I don’t wear.

It’s not the end of the world but it’s why I’ve tried to cut down on the gift giving. I sound and probably rightly am, a terrible gift getter.

Have you sent links of exactly what you want to your loved ones? Makes no sense to get things you don’t want. I’m all for being practical with gift giving.

I have to be super specific if I want something particular.

Honestly though, I don’t want/need anything for the holidays. Just excited to have D home for the break and getting to bake cookies and spend time together.

Here’s an incentive to tell your gift givers to get exactly what you want - it’s better for the environment/less wasteful!

I’m a terrible gift-getter too. Really just prefer to buy my own things!

But if I was forced to make a list of splurges it would include:
Apple watch
Ipad
New TV for the living room - and someone to set it up so all I have to do is turn it on.
Permission to re-do the master bedroom after the new year.

I would never request clothing. I’m too choosy. I prefer to shop for personal stuff like that AFTER the holidays!

I’m a much better giver than getter.

Same thing I wanted last year, but I won’t get it.

A dumpster in the driveway for a week, and permission to put anything in it.

^^^ So we want “experiences” . I appreciate that!!

I suppose gift cards or cash or whatever are the way to go, if specific gifts aren’t given?

Our family started doing secret santa exchange last year so one gift covers most of us (kids and I do books/cozy sweater/pjs) . Extended family are also doing a vacation together right after Christmas so that’s really our gift to each other.

I’d like that too, but I would need 10, and then it would probably come with a divorce.

I would love airline gift cards or gas station gift cards. Maybe a bag of my favorite expensive coffee and a new pillow. I don’t really get gifts though, and that’s ok too.

I got the Apple Watch last year. Probably my most used and best gifts ever. My iPad is pretty new also. Our gift exchange isn’t that much though.

I have sent specific requests, they don’t always translate. Certain people in the older generation don’t do internet.

This is an instance. My mil called my D and asked her the name of the jewelry I like (Kendra Scott). D told her and told her where to buy. I got a necklace from amazon which is a Kendra Scott look alike. Which wasn’t cheap and breaks me out in hives. She tried but now I have something that I can’t wear and am going to have to get rid of.

I agree that it’s hard to have more personal items. But the gift exchange is $75 and the best I could do to get all of this gift gifting down to a minimum.

And yes, I would want nothing more than everyone together. D is not coming, she opted to come for thanksgiving instead. And go to Jamaica with her boyfriend instead.

I don’t want any stuff! I have plenty of stuff.

Experiences would be preferred. I’m still lobbying for that trip to Hawaii. It’s been the only thing on my letter to Santa for at least five years!

“Grandma, I’d be happy to help you shop for my mom.” Online. Credit Card. Done.

I want Santa to bring me four bookcases for my attic.

Nice noise canceling headphones, subscription to Acorn or Britbox, boots. Although I have to buy boots myself. I also like GC to places I like coffee since I really think Starbucks etc is an expensive luxury and therefore like to spend gift money instead of my own.

Ahh - this is a family gift exchange. I thought it was a list for your H @deb922 so the sky is the limit.

Outside of our kids and my 2 nephews who are still teenagers we only have to do one gift purchase for one person for our family Secret Santa. SO thankful.

My mom just gives us (her kids, grandkids, spouses) cash. We have encouraged her that it’s ok not to do that for us middle aged adults anymore - but she insists and I think she likes to. I have to admit, I’d be real sad if I wasn’t giving gifts to my kids even if I was limited in ability.

@abasket I completely get it about mom gifting us adults! Mine is on a limited income, and our kids have six-digit household incomes, and she still gives them a $20 bill in their birthday and holiday cards. Of course they don’t need it, but they also find it really heartwarming and are grateful to her.

Our gift exchange uses https://www.drawnames.com/ which allows people in the exchange to create a very specific wishlist. With links.

What I would like would be to not have to make that holiday road trip. I’d like to be flush with cash, and take the autotrain with sleeping accommodations. Or just a sleeper, and rent a car on arrival.

@abasket, just got a pretty fancy stove which I’ve been wanting for literally years so I am hoping that my husband considers that his Christmas gift to me.

A stove isn’t that personal but I like to cook. I’m very happy with it.

I know it seems awful not to buy presents for all of these people. But most of us can’t even come up with one idea so I think we are pretty lucky.

I don’t want to seem ungrateful. I was wondering what others really want. I like @happymomof1 idea. To not have to make that Holiday road trip. Or @VeryHappy trip to Hawaii.

Sometimes the internet can’t portray what I was thinking. I was looking for a lighthearted and specific things are are hard for others to buy me.
